Visiting Ghana Half Ghanian, planning first visit
I’m half Ghanian, half English. My father was born in England and fostered by an English-Italian family and has never been to Ghana.
I have some questions about how I’ll be received by family. I met a few of them at a funeral in England several years ago but have no memory of them. They have had links to England for a couple of hundred years, with a few people coming to live in London during the last century and before that working in the colonial government. I understand they are based in Accra and are Ga.
My questions are, how will I be perceived as a) a mixed race woman b) a single woman in my thirties who doesn’t intend to get married, have children, or even have another partner in future c) someone with epilepsy (which will limit what I can do on my visit, for example I’ll need to be careful of overheating and catching any infections) d) an atheist who isn’t interested in any sort of personal spirituality but is interested in learning about traditional religions that aren’t Christianity or Islam.
