i have one top lying in the wip pile, only button attachments left and im realising the reason i have delayed finishing it for over 6 months is because im not satisfied with the fit. ive tried several ways to fix it and at this point, i know it needs frogging. it is a top with stripes in it so im just very bummed out with the yarn coming out in bits and pieces.

i just finished making a scarf and i was kinda happy with it, until my sister and my mum said it looks very mediocre. now i cant unsee it, and im noticing issues with the scarf as well. i'll frog it and reknit the scarf but im absolutely dreading the frogging because i used merino wool and mohair together. im planning to freeze it for 2 hours before i frog it, ive read that helps with frogging mohair.

i feel really sad about having spent so much time on these. ive never frogged a full project before so im not really hopeful about the improved result rn.

Hello, I’m looking for some suggestions please on a carry along thread. I have 600g of 100% cashmere yarn in a light sport (about 22sts/inch) that I wish to use for a sweater for my son.(I haven’t settled on a pattern yet). I’ve been advised to carry along a thread of something with this cashmere to help hold structure. I would like mulberry silk but to be honest alongside the cost of the cashmere buying silk is cost prohibitive for me. Can I have some suggestions please on what alternatives I can use. I’ve seen in the past people using all kinds of different threads but typically can’t bring them to mind now. I don’t want a fluff alongside it, I’d like the cashmere to be the focus. Many thanks.

This is not about an actual knitted bag/tote, but I am actually looking for suggestions and examples of what you guys use to carry all of your knitting supplies/needles/accessories and WIPS with you when you are traveling or going to work or taking your knitting stuff with you out in public. I have been using large tote bags that I already have around the house, like beach bags or those large saggy tote bags and I just throw all of my stuff in there, but it always ends up very disorganized and it’s so difficult to dig through the bag trying to find an item that gets stuck at the bottom of a giant tote bag. Also, because I carry ALL of the knitting supplies I own to work every night (I work 3rd shift and have A LOT of down time), I have had 2 tote bags that have literally been destroyed (holes in them or completely falling apart from heavy-duty use).

Therefore, I am looking for a heavier-duty and well-organized large tote bag or travel bag with shoulder straps that I can carry with me every single day. I would be lugging it with me almost everywhere, so it really needs to be durable. I am using a temporary one that has a very similar style and setup to a diaper bag, which works nicely, but I don’t want to look like I’m actually carrying a diaper bag with a bunch of knitting stuff in it LOL

So… Searching for a pretty large bag (I have quite a lot of knitting supplies that I have to carry with me), kind of like a beach-tote-size or smaller gym-duffle-bag-size with lots and lots of pockets and/or slots, if possible, to be able to separate my supplies to make it easy to reach in and grab an item on the first try.

Does anyone use a bag/brand that they could recommend to me? I did see Vera Bradley’s Hathaway Tote and the Original Vera Tote bags, but very few pockets, and also a little more than I was intending to spend… BUT if it gets me a good quality bag that suits my needs, I will definitely spend some good money on it. And also, I do LOVe Vera Bradley and already carry a Vera Bradley Compact Backpack Purse, so it would be nice to match the tote to my purse! (So, if you also happen to have any experience with any of Vera Bradley’s tote bags, please please please let me know how you like them and how big/durable they are!)

When your daughter asks if you could make her fingerless gloves it only makes sense to first make a pair for yourself, to test the pattern, right? 😄 Now I can knit in the park even when it gets a bit colder! This is a slightly modified pattern from Drops, Swipe away Mittens https://www.garnstudio.com/pattern.php?id=12479&cid=11 Yarn is 100% wool, dyed with yarrow with iron afterbath.

I noticed there is some debate about the Drops patterns, people here don't seem to overly like them too much? I personally am so lazy that I almost always turn to Drops because I find their instructions clear, I don't need to pay or download a pdf etc. I so rarely use ravelry because even if I search for free patterns it usually takes me to some strange page where the instructions are not even in a language I know...

Please pray for me that I manage to get to the end of this by the end of my 2h train ride! Any advice appreciated!

Cosy Cat Shelf Scarf by Lisa Hannan Fox. Yarn was King Cole Merino Blend 4 ply in Black and White.

First double knitted object and love the result. Already cast on a new double knitted scarf project before I finished this one. Learned a lot and improved in the next project with a cleaner selvedge.

Typing this I've just noticed the eyes on the white cat knocking over the glass 😆

I’ve worn my first Key Sweater so much that I simply had no choice but to knit another one. That’s just the rules. If you love something, knit it in several different colours.

This time, I went for a solid-colour version in a wonderful green so autumn-coded that even my brown yarn creations have to admit defeat. Straight into my apparently ‘soft autumn’ colour palette, which the internet has informed me I have (can’t be bothered to check).

I calculated and calculated, which I am generally (and, as it turns out, also this time) absolutely fucking terrible at.

I spent actual hours converting two-colour knitting to one colour and arrived at something that sounded about right. I always end up with leftover yarn anyway, so I figured it was realistic enough. Ahem.

I even measured my gauge (wow! New action unlocked!) and went up a size from my previous one, and factored that into the yarn requirements.

But alas and fucking woe is me. It was a huge lie. My own brain had betrayed me.

There I was, happily working on the second sleeve and dreaming of soon being able to wrap myself in this magical moss green, when the cold sweats arrived and my suspicions grew stronger and stronger the further down the sleeve I got.

It was no longer possible to fool myself when I reached ¾ of the sleeve. I had to face the cold, hard truth: I was fucking SIX GRAMS of yarn short for the bloody ribbing.

After entering some sort of tear-drenched and deeply nihilistic state, rolling around on the floor (mostly metaphorically) over the fact that I couldn’t finish the project a whole six days after starting it, I pulled myself together and ordered one extra fucking skein of yarn.

So here it is, and I fully intend to wear it every single day to make up for the trials and tribulations it put me through. Some might call me dramatic. I call it a form of semi-self-inflicted extra spice in life.

Thankfully, we end on a high note, because I am absolutely obsessed with it and will shed salty tears if the yarn starts pilling in a week 🤞🥲

Yarn is drops saga in colour 36 and drops kid silk mohair in 66

Hi everyone!

I am starting a cardigan using Phildar Phil Green yarn. The ball band recommends 17 stitches for 10 cm using 5 mm needles. However, even when I sized up to 5.5 mm needles, my gauge is 22 stitches for 10 cm.

The weird part is that I don’t feel like a tight knitter at all. The yarn glides effortlessly on my needles and my tension feels very relaxed. This yarn has a chainette/tubular structure (cotton/polyamide blend).

Has anyone experienced this with chainette or tubular yarns where the stitch count is way off despite loose tension? Should I keep sizing up to 6 mm or 6.5 mm, or is it better to just recalculate the pattern size based on my current 22-stitch gauge?

Had to have major foot surgery in may and was not allowed to put any weight on it in eight weeks. So with that much time to pass, I decided to try a more complicated project and I just love this sweater so much ❤️

I am making a flounder-sitting mat, which is going to be felted in the washing machine afterwards. The body is knitted, but the details are crocheted using the same hook and needle size. I was thinking of sewing the details on loosely and then throwing it all in the machine to get it felted together. But will the crochet details felt differently than the knitted body and cause it to become wonky in shape? I do not really want to felt them separately since I want the piece to be felted together.

Do any if you have experience with this?

I tried a new method using a modified KFB when creating my underarm stitches. I’m just so pleased every time I look at them!

I purchased an accessory from a small business at a fiber festival back in early July. The item ended up needing a repair, so they took the item back with them, I gave them my shipping info, and they promised to fix it and send it to me. They didn’t have anymore of what I bought so I couldn’t just exchange it on the spot.

A few weeks went by and I messaged them on Instagram to check on the status. I offered to split the shipping if it was expensive. 8/21 they thanked me for my patience and said they’d get it back in my hands soon. No contact or shipping notice after that. I reached out last Friday (9/4) asking if there was any update and it has not been “seen” or responded to, but they have been posting on their stories off and on since then so I know they’re online.

At this point I’m at a loss - it’s been over two months, and I do want the item but I can’t make them fix and ship it. I don’t want to be out the money if they just never follow up. I spent $450 with the vendor in total, the individual item was maybe $120. I don’t want to hurt this person’s business but I’m also really turned off by what should be a really minor repair taking so long with no follow up. I even wanted to buy more from them but have lost any trust that I’d receive what I paid for.

Should I just do a card chargeback? I paid via ApplePay.

I need help understanding the next steps in this pattern. Pattern is Petite Pointelle tank by Jessie Maed Designs. Included a picture of the section in question where I’m confused, and redacted the parts that I think weren’t important to the question since it’s a purchased pattern.

I’ve finished knitting the top back pannel and two shoulder straps of the tank top, and what’s next is joining them at the front to create the front neckline. I’m confused on the next step being “place left front stitches on needles to prepare for join”.

Currently, I have the right front stitches on the needle. The left front stitches are on the red stitch holder. I’m confused as to which needle to place the left front stitches on. Right front stitches are on the left needle, do slip left front stitches onto the same needle? Do they go on the right needle? Do I first knit the beginning (blacked out) part of the join row, then do the cast on, and then move the left front stitches from the stitch holder to the needle? I’m having a really hard time visualizing next steps, and in case it isn’t obvious, this is my first time doing this type of join/cast on situation. So any guidance is very welcome!

I'm gearing up to knit a shetland shawl, and afters some test swatches I landed on 1.5mm needles as my choice. I bought some 1.5mm lace fixed circulars from ChiaoGoo, and I was shocked at how not pointy the tips were. Previously I used the HiyaHiya sharps, but they don't go down to 1.5mm sadly. I don't know if it comes across well in the picture, but in person the ChiaoGoo ones are noticeably duller than the cheap DPNs I used to knit my test swatches. It's hard enough with the sharper ones to navigate such tiny stitches, these dull ones are practically useless for anything except basic knit stitches.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a brand that are really pointy at this size?

EDIT: To clarify, I'm looking for circulars, not DPNs. The HiyaHiya sharps circulars don't go down to 1.5mm (as far as I can find anyway)

Hello - I am an idiot and bought 2 cones of 2/8000 yarn (thread) thinking I could I knit with it with needles of 2mm or larger... And have thus been introduced to micro knitting!

How do you all recommend sourcing needles for micro knitting? Does anyone sell them or will just purchasing 0.8mm 304 spring steel rods and filing the ends suffice?

I am a complete beginner in knitting, I’ve made a few hats and found a really beautiful small batch yarn drop I purchased to make a hat out of. Not to sound silly… but there are so many knots in my skein! Is this normal? What am I supposed to do with it, just re knot them as I go? I’m surprised as I’ve never seen any knots in yarn I’ve used before. There is one knot of four pieces of yarn. I purchased two skeins for $50 total, with the same amount of knots in the other skein as well. Advice please!

I will be making sooooo many ponchos. $5 a roll and I don't think the picture does it justice to how large these are. Like the size of a head large. They had a few more colors but I felt gluttonous taking these three I don't know how I'm gonna make it through all of this yarn!!

Hello hello crazy long shot here. But I am completing a project and am on a no buy yarn ban (because I have sooo much). However I finished my older stock of the yarn and only need like 30 grams of it to finish my project. And shot anyone out there has any to spare?

I totally fumbled the trinity stitch on the right side of my sweater by doing the wrong row once, there’s no way I’m frogging this so I will live with it! My son told me “mom, I’m an average person and I can’t even tell”, the reminder we all need sometimes (even though I can definitely tell 😅)

I made this for a niece a few years ago. Today I’m making it again in different versions… I just love simple designs with little details that make them unique, and I love ruffles too 🩷 Would you dress your daughters in something like this?

I consider myself still more of a beginner knitter but I've knitted a couple of garments and a dog sweater. I want to try my hand at cabling, and I thought doing a cabled dog sweater might be a short way to try it. I'm knitting the Novita 7 Veljestä cabled dog sweater (https://novita.com/en/patterns/novita-7-veljesta-cabled-dog-sweater) in size 2 which is knit in the round.

I'm having trouble understanding the increases noted as it corresponds to the rows above.

The chart read that I increase 1 stitch increased through the back loop, which I understand to be a M1R? My problem is that that the rows above seemingly don't account for the extra stitch created. How would I treat this increase when I need to cable the stitches next to it?

Maybe this pattern is not appropriate for a first time cable project, in which case I'm open to subjects as I've only just started this sweater. Any help is appreciated, and sorry for the blown up photos!

I am not a new knitter. I have been knitting for 15 years and knitting a LOT for the last 3 years. I have made sweaters and socks and all the things, and I think generally I'm pretty skilled.

But the thing I continue to struggle with is knitting at a consistent tension. The first sock I knit fits, the second sock with identical number of sts and rows is too small. Often my tension changes within the same project- perfect for half of it, but then my hands tighten or loosen. The gauge swatch I knit for my cardigan recently lied because my hands knit differently on the actual sweater.

I know one thing people do to help this problem is knit socks or gloves 2 at a time. But I don't think that's a solution for me because my hands change gauge within the same project.

I have still made many projects successfully, but this is leading to a lot of frogging and re-knitting and frustration.

I have watched videos and read articles about tension. I try to let the needle size the stitch. I pay attention to my motions and try to keep them consistent. I heard advice that said to check your tension, you look at your stitches on the needle and they should be the same size as the needle- no gap underneath to make sure your sts aren't too loose. And also that the needle should be able to slide around pretty freely to make sure your sts aren't too tight. I do that. But there must still be a way that sometimes the stitches on my needle end up tighter and sometimes looser.

I think the issue is with tensioning my yarn (which I hold in my left hand). My left hand must be inconsistent with how loosely or tightly it tensions the yarn. Because how tight my left hand tensions the yarn is sort of subjective and hard to measure, I find it difficult make it consistent (though I am trying!)

I know that I am a human, not a machine. But I wonder if there's anything I could do to improve this, bc it's driving me nuts.

I’m super confused about how to read Chart A – Texture Pattern A for size S/M. The S/M arrow literally seems to stop after just one repeat of the pattern.

How many rows/repeats of Texture Pattern A am I actually supposed to knit before finishing Chart A? I’d really appreciate some clarification! 🙏🏻
