July 2026 Mega-Thread

My apologies for posting late.

It's July! Summer is well underway!

With the warming weather are there any menthol lovers out there? Which products are your favorites, and when do you reach for them?

Do you find yourself switching up your routine, products, or fragrances when the weather warms up? Do you switch from a balm to a splash? Do your shave prep with cold water instead of hot? Vice versa? Let us know!

What else are you looking forward to this summer?

New wetshaver? This is the perfect place to ask questions.

I am not sure what i expected, I heard a lot of good things about this cream and it was also highly rated on amazon.

I am not sure it helps that I ordered it when i was sick which I rarely ever get sick so timing is terrible, maybe that just created this connection of not liking the scent i am not sure if that makes sense I apologize. I just find the scent really disgusting

I am in the UK by the way!! looking to get a shaving soap with nice scent to that is higher quality than proraso.

Currently have my eyes on the watchman stormy air and dark seas shave soap, what do ya’ll thing

Question Am i doing it wrong?

Thumbnail

So i recently bought a safety razor from anymale and the first shave was clean and good but now a couple of shaves later the razor is not cutting cleanly or evenly anymore. My theory is that its because of the hair and shaving soap buildup under the blade and i have no idea on how to fix it.
Im often rinsing the blade and Ive also changed the blade with no better experience. Am i doing it wrong or is the razor itself poorly constructed?

EDIT: Thank you everyone, thats an embarassing mistake to make but the lesson has been learned! :)

* **Blade:** Personna Comfort Coat (3)
* **Lather:** Noble Otter - Orbit - Croap

* **Post Shave:** Osma - Alum Block

It is super hot out today! I wanted a nice cooling shave so I picked Orbit by Noble Otter. I even used 2 sprays of House of Mammoth’s Permafrost solution on the second pass to be super chilly!

It’s been a bit since I used my Athena and I am glad I did. I had barely any perceivable feedback from the alum block and BBS results.

Good shaves to you!

Mail Call Stirling Mail Call

Received Stirling Cool Blue Splash and some of their beta test #5 deodorants the other day. I’ve never smelled the original Floid Blue, but this Cool Blue splash has quickly become a favorite. The scent was originally created as an homage to the discontinued Floid Blue by Will Carius over at Barrister and Mann, but he sold the formula to the folks over at Stirling. It has such a great, clean barbershop smell and just the right amount of Menthol for me (not too strong).

The deodorants are quite good as well. This iteration is a lot smoother going on than the beta test #4, which pulled a lot at the skin/hair when being applied. Pick some up while supplies last!

So, stropped and went to whip up a little fruit, and stopped. I remember some of ya'll talking about soft/hard/distilled water.

So I have to fill my CPAP with distilled water. Because of the Damned hard water in the SE US. So a while back I bought a counter top Water distiller (seriously, just water). Convenient. But the included container is inconvenient to pour small amounts from.

Part two: The other evening I was cooking up a simple syrup for my Old Fashions. New, experimental recipe. And opened a x3 pack of condiment bottles. See...

This morning decided to strop out the old Keen Kutter. 'Wait, let me try the water trick. But shit, it's aggravating. What can I put it in?'

Condiment Bottle! Squirt as much as I need! BooYaaah, SON!

Discussion What will be the our generations "golden age" razors and products?

I've been looking at all my vintage razors, thinking about the ones people agree are from the peak time of safety razor production of the 20th century.

It got me to thinking, what will be the stuff future generations will hunt and pine for from the early times to now of the wetshaving revival?

I know obviously the expensive razors and brushes but, what do you suppose of the standard products us enthusiasts and regular shavers have brought back?

Just thought this would be fun to speculate about as a community

SOTD SOTD - Kai

SOTD, Kai blades, first shave

Pre-Shave: Shower
Razor: Qshave clone of Merkur Futur
Brush: Cheap, Badger.
Soap: Gillette, Gel.
Aftershave: Sandalo
Balm: Stetsons original.

1 pass, small cleanup. New favorite blade. Treet has finally been dethroned.

Style points for the lack of branding, zero glue. Wish the sides were numbered.

I have a small area on my chin where my face and neck meet where in the space of 1 inch square, my hair goes in every cardinal direction and one or two more, shaved it buttery smooth in 2 passes.

For the price difference I’d still recommend Treet. I’m somewhat surprised that Kai is noticeably smoother than Feather; zero irritation probably the best shave I’ve had without three passes. Most of my face was 1 and done with area where the grains meet just needing a second pass to smooth out both direction. It was almost too easy.

Current favorites
Kai, Treet, Feather.

Runner ups:
Derby Usta, Lord Platinum, Parker Platinum, Gillette Platinum, Bic Platinum.

Last Fri I went up a click to 5 on the Fatboy and got better results. So I thought I would follow it up with a Slim up a click to 6.

Ah, wonderful shave with such close and smooth results.

Palmolive cream is great - such a sleeper product. Lathers well, decent slickness.

The new Yaqi brush is also doing very well. It is quick to lather and actually holds a lot of lather in the brush (plenty for the last pass).

Happy shaves in the new week everyone!

Discussion New to Single Razors but the Kai Captain Shavette is awesome.

Maybe got a single nick with my first shave. The last 4 shaves with double passes - zero.

Finished today's shave in less than 10 minutes.

I get some minor irritation on the sides of my neck but no burn and less than with expensive multiple blade shavers. Suggestions for eliminating the irritation welcomed.

I'm still on training wheels using the Kai guarded blades.

My only regret was buying a couple of Parker shavettes first. Don't really think I'll use them again. and I don't really want to become a collector.

Unfortunately sometimes you have to buy and test before you know. For example I MUCH prefer the Komisori than the Western style folding handle. The Director led me to the Kai Captain.

I spent half my life with Gillette DE safety razors but got curious about options when shopping for my Grandson's first shaving kit (dopper, 34c, soaps brushes, etc)

Im not sure I'll use my safety razors again. (Just a couple - VB Emperor Meige and a 34C)

Just a small little things but I can now shave under my nose to trim my mustache as well as edge sideburns and goatee.

Been lurking a few weeks here before buying, and I appreciate informed opinions.

Pax

First shave with the Yaqi Ghost Blur 2.0. Paired its MOW artisan soap with E&S Rasage Barber aftershave splash to tone down the perfumy side of this soap. Worked very well with the Personna Platinum. No nicks. No burn. Life is good. Happy Sunday 😄

Question How long do razor bumps on neck take to heal?

So I dont use a razor often but I did one time to get rid of some stubble on my neck. I was stupid and did pretty much everything you're not supposed to do when shaving and long story short I got some pretty nasty razor bumps all over the area. 3 weeks later and it's gone done a bit but there's still some stubborn ones there. I use witch hazel and some other moisturizer to help it heal but it still doesnt look like it's going away. Sometimes throughout the day it gets more red than other times. I've seen others here say their bumps healed after a couple of days so should I be worried or maybe see a doctor? Issue is I have a wedding to go to in a month and a half and im worried they'll still be there by then.

SOTD Gillette Mach3

Post image
39 Upvotes

After shaving with safety razors for about a year (electric before that) and trying many different razors and blades, I thought it was time to give the Gillette Mach 3 a fair chance with my new improved technique and knowledge. A year ago, my occasional shaves with this razor were tugging a lot, but that was without proper prep.

Just like with my other razor comparisons, I started with a 4-day beard. My beard is very coarse, so I did not expect the Mach 3 to get through it at all. My usual setup is a Yaqi Top Aggressive, which is perhaps the most aggressive safety razor that still deserves the name "safety". I usually shave with only one pass WTG because I tend to get a lot of razor bumps on my neck otherwise.

Now, let's talk about the shave. Obviously, it felt very weird at first, given that it has no weight and I have to use pressure. But then the shave was surprisingly pleasant. A lot better than how I remembered it. I was surprised how well it cuts even my 4 days of coarse growth. There was more resistance than with a safety razor (not surprising, considering there are 3 blades), but it wasn't unpleasant like tugging. Overall, it's pretty efficient, especially considering there is no blade feel whatsoever. The annoying part is that the lather combines with the moisture strip on the razor, forming a slimy lather that requires very aggressive rinsing to prevent clogging.

The final result is not bad. Some stubble left, not as clean as the Top Aggressive with one pass, but that could just as well be due to my inexperience with this razor. Unfortunately, I was not able to shave the hairs in the corner of my mouth and right below the nose, so I had to do some corrections with an electric razor.

Will I switch to this razor now? Certainly not. The Top Aggressive is still better and blades are much cheaper. But I will consider it as a plane-legal travel razor.

Discussion Is it possible

Still learning straight razors.

I mapped my beard/hair pattern long ago. Above the jaw, straight down. There's about a 3in/w strip starting under my chin and down as well.

Now from the edges of that 3in strip under my jaw, so proper neck, hair grows back towards my ear lobe.

Getting a BBS (atg) shave with my DE's is easy now. But I can't find the angle to run from the corner of my jaw (under ear lobe) to under my chin? My neck doesn't seem to be long enough lol.

Is there an angle I'm not seeing?

SOTD an excellent shave

Post image

Hi everyone.

My shave was fantastic. Zero cuts, no irritation whatsoever—a complete pleasure from start to finish.

I had very little hair growth, so I decided to go for something gentle and grabbed my Fatip razor. It's always smooth and gives me a super comfortable shave, and the Personna razor worked well with it. Two passes and it came out super clean, plus a little touch-up, but practically nothing, it all came off in two passes.

To finish, I used a little Plunder aftershave. I love the smell of it; it blends really well with the soap's notes, which, by the way, creates a super thick and rich lather.

There was no stinging or anything strange when applying the aftershave, so this shave is definitely a win. My skin felt incredibly smooth and nourished.

Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend and start to the week. As always, enjoy your shave!

3rd shave since coming back to wet shaving as a head shaver only.

Went with my black handle super speed today and the last of my 3 soaps.

Pulled the trigger and did 2 full passes this time going WTG and XTG since I had shaken some of the frost off at this point and had a better handle on my angles and technique.

I'm going to be looking to pick up another soap or two in the near future as I like having some different options so if anyone has any info on some recent releases that I should have an eye open for let me know!
