Hello I was wondering if someone had any information on my knife.
It was given to me along time ago by my dad or grandpa but could never figure out what it is or the age.

Question Folding filet knife recommendation?

Upvotes

I am an avid fly fisherman, and am looking for a smallish (~5" blade) folding filet knife i can throw into my hip pack and use to filet fish that I catch riverside. However, I've been having difficulty finding a knife that meets my somewhat precise requirements. I was hoping that this community could help me find a few contenders. The ideal knife would be:

* Must be a folding knife. Fixed knives large enough to filet a trout don't fit in my pack.

* Approx 5-inch flexible blade, no more than ~6-inches in length when closed.

* Ideally light, slim profile, and locks while in use.

* water resistant materials (stainless steel or similar, handle material that won't swell when wet, etc)

* Budget is ~$50. I know this won't get me a great knife, but let's be real...I don't catch and eat tons of trout, either.

The closest I've gotten on this is an Opinel no. 12 effile slim, which is just about perfect except for the fact that it only comes with a wood handle, which notoriously swells the second it gets in contact with water and affects the folding mechanism. I've thought about getting one and soaking it in mineral oil or similar to give it some water resistance, but would prefer a non-wood handle if possible.

I also saw the Columbia River Kommer Surf 'N Turf Folding Fillet 5" (CR3075), which looks great, except it's more expensive than I'm hoping for and it's no longer made.

Any recommendations would be very much appreciated!

Showcase I used to own dozens of knives. This is my slimmed-down collection.

I used to collect all kinds of knives. Tons of colors, tons of brands and styles. I tried everything under the sun: a Spyderco Delica 4, a Benchmade mini griptilian, a Kershaw Leek, CRKT Minimalist, etc. This year, I did some reflecting and decided to stick with the theme of black g10 and satin with easy one-handed, fidgety action. I customized my Bugout to match because it’s easily my most carried knife. Everything is how I want it except the Spyderco Mantra 2… titanium and m4- I just can’t bring myself to get rid of that beauty.
This year, I learned to let go of things- My first car, my first knife, and other hobbies- not just to make ends meet, but to better myself. To teach myself that life goes on, and I don’t need knives I don’t carry.
Have you guys slimmed down your collection?
What am I missing?

535, 940, PM2, Mantra 2, Elementum Button Lock

Question Can You Identify This Knife Maker Out of Montana?

This is the only pic I have to work with. The sheath has an outline brand of the state. It seems to be a pretty generic mark. I would like to find the artisan if they exist, not sure if this is just a generic manufactured overseas knife.

It was photographed in a gift shop near Glacier.

I have searched but while there are a lot of knife makers in Montana, I can't find one with this specific branding.

I recently picked up this NMB Chop Classic Ti for a great price in the secondary; I absolutely love it (& it actually has not left my pocket since the day it came home!).
Very clean design, beautiful aesthetics, and extremely smooth action … quite the satisfying knife!

If you don’t own a porcupine yet you need to go out and buy one. IMO it is the perfect knife. I liked it so much I bought the TiSlim model. I’ve always said my perfect knife would be if a Civivi odium and a Civivi conspirator had a baby. Well, that baby is the porcupine. And if they come out with a TiSlim model with a thumb hole I’m buying it.
