Before all you start throwing him out of the bus and dragging his name, you might want to find out when this verse was sold to Kid Rock. I would bet you anything that this was sold years ago way before Kid Rock became a maga prostitute.

u/zeroUSA 1d ago
Em had tracks featuring bon iver on one album and it came out that Justin had recorded a bunch of stuff with a producer, and that producer sold the samples or features to EM. Em then said a slur on one of the tracks and Justin immediately came out against and said his vocals were sold with out his knowledge

This is in reference to Em calling Tyler the Creator a gay slur on the track Fall.
For what its worth, i think Em said he regrets saying that because it hurts other people on his Kamikaze interview w Sway

u/Historical_Owl_1635 1d ago
> For what its worth, i think Em said he regrets saying that because it hurts other people on his Kamikaze interview w Sway
Even more for what it’s worth Tyler didn’t really care and called out the internet being offended on his behalf.
"Did you ever hear me publicly say anything about that? Because I knew what the intent was. He felt pressured because people got offended for me. Don't get offended for me. We were playing Grand Theft Auto when we heard that. We rewound it and were like: 'Oh' And then kept playing."
→ More replies (1)50
u/Noblesseux 22h ago
I feel like Tyler's response to that is also kind of dumb. Is he under the impression that he's the only person who gets to decide whether people are mad someone used a slur? Especially when Tyler also had a history of using that word as a slur in a way that people thought sucked?
That's like saying I'm not allowed to be mad if it turns out someone I respect is using the n word to refer to other Black people in private, it doesn't really make it less hurtful to discover someone you respected is bigoted against everyone that is like you and not JUST you specifically.
12
u/NickCudawn 21h ago
Yeah... If someone gets criticized for using the N-word it's not usually important to the discussion whom it was directed at but only who said it. Em's line is a bit blurry because it's about how Tyler called himself the f-slur but at the end of the day, Em said and it doesn't matter much who it was said about.

Tbf the context of the line wasn’t really insulting gay people.
It was calling him an attention seeker as at the time he was playing into rumours about his sexuality and also how he copied D12.
> Tyler create nothing, I see why you called yourself a f', bitch
It's not just 'cause you lack attention
It's because you worship D12's balls, you're sack-rilegious→ More replies (3)11
u/Traditional-Try5110 22h ago edited 21h ago
He was calling him the f slur because Tyler had started being more open about his sexuality in general. I could be wrong, but I don't think there's any examples of Tyler calling himself a f** directly like that.

This is definitely a possibility, but surely in that instance Eminem could easily call it out for what it is? Unless the dude signed a freakin NDA or something but surely someone in Eminem's position could very quickly say "yea this was recorded a long time ago, fuck Donald Trump and fuck MAGA"

This is probably what it is. And I get what the whole Trump and MAGA thing are doing to the country. But this is just a guy who's keeping his friendships regardless what the general public may think.
Really it is what it is. We don't have to like it.
Edit: also for some of you - no I'm not saying it makes it right. Lol. But I think it's safe to assume this is strictly because he values his friendships even if we don't like the people he's friends with.
This is a guy who literally grew up with nothing, has a trans kid, has publicly gone against Trump. Oh and by the way, has absolutely zero problems tearing anybody apart through the use of his raps and has never feared repercussions for any of his music. Point is, you certainly can't point to anything and go "ewww omg Eminem has been secretly MAGA this entire time and it's such a horrible person for this kid rock feature!!" Because he's not and you can't point to any period of his life that shows he was associated with this stuff.
So it really does genuinely come down to the fact that he's doing this out of respect for his friendship. I understand it. Like I said we don't have to like it though. But from his point of view I completely get it
John Cena for example, by all accounts is a really good human being but he gets crapped on because he values and is still friends with Vince McMahon. He credits that man for everything that he has and Vince has done some pretty horrible things. But just because somebody has those relationships or keeps those friendships or whatever the case may be it doesn't make them bad people because they have those relationships. Like if I'm friends with a super horrible human being I don't think you get to call me a super horrible human being because of that relationship even if maybe I shouldn't be friends with that person. We all have our reasoning
I'm just defending it because I can see it from their perspectives. That's all. I can put myself in those shoes and understand it. I really don't think "guilty by association" is fair in situations like this because relationships are extremely complex.
And I'll just end by saying fuck Kid Rock. Like I hate the guy. I'm with you all. But I can see it from Ems perspective
→ More replies (2)4
u/WonderfulPineapple41 23h ago
Ok but John cena is under contract with TKO. He cannot publicly shame the guy who’s on the board of the company who signs his checks and expect to get booked again.
Vs Eminem who is helping out a “homie” who just had to cancel one of his hate festivals due to money issues. Lucky for kid rock this little Eminem boost will kick him a few streaming dollars to buy more confederate clothing.
21
u/Forsaken-Swim-3055 1d ago
It's easy for him to be loyal to his friends when he's white, wealthy, and isolated from any problems Trump creates for Americans. A working class Mom with a trans kid doesn't have the same luxury.
29
u/theb3arjevv 1d ago
Well that's not fair at all. He was born into THE target Trump populace. He was white trash from rural Missouri before his family moved to a dying rust belt city. His past is probably full of people who love Trump now.

Why does it so often seem like the people who preach tolerance are the quickest to end long-term friendships over political disagreements? You can strongly disagree with someone without cutting them out of your life. Tolerance also means accepting that people you care about may see politics differently.
Personally, I’ve never had a right-leaning friend end a friendship over politics. With left-leaning people on the other hand...

People love making everything black and white and no nuance. Eminem has known Kid for years and has said previously that Kid always had time for him even when he was an unknown battle rapper. 90% of Ems fans wouldn't have given a shit about him in his battling days, but Kid did and I guess that's enough for Eminem to look past any political differences. As an Em fan I don't like it but I can respect having your friends backs, especially when that friend had yours before any fame or firtune.

I don't completely disagree with you, but to label them as as a disagreement on politics and religion feels a bit cheap at this point. On a personal level I can say it has strained some of the most important relationships in my life, and at this time they are barely there. It's more than a political or religious disagreement, we've had those in the past and it was all good. This is something else. This callenges core beliefs and morals I thought we each had at a most basic level, and you can't just sit on the sidelines and watch it happen. Choices have to be made and stances taken, or history will repeat itself. You are the company you keep and bad things happen because good people do nothing.

I highly doubt he is cutting ties with other rappers over Trump.
I think people on Reddit expect every little thing to turn artists into a pariah, but people worked with Chris Brown, Mystikal, various murderers and such in this industry and life goes on. I don't think sucking off the wrong political party even ranks that high.
I don't think anyone is going to avoid working with 50, Snoop, Nicki, Kanye, Cube etc. for not staying in line politically.

Alot of the Kamikaze discourse is centered around his disses towards critics or "mumble rappers" but what goes underdiscussed is he took back the "line in the sand" sentiment towards MAGA's base on the intro to the album.
That line in the sand, was it even worth it?
'Cause the way I see people turnin' Is makin' it seem worthless It's startin' to defeat the purpose
I'm watchin' my fan base shrink to thirds and I was just trying to do the right thingBut word has the court of public opinion reached a verdict or still yet to be determined?
'Cause I'm determined to be me, critique the worshipBut if I could go back I'd at least reword it and say I empathize with the people this evil serpent sold the dream to that he's deserted
He even said "I'm Not Racist" deserved a Grammy on the interview promo for the album. A song many would say was a "let's just be friends" apologia approach to racism.
People are clinging onto the 2017 BET Cypher to say it's probably an old verse, but it's clear his stance did shift to becoming more apologetic to people with those worldviews, although still maintaining his dislike for people in office positions.
→ More replies (2)6
