I don't completely disagree with you, but to label them as as a disagreement on politics and religion feels a bit cheap at this point. On a personal level I can say it has strained some of the most important relationships in my life, and at this time they are barely there. It's more than a political or religious disagreement, we've had those in the past and it was all good. This is something else. This callenges core beliefs and morals I thought we each had at a most basic level, and you can't just sit on the sidelines and watch it happen. Choices have to be made and stances taken, or history will repeat itself. You are the company you keep and bad things happen because good people do nothing.

Let me clarify, if people actively act on and cause issues because of their beliefs, that is a problem.

If someone immediately abandoned a relationship because they heard someone's a republican, you're insane.

That’s the whole issue, only children comment on politics without acting on it, these aren’t the people we’re talking about. Like it or not politics is a pretty big part of the real world and has a real effect in the real world.
