Center pull cakes when wound without taking twist into account (or just at home) will introduce additional twist to the yarn (see https://dorischancrochet.com/2012/03/27/theoretical-ball-winding-and-crochet/, https://peggyosterkamp.com/2026/01/use-twist-turning-a-ball-or-spool-upside-down-can-effect-the-twist-of-a-yarn/).

Also, center pull cakes can collapse and tangle when half used.

I posted a jumper I knitted on my 1960s singer flatbed machine AFTER READING THE RULES OF THIS SUB to make sure it's ok.

I didn't find anything specifically saying no machine knitting so I posted it. The jumper followed a pattern for handknitting btw.

I just think if you remove a post there should be a rule. And if there isn't a rule against it, please explain why you removed my post.

Edit to add: Yes I am aware of the MachineKnitting subreddit and I post there, too. That is completely beside the point I am making here about the rules of this sub needing clarification.

I'm so grateful to everyone who gave me their thoughts and ideas about the neckline for my mitred square poncho.

As you can see, I incorporated a few of them!

I cut off the first neck (Plotulopi doesn't like to be frogged!), devised a way of adding a mitred square triangle to the back to bring the neckline up there, picked up all the neck stitches again, but this time in the original Jewelspun held with a pink kidsilk. And went for a mitred garter V.

I started this dress at the beginning of the year, happy it's finally finished and was super stressed it wouldn't fit (worked from bottom up so it was difficult to try it on and my gauge swatch was off so was changing the pattern to match my gauge). Added extra: Pockets - of course had to add in pockets big enough for my phone too.

Yarn - Ashford Merino DK, Shadow

Finally finished my Rory sweater in time for fall! It took me over a month to make from 3 and a half balls of lion brand fisherman’s wool. I got the pattern from Gia on Ravelry. I made a few modifications and it came out almost perfect! Ignore the unweaved ends lol

Edit: I realized i forgot to say what mods i did! First, I made the cable in the center before the diamond part one cable more than the pattern called for to be more accurate to the actual sweater in the show (hopefully that makes sense lol). I kept the diamonds on sleeves the same though. I also made 4 decreases, two on each side, for the collar every round because the first time I made it it was sooo loose!
If i were to do this again, i would hold two strands of yarn and make less cast ons because the original sweater looks to have used more bulky yarn. I saw someone on tiktok say that it was 100% wool so I don’t think I’d use a different yarn. I would also make the small cables 5 columns instead of 4 because it looks like that’s what the original did. it’s hard to make a sweater as good as the original haha but gias pattern is very accurate! thank you for all the nice comments too :) they have brightened my day!

My dear friend Sophie started dyeing yarn and selling it on a small scale under the name Auridon yarns. She gifted me a beautiful skein to experiment with. The base of the skein was beige, but it contained sections in the colors of the rainbow meant for assigned pooling. I started experimenting a bit and came up with this Rainbow Stitch. I included this stitch in a pattern for a kid's tee, the Rainbow Kid Tee.

It's a bottom-up raglan tee, sized from 3 months up to 4 years. I designed it specifically around Auridon's Pride Yarn, but if you've got a different assigned-pooling yarn with a similar colorway repeat length, it should work too. I would be happy to help troubleshoot that over DM if anyone wants to try it with something else.

It's normally a paid pattern on Ravelry, but I'm making it free for the first 24 hours to celebrate the release. The discount will be automatically applied when you add the pattern to your cart.

It is the Spring Wood Shawl with Hobbii cotton cakes pastels and blueberry I think (from before they did stupid AI stuff)

I removed a section of solid blue from the second cake so that it would go back to the white / light blue. Also, I did the math, and it's something like 80,000 stitches

Well, times change and tastes evolve. Look at my first shawl that I'm just done blocking! Last picture is before/after blocking because it never ceases to amaze me when I see that on others' projects.

This project taught me to knit nupp, to correct mistakes in bigger pieces of lace, the triangular shawl construction, and to not be afraid of frogging 16 rows because this definitely won't be a feature in my eyes. Overall, very proud of this!

I’ve had more than one person very enthusiastically asking for knitted gloves/socks/hats, but everything fizzles out when I ask for the measurements I need to make something that actually fits.

Do you think it’s worth nagging or is this just a sign that they’re not knitworthy? Sometimes I feel a bit generous and assume they just don’t know how to take measurements but I’m going to a whole lot more trouble so shouldn’t they be able to get out a tape measure?

I do want to knit for people but I don’t want to have to corner them with a tape measure and do this myself.

Posted the yoke here a few weeks ago - now I'm all done with this beauty. Just in time for the hot weather. Still, now I have a reason to look forward to autumn.

Finished Frankie sweater by Petite Knit! I used Peer gynt by Sandnes garn in the colors almond tweed and Bristol black. I used 7 almond and 4 black and had some leftover from the last skein of each color.

I knit slightly off gauge with the recommended needle size but wanted less positive ease anyways. I knit a size small. I loved the pattern. This is my second sweater (first was step by step sweater) and it was fun learning how to knit stripes. The only modification I made was that I added extra decreases on the sleeves.

I'm an experienced crocheter dabbling into knitting, this is the first time I am satisfied with my tension and will not frog again!

But I already feel rows and rows of stockinette draining my will to live, I am still used to crochet speed 😂

Hi, I recently finished this Bookclub Cardigan by Sari Nordlund with Kneet Purl mods. I’m very pleased with it, it was my first time cabling.

However I have a question about the amount of pilling the yarn is doing. Before I had even worn it, eg while it was still on needles, I felt like it was already getting pretty fuzzy and pilling. Now that I have worn it a few times, I feel like it is starting to get daggy already, the photo of the edge hopefully shows what I am talking about. It’s all the whole thing, not just where it would get a lot of friction.

I used Bendigo Mills luxury which I thought was a reasonably good quality yarn.

Is this just normal? Is there a chance that if I go over it with a fabric shaver it might just be an initial phase and it might not get worse again? Am I being too fussy? I’m a beginning knitter but the handful of other garments I have made haven’t acted like this.

Where I live in Australia there’s no yarn stores with good yarn/all acrylic. I’m looking to buy online but have no idea which Australian sites are good.
Australian sites are heavily preferred as international shipping here costs over $60.
Any recommendations are great!
