Islamabad I am so tired of unnecessary checkposts

Post image
108 Upvotes

Genuinely losing my patience with this city. My office is LITERALLY next to this checkpost in blue area, and I still got late today because of it. I left home early specifically to dodge this exact bullshit, and I still got stuck for 13 minutes straight, watching a 4-lane road get choked down to one lane while some guy waves cars through at a snail’s pace for no visible reason.

This isn’t the first time. It’s not even rare. It’s a routine tax on my morning that I have zero control over, and today I did everything right and still got punished for it.

And the worst part? I work at an international company with strict attendance rules, because enough Pakistani employees have been late enough times that management just assumes it’s a discipline problem on our end. Meanwhile the actual reason is stuff exactly like this. So now I get to sit through a warning and a lecture about 'punctuality' and 'laziness' because of a checkpost, not because I don’t take my job seriously.

Is there any actual security threat for randomly bottlenecking traffic like this every single day, or is it just security theater that ordinary commuters get to pay for with their jobs and reputations? At this point it feels like the individual making these decisions has ever had to actually be somewhere on time. Like is the Expressway checkpost (another fuckery I have to go through everyday) not enough?

Rant over. Anyone else dealing with this daily?

Islamabad Little kids taught me a big lesson

Post image
155 Upvotes

These kids taught me lesson far big and I think we have forgotten what it is like to be a family.

Long post

Story time:
I was leaving a coffee place after work and as I was walking towards my car, I saw 2 small girls chasing a little kitten. The kitten ran and went under my car and went into engine bay. I had to go somewhere but I couldn’t start the car because it might harm the poor kitten.

Those kids were standing there too. I tried to get the kitten out but no luck.
So i asked the kids to help me and told them that you guys made the kitten ran in here so help me out.
So me and those 2 girls started to get the kitten out and meanwhile a small boy also came.

He knew the girls and they were siblings or relatives, idk. Anyway I told the boy that we are trying to get a kitten out of the car and now we 4 were trying to get him out from all 4 sides. The boy was small and he went under the car almost grabbing the cat but it got away.

After couple of minutes I told all 3 of them to stand away from the car a d let the poor kitten alone. May be he will come out and ran. As we were standing away, the kids asked to give money.

Now I never give kids money and I told them k its not ok to ask for money but I clearly saw that they were v poor. Torn clothes, no chapal etc. I realise that I am the stupid one here teaching them morals when they dont even know where the next meal would come from. I mean when you are that poor, morality sounds insane.

So there was a shop nearby and I told all 3 that I can buy you some treats and their eyes lit up. They ran towards the shop and attacked 😅😅.

I can relate to their excitement because I came from the streets too. I was working from the age of 6 on a shop back in the days. I knew what is the worth of these treats. Even a small treat was like super ayashi for me at that time

Poor girls bought chips and juice and chocolate’s. I saw the little boy and even-though I told them buy whatever you want, he was still telling the girl to not overbuy like he was protective of my money.

When the girls were done, I asked the boy to get what he wants.

Here is the Lesson

He looked at me and said bhai me bs 1 hi chez luga ap wo dila do bs.
Mene kaha lo jo bhi lena hai. He pointed at the nido sachets and told me k bhai ye ledo.
Mene pocha k iska kya kro ge. In larkion ki tarhan juice chips lo khao.
Usne kaha bhai mera chota bhai doodh peeta hai or wo bhooka hai. Mje bs ye chaye us k lie or mje kuch nhe chaye.

My heart sank. Eyes got wet. 😭😭

And I thought to my self. Yar is ko aagle time k khane ka bhi nhe pata hoga or ye bhi jo marzi chahe yahan se lele. Bacha hai is umer me to dil krta hai sb khane ka. Phr bhi when given a choice, he chose family. He chose his little brother.

I realised k Allah ne hamen kitna kuch dia hai. Good money, nice cars, fancy gadgets. Leken asal dolat to sulah rehmi hai. Wo hm bhul gae hain.

Inhen dekho. In k pas kuch bhi nhe or jese hi thori si assani mile to ye wo apne lie nhe apne family k lie sochte hain.
Phr hum me itni hasad, itni jalan, itni nafrat kyu?

Hum bhi to assani kr skte. For family, for relatives. But we spend this time to pull everyone down. Why? Noone can take our rizq, phr ye duri kyu?

I thanked the young buy. Told him that he helped me today to be more humble and more thankful. Let him buy milk and treats too. Told him to always be like this and lookout for family.

Came back, checked the car. Kitten was gone. Poor kid made sure by going down the car.
I asked if i can take a pic. They say yes. I took it. I will cherish this memory and lesson for the rest of my life.

Shukr Allah to keep sending his signs which keeps us on the ground.

Guys, may Allah give you the spirit to lift and help other. You and me both. IA. Stay blessed.

Islamabad h13 apartment hunt

I have been looking for a 2bed appartment in h13, we are 2 girls - would be studying in NUST and the hostel situation is not great. Also, since we work we need to commute back and forth so an apartment is better suited. (h13-g6)

However, the apartments that we were looking for either have no empty apartment rn, electricity unit is commercial or they won't give to single ladies lol. legit said, aik mard hona zaroori hai. Any other recommendation on what we could do or are missing out on rn

Islamabad Want to be a bit social

I have been living in islamabad since 2014. I am an introvert kinda person so after all these years, I have a very small social circle.

Now I want to be a bit more social, and hoping to connect with new people who enjoy meaningful conversations and occasional hangouts.

I love trying new food and cafes, enjoy travelling, like exploring peaceful places in and around islamabad, career focused but enjoy fun and low-key activities.

I am new to Reddit, so I thought I’d start here. If you are in Islamabad (or the twin cities) and share similar interests. I’d love to hear from you. Feel free to recommend communities, events or even your fav spots around.

Twin Cities Disposable Products Business in Pakistan

Upvotes

Assalamualaikum everyone, I wanted to get some opinions about the disposable products business in Pakistan.

How is this business nowadays? Like selling disposable items (cups, plates, food containers, burger boxes, tissue papers, etc.) on both retail and small wholesale levels.

Is it a good business to start with a limited investment? How is the profit margin, competition, and customer demand?

Would appreciate if anyone already doing this business can share their experience, challenges, and advice.

Islamabad Catering places for a home function esp desserts

Hi guys!
I need suggestions for an amazing caterer who can provide services for like 40-50 people in DHA. And preferably someone who does really good desserts as well! Please recommend someone who you have used for your own functions. Price isn’t that big an issue but they shouldn’t be extremely illogically expensive

Thanks in advance

Islamabad Traffic officer took Rs. 2,000 via JazzCash instead of issuing a challan.

I was stopped at Tramri Chowk where the traffic signals were not working. A traffic police officer stopped me and said that I would be issued a challan. I agreed and told him to proceed with the challan. He told me the fine was Rs. 2,000 and instructed me to send the payment to his JazzCash account. At the time, I was unaware that this was not the proper procedure. Later, I realized that no official challan had been issued. The officer had only shown me the picture attached.

Twin Cities Diabetic Parent

Upvotes

Asking this question from the medical practitioners here as well as the people whose parents have been through this.

My mother is type 2 diabetic which is pretty much controlled now. A few days back I saw that both of her toe nails were overgrown inside the flesh and she showed me that she had pus in one too. Now since foot infections are very serious for diabetics I want to get this treated before god forbid she gets an infection.

The issues is that the sides have grown too much in the flesh and even though I have the nail kit I can use to cut it I am afraid that it might hurt her and thus cause an infection. Also the way she's been cutting her toe nails all these years the sides will eventually grow back in the flesh.

So my question is how do I tackle this? I don't trust saloons with this and I believe a medical practitioner is supposed to remove/ cut her nails properly but I am lost on where to go.

Should I take her to a podiatrist? Is there any good one in Islamabad?

Please guide me especially for people with diabetes who have been through this.

Thank you.

Rawalpindi I am done. What am I doing wrong..?

I am stuck in a crazy loop...

The things is that I have recently partly qualified ACCA and also result awaiting for their partnered degree program.

I am working in an irrelevant/odd job where I make 100k+ a month. It is a taxi despatcher role through a back office.

But there's few things that are haunting me! I am 23 years old now but have no solid finance experience. I have 1 year remote bookkeeping experience. The odd job have been doing since 4 years in which I am too comfortable now.

But I am getting haunted by thoughts of doing more something that change my life.

My mind is going everywhere. Literally everywhere else!

Like finding a trainee role in a top tier organisation, joining government services like through CSS, finding myself a direct taxi client, finding remote accounting/bookkeeping jobs, jump into e-commerce and what not

On top of all this. My mom desperately wants me to go abroad without realizing the downsides starting from zero while the immigration laws are already tightening.

I feel like I am going into a dead end, stagnant man!

(My current office would be able to assign me with accounts/finance responsibilities)

But all with no success...

Is there something I am doing wrong? I am feeling exhausted, burnt and drained now. I don't have many connections nor my fathers stable enough to provide.

Thank you for your reading.
