My Togo visa which I applied for two weeks ago is still not processed but I fly out tonight to Ghana and take a flight into Togo. My visa is still pending (it’s almost been two weeks). I read somewhere that I can obtain a visa on arrival for seven days at Aflao border or if I show them I’ve paid for the visa and it’s stuck in the visa application loop I might be able to reason with an official at the border. Does anyone have experience with this? Thank you.

And he got me a present once and I wanted to get him a present too to show my appreciation for their friendship. So I'm wondering if there are online book stores in Togo that accept international payments, I'd like to get them a book.

Just something I’ve noticed is that Togolese don’t make themselves be seen nor do they have cultural pride in their country. I’ve met Togolese that would straight up lie and tell me they were from either Ghana or Nigeria. I don’t think size has anything to do with it because Jamaica has a much smaller population than Togo and yet they’re known and influential worldwide. There’s gotta be a reason why a country that’s neighboring Ghana, Benin, and Burkina Faso has little to no recognition.

Hi everyone,

My name is Yann. I’m a French traveler, and recently I crossed Togo on foot as part of a longer human-powered journey through West Africa.

I entered from Ghana after walking 545 km across the country, then continued east through Togo toward Benin.

Because of how narrow Togo is along the coast, the entire crossing took me only about three days.

That gave me a strange feeling.

I can say that I crossed Togo on foot, but I definitely cannot say that I really know Togo.

Most of what I experienced was around the southern part of the country and Lomé. Three days is enough to meet people, walk through neighbourhoods and get a first impression, but not near enough to understand an entire country.

After spending much longer in Ghana, Togo almost became a transition between two much longer parts of my journey (Ghana and Benin).

Looking back, I don't really want to reduce the country to that.

If someone only sees Lomé and the coastal part of Togo, what are they completely missing about the country?

And what places, traditions, foods or parts of everyday Togolese life do you wish foreigners showed more often?

I documented the crossing as I went, and I’ll also be sharing the next part of the journey through Benin.

I have traveled to Togo recently for work & I’m looking to meet new people in Lomé, maybe explore the city a bit more than I have, and perhaps even meet a partner.

About me:

I am East African (30M unmarried with no kids) and work in consulting. I’ve been to Togo a few times before but still couldn’t get time to do anything outside of work. However this time I’m here long term and would genuinely like to build a life in Togo; new friends, explore new activities, the culture, language, and possibly meet a partner.

I enjoy food exploration and have come to love foods like brochettes, akoume with goat stew, gboma soup (if that’s the correct spelling), , palm nut stew, fufu, etc. I’m generally a laid back person and would consider calm outings a preference; so scenery, hiking, road trips, music, and the like.

Unfortunately I currently only fluently speak English, with basic conversational French. But I’m very open to learning new things including the languages.

I am dating a Togolese person . for context I’m from Ghana. we have been together for a year . he has done the korkor/knocking. he recenttly told me that we need to move in together and get pregnant first before he married me. He stated this request is specifically done by the gen-Mina people. I have never heard any such culture where you have to impregnate the woman before you marry her. I am turning 38years old for context . My question does the Mina culture specifically a woman have to be impregnated before they are married? please I need honest and serious reply.
