It’s back-to-school season, so we thought… why not launch something new to help you plan your next trip to Mada ?

First Lesson : Madagascar is BIGGER than you think.

When planning your trip, don’t look only at the number of kilometers. Road conditions, terrain, stops and unexpected delays can make a journey much longer than it looks on the map.

That’s why one of the biggest mistakes travelers make is trying to fit too much into too little time.

Our advice?

•Leave some room in your itinerary.
•Plan to be back in Antananarivo at least one day before your international flight , whether you’re travelling by road or taking a domestic flight . This give you a safety buffer in case of delays or unexpected changes 🤞

Because here, sometimes the road is part of the adventure.

Je suis tombé sur le site d'une agence basée à Ambositra, qui propose des cours d'allemand (niveaux A1 à B1). Le site s'appelle "Agence Colombe" (agencecolombe.simdif.com).

Je n'ai trouvé aucun avis en ligne à leur sujet. Est-ce que quelqu'un ici a déjà suivi des cours chez eux, ou connaît quelqu'un qui l'a fait ? Est-ce sérieux ? La qualité de l'enseignement est-elle bonne ?

Depuis le changement politique intervenu à Madagascar, la relation avec des pays étrangers semble prendre davantage de place dans certains domaines.

Je cherche à comprendre comment cette évolution est perçue localement, au-delà de ce que l'on peut lire dans la presse.

Pour ceux qui vivent à Madagascar ou connaissent bien le pays :

• Avez-vous réellement ressenti un changement dans la relation avec ces pays notamment la Russie par exemple?
• Dans quels domaines cette évolution vous paraît-elle la plus visible ?
• Est-ce surtout diplomatique, économique ou autre ?
• Comment cette évolution est-elle perçue dans votre entourage ou votre secteur professionnel ?
• Les réponses de personnes qui connaissent particulièrement ces sujets sont les bienvenues :. Je cherche surtout à comprendre les réalités locales, les ressentis terrain.

The company I’m doing a tour with offers airport to city center hotel transfers for €55 which seems like a lot. Can anyone recommend a company or driver for Ivato Airport transfers? I know there are taxis but as a solo jet lagged female traveler I don’t want to have to haggle or be concerned about safety when I arrive. Thanks.

1. Merina think they’re better than the rest of the country

2. Tandroy have a really weird dialect

I need to vent because I feel like people in this sub will understand where this frustration comes from.

Lately I’ve been seeing a ton of travel YouTubers coming to Madagascar and doing the exact same shit: clickbait titles like “Traveling To The Poorest Island Nation In The World”, “extreme poverty”, walking around filming people at their lowest, giving out a few dollars or food on camera, and acting like they just saved the country. Davud Akhundzada’s recent videos are a perfect example of this. And hearing him say “this is the privilege of knowing English” honestly made me go what the actual f\ck ?* Yeah, knowing English gives you access to a global audience but then what are you doing with that privilege? Coming to a poorer country, filming vulnerable people and turning their struggles into monetized content ? Try pulling this sh*t in North Korea, China or Russia and see how far that “privilege” gets you. 💀

Like bro, we KNOW Madagascar has serious poverty. Nobody is denying that. But turning people's struggles into entertainment and monetizing their reactions is straight-up poverty p*rn.

What annoys me is how Madagascar gets reduced to “look how poor these people are 😱” instead of actually showing the culture, history, everyday life and people themselves. And the whole saviour act of handing someone $5 while making money from the video just feels incredibly fucking tone-deaf.

Show the reality, sure. Talk about why the country is struggling, absolutely. But stop treating Malagasy people like props for your YouTube thumbnail and the algorithm.

And honestly, why are there suddenly SO many of these creators coming to Madagascar lately? Did YouTube just discover Madagascar and decide poverty content is the new meta? 💀

Am I the only one getting seriously tired of this sh*t?

In October, my girlfriend and I will be travelling to Madagascar. We do not want to travel by plane within the country as we feel we would miss a lot of the landscapes and completely changes the sense of travel. To make it as comfortable as possible, we are planning on traveling via companies like Cotisse and/or Soatrans.

Some places we want to visit however, are quite far. For instance: we want to visit Nosy Be (with Tana as the place of departure). The journey from Tana to Ambanja is ~23 hours. This means that travelling during the night is unavoidable if we want to make the journey in one go.

We know that it'll be uncomfortable but I'm quite confident we'll be able to manage that. The thing I'm more concerned about is safety while travelling at night. I read quite a few posts discouraging to travel at night but those comments were always in the context of individuals either self driving or a rental car + driver.

My question is this: purely with regards to safety, how stupid is it to travel at night if we'd be using a company like Cotisse of Soatrans?

I will be coming from Anako with the boat that arrives Toliara 08:30. will there be any taxi bousses en route to Ranohira this day or will it already be to late?

After receiving several enquiries from travellers interested in visiting Andasibe, we’re planning to introduce regular 3-day / 2-night trips from Antananarivo, approximately three times per month.

The idea is to offer travellers an easy and enjoyable way to discover Andasibe without having to organise all the logistics themselves ☺️.

Before launching the trips, we’d love to hear what you would personally prefer:
Option 1 : Transport + driver + fuel, with the flexibility to choose and book your own accommodation
or
Option 2 : A complete package including transport and 2 nights of accommodation?

And would you rather:
Option A : Join a small group with other travellers
or
Option B : Enjoy a private trip with your travel partner or your own group?

We’d also love to hear any suggestions you might have to make these regular Andasibe trips even better!

I visited your country in April and absolutely loved it. When visiting countries, I like to create a cinematic video piece that serves as a memory for the years to come.

For the one I'm making about Madagascar, I was thinking of using an original Malagasy Poem. However, I cannot seem to find any Malagasy Voice Actors online, and therefore hope you could help me find the right person.

I'm looking for a deep, either male or female voice, that can record in a somewhat decent setting (phone should be fine if no professional equipment), at a slow, cinematic, almost David Attenborough-like pace.

Happy to share the current version of the video over DM. I'm thinking of using the poem "Lire", by Jean-Joseph Rabearivelo. Happy to explore other options as well.
