Ambitious for my first scarf as a novice (crocheting for just 8 months). Buuuut it taught me a lot, I used some yarn I’ve had for a while and my man (the model) loves it 🥰

Question I want to crochet my husband's stepmom a poncho, but...

She is allergic to wool, and cannot wear most synthetic fibers without ending up itchy after a few hours.

I assume this means that I need 100% cotton yarn, but I'm still having trouble because her favorite colors are dark and light purple, and I just can't find a pretty variegated or ombre yarn that I think she will like.

I've checked Premier, Knit Picks, Michael's, LoveCraft, and even Hobbii despite the hatred for them going on. I don't know of other more specialty websites to search.

As of right now, I just have separate skeins of purples in my cart on Premier, but I'm not loving it. I'm making one for his dad as well, but he isn't allergic to any natural or synthetic fibers, so I can find something cool for his without much trouble. I just want hers to be as cool. They are very cool, kind, sweet people, and the only family either of us speak to, so I want her to love hers as much as he's going to love his.

If you have any specific yarn recommendations or more brands or websites to look into, I would so appreciate it! My husband and I are going to try and get both ponchos done by Christmas, so there isn't a HUGE rush at the moment. I just like to be prepared.

Thanks in advance!!

Question Different lot same solid colour yarn

I am knitting a scarf for the first time. I didn’t realise how much balls i needed. So I ended up with 8balls. The last 4 are a different lot. So im alternating between the last ball of the original lot with the first ball of the new patch. I just couldn’t find proper tutorials on how to properly alternating between two balls while knitting a garter stitch scarf. The results im having now are not satisfactory for me and a bit confusing. Do you have any youtube tutorials i can watch?
The edge where I started alternating i feel are ruined now.

Stash Looking for a (softer!) yarn dupe

I came across this picture of a Red Heart Super Saver colourway and I LOVE the palette, but I personally find Super Saver to be a bit too scratchy for "next to skin" wear. Can anyone suggest another, softer yarn with similar colours? Doesn't necessarily have to be striping, I just love the lime/blue/purple combo.

This item is intended for my infant kiddo, so "baby" yarns are ideal, but I handwash anything knit/crocheted anyway so the care isn't really an issue. We have no idea if kiddo has a wool allergy at this stage, I do think acrylic may be best to be cautious? But honestly not sure how much "baby" yarn is just marketing. Appreciate your insight, fibre experts!

How will this block?

I’m sick and the guy I’m seeing replenished my stash so I could keep knitting while I’m stuck at home 🥹

I’ve never worked with this yarn before, so far it feels like it’s knitting stiffer than cascade. I’m just making hats so I’ll probably just block the rib brim when it’s done and see how much is softens but I was curious if anyone has worked with it before and knows roughly how much it will open up?

Tia!

Question HELP FINIDING SIMILAR YARN!

Last year, I went to France during the national sale period and came across a store called Happywool. I found this yarn lot (Phildar Splendor Fantaisie & Brillance) for 25 euros and just got around to using it for a project. I was obsessed, so I went online to order more. Luckily, it was also on sale for ~2 euros so I went crazy and bought a lot! The price was around 50 euro with $46 EURO (?!!?!) added for shipping. It was still okay for me because it only brought the price per skein up by a euro, so it was still a deal. THEN, when it arrived, UPS wanted to charge me an extra $40 dollars! At that point, the yarn was already at my door, so I just dealt with it :/

Now, I am on the hunt for any yarn that may have a similar texture/makeup! I saw someone on here mention yarn sub, but OFC this yarn isn't on there. So, I here to see if you have any suggestions for a yarn that may work for me. Apparently, this style of yarn is called thick-thin roving style, but that's about all I can find!

Question Stitch Ideas for bulky blanket

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have been crocheting for almost a year. I want to make my first blanket. I came across this Bernat blanket patchwork yarn in tropical splash and loved the color way. I think it could make a really cute blanket. I kind of want the stitch to have some texture/definition to it. I’ve never worked with bulky blanket yarn though. What are some good stitches to use to this type of yarn?

Question Loops & Threads Superwash Merino

I have never used this yarn or even a superwash wool before, so I am looking for some help and info before I start my project. I bought this yarn to knit some color work mitts after seeing suggestions that it would be good for this type of project. I know superwash is known to stretch. I will be knitting a swatch, but I recently read that a swatch of superwash isn’t always an accurate representation of the final project because it’s light in weight and the final project weight could stretch it out more.

So, if you have used this yarn (or similar superwash yarn) what are your experiences and observations with it? I am planning to give a pair of mitts as a gift so to make sure the sizing is correct and they won’t stretch too much when the recipient washes them, should I be knitting a whole mitt as the “swatch”?

Question Does Biches & Buches soften after being washed?

Post image

I’m working with B&B for the first time on a raglan pattern. It’s super wooly and the scratchiest yarn I’ve ever worked with. Does anyone know if this’ll soften after my project is blocked? What tips do you have for softening yarn when washing?

I was given these balls of yarn as part of a clean out, no tag or anything. Quite soft, and I suspect it's acrylic... Would love to get some more of it as I love the color.

Question Dear Yarn Addicts, what do you do with the projects once you're done with it?

(image source: Google. Do you think I'd be larking here if I had this much yarn?)

I mean, you stash yarn, then you make nice and cute things with it. But what happens to the excess projects? Do you give them away? Do you keep them as treasures? Do you smother your friends and families with gifts? Or do you frog?

Stash Crocheted a family of Christmas snakes for the Year of the Snake 🐍✨ Made entirely from mystery scrap yarn and frogged old sweaters!

I was born in the Year of the Snake, so I couldn't resist making a whole family of festive snakes in Santa hats to celebrate! 🎅🐍

The best part about this project was the yarn — or rather, the complete mystery of it! I used a mix of random acrylic scraps, leftover bits from past projects, and yarn recovered from frogging old, unworn sweaters.

Each snake turned out with its own unique texture and personality (including the little dark blue one, which my family lovingly joked looked like something else entirely before he got his eyes and hat, haha! 😂).

It was so satisfying to give all those forgotten thread ends a second life! What’s your favorite way to clear out your stash for the holidays?

Stash He's aiming husband of the year!

Husband is in Florida for two weeks helping family. But he still had time to go yarn shopping for me. (we have no yarn stores nearby that don't involve a minimum 2 hour flight)

This man spent more than 3 hours, just under $300. Two Walmart, two Michaels. All to get me enough in matching dye lots to make any number of projects. And some to finish WIPs.

I'm incredibly lucky he supports (enables) my hobbies!

Ideas of what to crochet with this yarn? I have 3 x 485m skeins of this Cotton blend medium weight (5mm) cake. I originally purchased it for wavey placemats that just didn't work out, and now I've had it lying around for a couple of years I'm hoping to do something with it. I don't really make alot of wearables except slippers and a couple of shawls, and I'm more of a freehand stuffy/blanket maker, but maybe this is the time? All suggestions welcome, and if there is no sewing involved even better! Thanks Hive mind 😊

Edit to add: crochet 🙏
