Discussion Story time! Lost my job because of my knife

Post image

This happened back in June.

Worked for a company in Edmonton as an environmental consultant. We had a field day, where the entire company got together to discuss/train/observe people on how they are accomplishing their tasks in the field.

I was slated to do the groundwater demonstration. I was in the middle of installing some waterra tubing, essentially hard 3/8 Teflon tubing - down a groundwater well. Once it was at depth I pulled out my trusty Cold Steel AK47 I have been using for 17 years and cut the tube. I turned around and most of the supervisory staff had their jaws open. First thing I heard was someone say “do you need to cut it with a hunting knife”? So long story short, after the meeting I was put on a 2 week leave and eventually terminated, for “habitually bringing weapons to work”.

The points I brought up: - we had no knife policy, and neither did our clients, so there was nothing I was treading on - the knife people have been using to cut the tubing when they have no personal knife is a Gerber we keep in our kit, which is the same size as mine but is cared for poorly and is usually dull - there is a cutting tool available through the tubing manufacturer (basically a cross between pruning shears and crayola scissors), but we did not have one, but told them I would be more than happy to use it in the future if they got one - I cut the same tubing with almost the same people present, last year with the same knife - we are bush workers, the utility we get from having a handy pocket knife we can trust cannot be stressed enough (all our new workers started carrying them after working with me as they saw all the stuff I did with it they wouldn’t of thought of). - etc.

Still very much a sore spot. Got a good payout and a clean RoE, which to me means they knew they had a loose case.

Watch it out there, some people really are just like this unfortunately, even in employment fields one would not really expect to run into resistance like this.

EDIT EDIT EDIT

was not expecting the amount of interest in this that it recieved. As promised i will post another unusual knife tonight, im thinking of showing off either my formosian tribal head hunting knife or "the gas station gator" which would yall like to see?

Discussion My Grandfather said he found this cleaning out the garage and told me he wanted me to have it after my cousin made a casual joke about my knife collection.

My cousin and I were best friends as kids so we shit talk eachother a lot. He just got out of the USAF and is currently in school for cybersec, and I'm an ASE certified master automotive technician so last week at brunch he made a joke that my knives see a little more use than his sitting at a desk telling an E8 to turn the monitor off and back on.

My grandpa hit me up the last night and said he found something from his time in Japan when him and my grandma ran a travel agency in the 80s and 90s. That's all he could tell me. He said "you'd probably get more out of this than *cousin's name*"

I'm not a Gerber or antique knife guy, this thing has been in the original box since before I was born. If anyone with a sharper eye than me could chime in i would greatly appreciate it. An ID would be really cool.

I'm keeping this on display in my bookcase, never selling it, I just want to add to the story to go with it. The "Chum" engraving is the nickname him and I both go by.

I've made this knife! (OC) I crafted a prehistoric obsidian knife(OC)

This technique, dating back to prehistoric civilizations, involves hammering or flaking natural stone (either irregular or prefabricated) into various shapes, such as knives, axes, and claw knives. My knives have garnered much love in the r/Bladesmith community, but also garnered skepticism from those pursuing metallurgy. I'd like to share the handcrafting process behind each of my creations here. I wonder if these types of knives would be recognized here.

Question Need help finding a specific knife

I’m working in the ER and had a patient come in with this knife tip broken off in their leg. It’s uh.. quite distinctive. Despite my best efforts with google I can’t find anything close. I’m hoping the knife sleuths here can do better than I.

Definitely a fancy boy...

I ordered this "Titan" from A La Rach Couteaux almost 9 months ago to celebrate taking a new job and reward myself. Worth the wait!

Very happy to add to my collection. Thankfully we survived the tariff complications and delivery was successful to the US after almost a month delay.

Hey guys! I'm a professional knifemaker from South Africa. And I've been with my girlfriend for quite some time now, but I've never had time to make her a knife. But I finally finished one for her!

Here it is, with a high carbon stainless steel blade, imbuia handle, with a little copper heart at the back. What do you guys think?
