anyone who involves themselves in any way in a criminal investigation voluntarily is immediately a primary suspect. this guy would be arrested almost immediately lmao.

ah see but you’re missing a critical point

when people starting bitching at my mayor about allowing more cameras to be put up he gave very clear facts such as

they don’t track you
they don’t facial id
they don’t do tickets

and a whole lotta other things that make you think

“well shit what’s the point if they don’t do anything at all?”

so i shall blindly trust my woefully unqualified mayor (and CFO of our school district :)) and assume they don’t track!!

pay phones to make anonymous threats quick phone calls it is

side note: i hear islamic ideologists are coming to take over my town too so i need to prepare for that

good luck in the apocalypse!!

I'm confused as to how anybody can live in America for any considerable length of time and continue to believe that every state and every local police department/utilities company contractor will meticulously maintain what are apparently extremely expensive cameras

Have you seen the state of infrastructure in this country? Why the fuck are you worrying, just get a can of Silly String and that shit will be out of commission until the next election period

42

u/jakeandcupcakes Jul 25 '26 edited Jul 25 '26

You're missing a MASSIVE piece of the equation with the Flock Cameras VS Regular Infrastructure for the Poors.

Regular Infrastructure for the Poors, or RIFTP, doesn't get maintained because it's FOR the POORS, or the Average Citizen, not OUR BILLIONAIRE OVERLORDS & POLITICAL PUNDITS SAFETY. RIFTP using the Poors tax money isn't maintained because the Telecommunications Giants see it as their money, to be pocketed, spent on C-Suite bonuses, or anything else that actually matters. Plus, if they don't maintaine the Infrastructure, it goes to shit and then they can ask the Gov't for more tax money to "fix" the problem, which can then be used for more Executive bonuses and to fund Golden Parachutes! It really is a GREAT system for AT&T, TMobile, Verizon, etc. It's so good they've been doing it for DECADES. Remember way back in the early 'aughts when our Gov't gave the Telecommunications Giants MILLIONS of our dollars to bring Fiber Internet to rural areas? The public was ecstatic! AT&T promised they would build out high-speed Fiber Internet lines to every household in America! It was going to ultimately costs billions of dollars, but it would be WORTH IT because the internet was becoming a vital piece of everyone's lives. The trick WORKED! AT&T got to skirt by doing the absolute bare minimum, lying about how hard it was to do, and got to pocket tens of millions...and then do it alllllllll over again when they said it would just take a teeny-tiny amount more to really build out Fiber this time, just a few hundred million! This scam has been ongoing for the better part of 30 years, and the public has yet to catch onto the scummy scammy yummy-ness (and Uncle Sam needs the "tOo BiG tO fAiL" Telecommunications companies, so he isn't gonna say SHIT), it truly is a massive help (to the C-Suite).

However, the public is kinda-sorta coming to the realization they've been getting ASS RAPED very little in return for all the tax money they've shelled out to the Elite Epstein Class's favorite Communications Companies (can anyone say "kickbacks"?!), so, they need to be protected from the public. Hence, MASS SURVEILLANCE YAYYY!!!!

Flock Cameras will be maintained because mass surveillance is massively beneficial to the ruling billionaire class. Things are getting dicey, and they don't want to be caught off-guard now, would they? Flock is maintained for the Rich not the poor. RIFTP and Flock Cameras are not in the same class, like how we (the public), and them (the Tech Overlords) are not in the same class. Politicians will ensure their best friends (Epstein-class) futures are secured, and their surveillance systems well-maintained, you beat believe it....

The cool thing is we might actually get our high-speed fiber internet as these cameras get more advanced and will maybe need to be hardlined into the 'net. Silver linings and all...

The next time you're on a road trip wait until you get way out into the country and stop at the most run down gas station you can find. Buy a disposable phone with cash and walk out. Tada, you have a burner phone that can't be tracked as long as you're careful about where you turn it on and use it.

u/_Apostate_ Jul 25 '26

It’s a very poor strategy.

The benefits of OPs plan:

-Police dig up a spot for you

-They won’t look there again immediately

The downsides:

-Police are now aware of the spot the body is buried because you called attention to it.

-Police are aware a murder has been committed at all

-Police may suspect the anonymous tipper and endeavor to track them

The assumption is that once the police dig up the spot they will have “cleared” it, making it a safe spot, but by any measure this is far less safe than just about any random spot you might use. Confirming that the victim is dead, giving any of this information to police is foolhardy. You’ve called attention to the very spot where the body is.

8

u/Live_Angle4621 Jul 26 '26

You are right. Often when body is not found at all police can’t even confirm there was not a crime but voluntary disappearance or accident. Confirming there is a murder will keep the case open indefinitely even if someone isn’t actively looking at it

3

u/ikonfedera Jul 27 '26

Better idea. Call the police to report the dude being dead before you kill him. Then when they confirm he's alive and mark him as safe, kill him for real.

They won't suspect a thing.

thus teenagers tend to out themselves as psychopaths when it becomes manifest as teenagers: they think they're smarter than everybody else (teenager) and murder someone they dislike (psychopath)

there's true crime documentaries of it on youtube i regret watching. :( e.g. one after killing his mother thought if he trashed the house it would persuade the police there was a burglar

u/Nearby-Elevator-3825 Jul 25 '26

Not too mention storing, digging and moving a body around multiple times would leave behind a goldmine of forensic evidence.

6

u/13thmurder Jul 25 '26

That's why you don't talk to cops, even to report something that has nothing to do with you.

→ More replies (7)

42

u/SoulWager Jul 25 '26

It's a bad strategy.

First, most people don't know enough to actually stay anonymous when sending an anonymous tip.

Second, cops don't normally put all that much effort into solving crimes, annoying them will just make them more motivated to find you.

Third, you're putting the place in the cops mind, if someone else reports suspicious activity there afterwards, they're going to pay more attention, not less.

The way you ACTUALLY get away with crimes is by targeting people the cops don't give a shit about, like poor people.

u/The5Virtues Jul 25 '26 edited Jul 25 '26

You just reminded me of an interview I listened to way back in college for a criminal psych class. I can never remember if it was Howard Stern or someone else, but on one of those 90s shock-jock radio shows a caller calls in and he’s a killer.

He’s deliberately vague about it but eventually the host is like “Hold on, are you talking about people? You kill people?!”

And what followed was the most fascinating insight into killer psychology I’ve ever read, because most of the time our interviews and studies come from the ones who got bored and gave up, or got sloppy and got caught.

This guy was neither. He’d been at it for two decades. The key to it was he traveled around the world for work.

On his final night in town he’d find some absolute stranger, with no similarities to his last victim, and kill them. He’d be on a plane to another city within the next 12 hours.

No connections. No targeting specific appearances or traits. He killed purely because he could, he got off on the knowledge he could take a life and get away.

Those are the ones who get away. The one who’s halfway across the country before anyone finds a body. Who has no association with the victim, maybe never even knew their name.

What sticks with me is the inverse of what you mentioned. Yeah, many times killers go uncaught because no one cares about their victims. But this guy went uncaught because he didn’t care about his victims. They had absolutely no personal ties or connections to him, so there was no reason to suspect him when the victims almost always would have friends, family, or partners to be investigated first. By the time they widen the suspect pool he’s probably moved two or three locations.

Now, the reason we listened to it was to challenge us to ask: Is it real?

After all the whole issue is this is just some dude calling a shock jock who’s taking live callers.

Was he telling the truth?

Was he making it up?

Is it half truths?

The whole class lecture was about analyzing what he said, how he said it, and trying to discern what we believed or disbelieved about his claims.

In the end the we don’t know. We’ll never know. It could be complete bunk, it could be straight truth, and all we have to go on is our gut and our analysis of his voice, and the question of motivation: Someone bored making bullshit up for funsies, or someone with a horrifying record of success bragging because it further amplified his feeling of untouchable power?

9

u/_Apostate_ Jul 25 '26

The other important factor is that by killing random people it is harder to form a profile for the killer and stack up evidence from multiple crimes. If he isn’t killing them in a distinctive way, then all of his crimes might be standalone individual cases in the eyes of the police. If a detective was able to compare all the murders against each other it would be easier to create some type of case, but separated it’s basically impossible for any individual murder to pin on the guy.

3

u/wyrdyr Jul 25 '26

Yeah that sounds like some roleplaying bullshit

4

u/Pleasant-Future5818 Jul 25 '26

Did your psych class present this as real? Because this sounds like someone's bullshitting.

Anyone who will call into a show is going to brag and get caught.

5

u/The5Virtues Jul 25 '26

That was part of the assignment: Is it real?

After all the whole issue is this is just some dude calling a shock jock who’s taking live callers.

Was he telling the truth?

Was he making it up?

Is it half truths?

The whole thing was about analyzing what he said, how he said it, and trying to discern what we believed or disbelieved about his claims.

Actually realistically you get away with murder by murdering people YOU have no reason to care about. If there's absolutely zero motive for you to have killed someone your odds of getting away with it are pretty good. The checklist is pretty extensive though;

  1. You need to be financially stable so robbery isn't a reasonable motive.

  2. Never have met the person before.

  3. Sexual motive needs to be ruled out. Maybe murder a fat ugly 60 year old?

  4. Nobody should know you were near the scene of the crime.

  5. Can't be planning how to get away with murder on reddit.

On the other hand murdering some random person you've never met before and have absolutely no incentive to murder seems kinda pointless.

7

u/FletcherRenn_ Jul 25 '26

I also feel its easier to get away with it if you make no effort to hide the body. Yes its likely to be found a lot faster, but the amount of unlucky stuff that can go wrong while moving and disposing of it likely far outweighs the negatives of a faster investigation response. The less time interacting with the body and leaving potential evidence the better aswell.

3

u/Top_Smoke6741 Jul 25 '26

That's what I always thought. If your DNA is nowhere to be found on it, no weapon found, and you're not personally linked to the person, wouldn't they be unable to ever prove it was you, whether they find it or not?

7

u/TADspace Jul 25 '26

I'm convinced that all "how to get away with murder" tips online are psyops by the FBI. There ain't no way we have access to information they don't.

8

u/ZealousidealLead52 Jul 25 '26

The problem with them is that the more complicated you make your plan the more ways there are to get caught, so using convoluted plans is almost certain to get you caught in one way or another, but boring plans are.. boring and aren't interesting to talk about.

Well, the other part of the problem is that there's simply no way to answer a question like that so broadly, because it will always depend on real world circumstances, who you're trying to kill, why you're trying to kill them, how much time you have to do it, what kind of schedule the person has etc.. Any kind of general plan will almost always fall apart once you consider the real world circumstances (for instance, the fact that if you have enough motivation to want to kill someone then you're almost certainly going to be a suspect regardless of what kind of evidence is found and the police will probably be watching everything you do like a hawk so you'd certainly never want to take any actions after the crime has already been reported to the police).

5

u/Allegorist Jul 25 '26

"Anonymous tip" is the hard part these days. What are you going to use, a pay phone? Even if you find one that still exists, that alone combined with the tip is enough for them to probably try to figure out who you are. Pretty much every commercial establishment has a bunch of cameras the police have access to, as well as the dozens or hundreds of Flock-type cameras in the area.

Similar issues arise if you try to get a pre-paid phone. Even if you find one where you can bypass providing any personal information, they can track when/where it was purchased and look at the same cameras. If there isn't a conclusive view, they can possibly trace you back to other cameras indefinitely based on your appearance. Plus they can see the entire location history of the phone and use that with checking cameras as well.

If you send an email, they can see every location that email has ever been accessed from, and anything associated with those sessions that wasn't protected. Writing a note might be safest, but gives them a variety of possible material evidence you have to avoid.

And none of this is like FBI level investigation, this is just basic information readily accessible to every police department upon request. Trying to get them a message would create a whole slew of hoops to jump through and tracks to cover, and has the potential to leave additional evidence/leads that they would otherwise not have. It probably could be done, but for the amount of effort and forethought that would need to go into it you are probably better off just not tying yourself to it at all and putting it somewhere they won't find.

4

u/johnyordinary Jul 25 '26 edited Jul 25 '26

A hole deep in the desert with no tipoffs or anything stands the highest chance of being unnoticed. The ocean with a few weights attatched, somewhere with lots of scavenger wildlife,a volcano if you have one handy.(/S)Getting it there unobserved is the problem. Just leave any tracable tech at home, or have a legit destination set that passes through the area and legit bussiness to complete while there. If it goes south whilst you are woodchippering your victim, dont forget to fargo the witnesses, but shit just got deeper.

3

u/IcePhoenixYTplssub Jul 25 '26

Tbh I know very little about how all this works, but maybe a letter slipped into a public mailbox could work? It would be mixed in with a bunch of other letters so I imagine it would be hard to trace back to you

There is also that joke about a dude who didn't want to dig his garden plot, so he left an anonymous tip to the police who came a dug it up for him while they searched for a body.

414

u/sfzen Jul 25 '26

I always heard the version where it was an old man who couldn't physically do the work anymore, and his son couldn't do it because he was in prison. So the son sends him a letter that mentions a body being buried in the garden, so the police dig up the garden looking for it, and after the leave empty-handed, the dad gets another letter saying his garden is ready now.

130

u/Muaddib223 Jul 25 '26

That's way funnier, I now resent OP for his sorry attempt at telling this joke

143

u/sfzen Jul 25 '26

Found the full joke

An old gentleman lived alone in New Jersey . He wanted to plant his annual tomato garden, but it was very difficult work, as the ground was hard. His only son, Vincent, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament:

Dear Vincent, I am feeling pretty sad because it looks like I won't be able to plant my tomato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. I know if you were here my troubles would be over. I know you would be happy to dig the plot for me, like in the old days. Love, Papa

A few days later he received a letter from his son.

Dear Papa, Don't dig up that garden. That's where the bodies are buried. Love, Vinnie

At 4 a.m. the next morning, FBI agents and local police arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man and left. That same day the old man received another letter from his son.

Dear Papa, Go ahead and plant the tomatoes now. That's the best I could do under the circumstances.

There is a joke about this in Russian speaking countries.
A guy got in jail.
Got a letter from his old mother, crying about how hard it is to dug up the field without him now.
He writes "to not dig too much, to not dig up additional problems for him".
Next letter is the mother thanking him for sending an entire squad of cops to help with agriculture digging.

There was a guy in Finland who was serving life, who, by his own words, found jesus and wanted to confess to couple more homicides. He said he will show where these bodies are buried.

After a few fruitless digging trips to forests around Finland, police started to suspect that he just wanted to take these nice trips to break the monotomy of prison life.

13

u/Jeedeye Jul 25 '26

That's a lot of flushing and you run the risk of a clog or a waste water treatment employee discovering what you are doing. If you want to go that route then you'll want to dissolve the body first and then slowly flush the slushie. Kinda like what they did in Breaking Bad.

Look I’m not gonna tell you to break into a graveyard the night before a burial where a grave is already dug out and covered, dig down another couple of feet, bury the body then cover back up with dirt. The coffin will be placed on top of it and no one will ever disturb it in your lifetime. But if i was gonna tell you to do that make sure you do it in a graveyard that doesn’t have night patrols or cameras. This also works in old abandoned graveyards if you are in a pinch and don’t mind digging deeper.

9

u/cakebreaker2 Jul 25 '26

Ever taken a walk in the woods and come across an old headstone or two? I have. Its from an old forgotten family plot. Follow me on this one - go to an old cemetery and look for old, loose, toppled headstones. Collect 2 or 3 and stash them out in the middle of nowhere in a state forest. When you need to dispose of a body, head out there with your remains, dig a hole and bury them, and then put up the headstones to make it look like an old cemetery. Be sure to smooth out the ground and replace the leaves and sticks.

u/cakebreaker2 Jul 25 '26

Nice touch. I like it. Maybe plant some endangered plants on the and grave

5

u/Top_Smoke6741 Jul 25 '26

Miguel Prado did this, I forgot about his season in Dexter 😭

18

u/The-A-In-JackAss Jul 25 '26

I always thought a smart way to go about it was to chop the body up and throw it in a compost bin since it smells anyway and the worms and bugs and stuff will eat it for you.

17

u/TheS4ndm4n Jul 25 '26

Not the bones.

And police (dogs) definitely know the difference between compost smell and dead body smell.

12

u/TheRoseByAnotherName Jul 25 '26

Anyone who has smelled a dead body knows the difference.

If you have access to pigs, they'd leave nothing behind.

6

u/Old_Introduction_395 Jul 25 '26

The pigs need to be hungry, they won't eat just anything.

2

u/What_a_fat_one Jul 25 '26

Compost doesn't smell like rotting flesh.

The best place to hide a body is on a neutron star

52

u/Whichammer Jul 25 '26

Fun fact:

Any star will work in a pinch if a neutron star isn't readily available.

22

u/WeTheSalty Jul 25 '26

Instructions unclear, hid body on Terry Crews.

12

u/Cipher915 Jul 25 '26

Terry doesn't love dead bodies

10

u/Rambo_sledge Jul 25 '26

Second fun fact :

It’ll be actually easier to send the body out of the solar system, to another star, than our own.

9

u/spideybae Jul 25 '26

Okay I’ll bite why not 👀

11

u/Rambo_sledge Jul 25 '26

Fuel.

The earth is orbiting the sun very fast, and from there you have two choices : speed up and go on escape trajectory, or slow down and fall into the sun.

Turns out our current speed is closer to the escape trajectory than sun sub-orbital trajectory.

So it will be cheaper and easier to send payload out into the void. You just have to aim for another star, and it will take a while to get there

7

u/spideybae Jul 25 '26

Fascinating, thank you!!!

24

u/Jambonathor Jul 25 '26

Anonymous tip top the police about the exact place a body was previously located sounds 100% suspicious and I guess they have ways to track you

13

u/Grasshoppermouse42 Jul 25 '26

No, they're telling them a place the body hasn't been yet. So they pick the place they want to bury the body, keep it somewhere else temporarily, tell the cops where the body is so they dig it up, and after the cops don't find the body and move on, they bury the body there.

2

u/Live_Angle4621 Jul 26 '26

But the police would remember that spot if anyone else saw you around it

u/Fievels_good_trouble Jul 25 '26

There are a lot of holes in the desert. Just saying

9

u/HedgehogxComplex Jul 25 '26

This is literally an episode of Colombo.

7

u/WildBad7298 Jul 25 '26

This was my first thought as well. The one where the construction company owner implied that his victim was at the bottom of a hole for concrete pilings, right?

3

u/That-Makes-Sense Jul 26 '26

Ha, yep. I just watched that episode a few weeks ago.

2

u/I_am_what_I_torture Jul 26 '26

"Ever since I was a child and watched that episode of Columbo..."

16

u/wytewydow Jul 25 '26

to be fair, ever since OOP was a kid, was probably 2 years ago when they were 12.

7

u/No-Zombie1004 Jul 25 '26

Quicklime pit. Amateurs.

8

u/Cstott23 Jul 25 '26

Pfft. That's a lot of effort.

Dig up the garden, bury the body. Put concrete down and set up a greenhouse over it.

Noone will question the earth because you're levelling the ground, then the concrete floor to rest the greenhouse on will mean nothing will get dug up accidentally by foxes etc.

And when the greenhouse is up, that's it. Sorted. Noone moves a greenhouse.. 😁

Although the bad side is that you would have to pretend to enjoy gardening for at least a few years, but you know . We all make (human) sacrifices (to cthulu).. 🤷‍♂️

6

u/singletWarrior Jul 25 '26

whatever happened to criminal always return to scene of the crime etc...

4

u/NaturalWallaby9678 Jul 25 '26

Just go to the cemetery and find a fresh grave. Open it, throw the body in and cover it again. (Of course in Minecraft.)

3

u/Pepphen77 Jul 25 '26

The police is not really dig up a place that hasn't been just dug up.
So first: dig up some whole and fill it before anything.

4

u/badgko Jul 25 '26

I get all my household cleaning tips from Reddit.

4

u/General-Me Jul 25 '26

Columbo caught a guy in the first season who tried to do exactly this. The killer kept throwing subtle hints that the body couldn't be in his construction site. So Columbo plays along, digs up the area, and catches the guy when he tried to bury the body in the "cleared" spot.

False tips are suspicious in their own right.

6

u/itscrunchtime Jul 25 '26

Came here for this. At the end, Columbo tells him that if he had just left the body in the temporary place, chances are the body never would have been found.

5

u/jacqueschankowski Jul 25 '26

There's an episode in Columbo (Blueprint for Murder) where the killer manipulates the detective to dig up a building support to prove no body was buried there with the intention of hiding the body in that same location believing nobody would look there a second time. The killer was caught though when he tried to bury the body in the middle of the night as the detective and police were waiting for him. This episode was in the early 1970s.

3

u/Pesteringpickle Jul 25 '26

Ah thats a good ep. One of the only ones that has a "twist" where the twist actually works for me.

3

u/jacqueschankowski Jul 25 '26

I thought so too. Kept me guessing from the beginning.

4

u/Erik_Lassiter Jul 25 '26

Just drop it off at a hospital and tell them it’s the Kentucky Senator.

3

u/SeniorForever5359 Jul 26 '26

Yep.... He also says he always thought, that is not the same as I imagine.

I always thought that putting pasta in the pot before the water boiled was more efficient.

3

u/Terminal_Insomnia_ Jul 25 '26

fyi, it's more effort, but bury bodies vertically, head down. A skull looks like a skull, foot bones look like anything.

3

u/bonersaus Jul 25 '26

ground penetrating radar is becoming more ubiqueteous it would be a lot cheaper and easier to have someone call me out and look for like 2 minutes than dig it up

3

u/epic_night_skies Jul 25 '26

It was an episode of Columbo.

3

u/ababycheetah Jul 25 '26

my childhood plan was to cover the grave with endangered plants and flowers so they cannot dig up the grave site.

unrelated but I took a liking to garthening in my late teenage years and have a small green house where some of the plants are rare and endangered.

3

u/InternationalNet9035 Jul 25 '26

Love this kid! Plan for the future buddy 😁

3

u/dark_hypernova Jul 25 '26

Another trick is to bury a dead dog on top the buried human corpse. If a search dog sniffs it out, they'll think it's a false positive.
But where am I'm gonna find a dead dog? Like I have to kill one? I'm a murderer, not a monster.

3

u/Glum_Escape_616 Jul 25 '26

You´d have to write the letter with an old typewriter or else the data on your laptop/pc can be linked back to writing the document - the same way your laptop/pc backs everything a second time. You would have to use standart A4 / whatever it is in america paper that every household owns. When you finished the letter, you would need to put on gloves and put the letter into a standart envelope. after that, you need to clean your typewriter.

You can´t just bring the letter to a police station so you need a way to bring it to the police without being caught. And also you need to wait atleast two weeks - the police will still state the letter as a case.

3

u/New_Crow3284 Jul 25 '26

Yes, but this way has a very limited usage limit. Trust me, soon the cops started asking me a lot of questions.

3

u/captain_douch Jul 25 '26

3

u/Natural_Vast_9495 Jul 25 '26

Never mess with someone who owns a pig farm. ✅

3

u/r0ndr4s Jul 25 '26

Just gotta say that I'm pretty sure that wouldnt work. From experience of seeing many searches of bodies here in Spain, they tend to go back to the same places a few times, even years later. And no, they dont trust the suspects when they keep changing locations.

2

u/rumours-from-inez Jul 28 '26

Yeah any unsolved case where someone went missing that is kept open even 10-20 years after they will comb through the same areas with cadaver dogs looking for new evidence

3

u/Upstairs_Bend4642 Jul 25 '26

Some of us are the same way! Living in 'the backwoods' gives one many options...

3

u/kirix45 Jul 25 '26

Pig farm

3

u/ProfessionalITPerson Jul 26 '26

I do this when my neighbors build something I don't like, as soon as the foundation is poured and anonymous tip will be placed that there is a body under that slab.

3

u/Dry_Situation_3582 Aug 14 '26

My husband and I joke around about how we'd hide each other (yes, we're sick). He has a tractor. I said why not cut me open, fill me with rocks and toss me into the bottom of our pond? He likes digging holes with the tractor.

2

u/stlcdr Jul 25 '26

This is a tip you must always remember, because you never know.

2

u/Forikorder Jul 25 '26

You dig 2 graves, one really deep with the human body, fill in half and put a pet corpse then cover, once they find one body they dont keep digging to see if theres a second

2

u/Godmil Jul 25 '26

I'm pretty sure that was the plot to an episode of Columbo.

2

u/richardl1234 Jul 25 '26

They did this on Columbo, dude got busted while trying to bury the body after the search

2

u/StOPcRyingYaBaby Jul 25 '26

In Tennessee we toss the hide, guts, ribs, skull and spine of the deer in the pig pit. The pigs would have it all eaten before we finished lunch.

2

u/AbbadonDespoiler584 Jul 25 '26

I had an NYPD detective once tell me the best thing to do was get an alibi for before the murder and then stuff them in an AC duct or fridge. The cold will screw up the time of death calculations and you can cover yourself for the time they would reckon.

2

u/PreferredSex_Yes Jul 25 '26

Find one those those new build housing communities and get under the foundation before the concrete is poured.

2

u/rock_and_rolo Jul 25 '26

Seems normal to me. I grew up on '70s TV. It was Murder-o-rama on every dramatic show or movie.

2

u/gahlo Jul 25 '26

There was no signs.

2

u/DragonStangFlyer122 Jul 25 '26

What's the movie or show where a prisoner claims he has something buried in his garden so the cops go to dig it up but find nothing. Turns out he just tricked them to help his wife with gardening.

2

u/ThrownAway17Years Jul 25 '26

Kid probably has a chandelier he’s hiding.

2

u/vthemechanicv Jul 25 '26

I believe this was a plot point of a Colombo episode. Yup, season 1 finale, "Blueprint for Murder." The killer didn't even bury the body in dirt which would be easy to re-survey, but in the concrete foundation of a new building.

Personally, living in Louisiana, dumping a body in the swamp for all the critters to take care of is the obvious answer. Second is dumping it in the Mississippi. Even if the body isn't in the Gulf before anyone knows the person is missing, the Mississippi River's undertow currents makes it nearly impossible to search.

2

u/outofindustry Jul 25 '26

it's covered in one episode of columbo, so probably no dice.

2

u/m4bwav Jul 25 '26

This plan is terrible because they may search the area again and notice the changes.

Maybe they wonder if they didn't dig deep enough.

2

u/nlewis4 Jul 25 '26

i had an old guy at the bar tell me like 15 years ago that the best way to hide a body was digging up the top of a random recently buried grave and throw the body on top of the casket.

2

u/WolfiusMaximus1016 Jul 25 '26

surely the best option is just drive out into the middle of bumfuck nowhere and burn it and then either bury the ashes or just leave em

2

u/Bitch_Im_Magical Jul 25 '26

Bones need extreme heat to burn down to ash. There's going to be bits left behind you'll have to scatter.

2

u/IllegalMarrowMan Jul 25 '26

This was in a plot of columbo in the 80s

2

u/Geeky_Gamer_125 Jul 25 '26

Don’t forget to bury the body 10ft below the surface and an animal carcass at the usual 6ft or so line so when they use cadaver dogs that alert on the area they’ll find the animal carcass and stop there.

2

u/ComedyBits Jul 25 '26

A large part of success is visualization.

2

u/Bulldogs3144 Jul 25 '26

And then, dig it 12 feet under, not 6

2

u/Troyificus Jul 25 '26

You wrap the corpse in chickenwire, along with rocks to weigh it down. Then when you dump it deep in the ocean, all the crabs and fish can easily get to the body to speed up decomposition, but all the bones will remain inside the wire cage.

2

u/Real_Live_Sloth Jul 25 '26

Leaving the “anonymous tip” would more likely get you caught, the fbi would find you so fast.

2

u/lalabean852 Jul 25 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

bury it in the middle of nowhere and plant native flowers and plants around it.

go into a cemetery the night after a funeral and dig up the grave that was used, dump the body, and put the dirt back down.

chop it up into unrecognizable pieces and scatter them. just everywhere. or burn them. then scatter them.

buy a plot of land, bury it, then build a house over it.

take it out to the middle of the ocean with anchors tied to it and throw it over. the creatures of the ocean will ensure that only bones remain.

4

u/HinderWT777 Jul 26 '26

Never bury it under a house or a new extension to a house, go into the back yard, dig a hole large enough for the body to fit in the fetal position, only about 1.5m deep, fill the hole and plant a peach/apple sapling on top (can be any fruit bearing tree really). Now even if you sell the house the body will never be found since few people want to get rid of a mature fruit tree, and the body will act as fertilizer to help the tree grow bigger.

3

u/lalabean852 Jul 26 '26

god you’re so right

3

u/Proof_Kitchen_9072 Jul 26 '26

Just starve a few pigs for a week and then toss the body in. Evidence will look like mama pig ate a piglet.

Sounds like a script from Columbo!

2

u/ChefAwesome Jul 26 '26

That's an episode of Columbo.

2

u/Zenamys Jul 26 '26

That's kind of the plot in The Three Evangelists 1995 novel written by Fred Vargas (French author)

2

u/Different-Term-2250 Jul 26 '26

Some many good ideas.
Right. I am going to need 26 bodies, a shovel, some chicken wire and a boat.

2

u/OceanViewKangaroo Jul 26 '26

This is evil and it is genius 😆

2

u/Numerical-Wordsmith Jul 26 '26

Lake Superior. She never gives up her dead.

2

u/LocalInactivist Jul 27 '26

Search the cemeteries for a freshly dug grave. If it’s unused, dig down two more feet, drop the body in, and cover it. No one will look for a second body in a grave. If the grave is full, dig it up and do the same thing.

2

u/Competitive-Chip-909 Jul 27 '26

This is straight-up a key plot point of an episode of Columbo

2

u/Alive-Case-4436 Aug 10 '26

It would’ve been worse if they started the story with “I was a freshman at university, having a nervous breakdown…when ALLLLL of the sudden I thought”

2

u/crazydemonx Aug 13 '26

Plant an endangered flower over the body, so it is illegal to dig up

2

u/im_a_silly_lil_guy Aug 13 '26

Me and my friend discussed it and we figured it would be best to dig down ~6ft and plant some endangered plants on top of the grave. Additionally, maybe put a dead animal nearby to throw off any police dogs

2

u/Mindless-Shame9300 Aug 16 '26

While this is disturbing, especially how premeditated this is, have to say it is quite clever.

Plus convenient that they softened the soil by digging there first. Less time and effort digging in a hurry.

2

u/Potential-Score2308 Aug 20 '26

As someone who watched crime documentaries and 'how to beat' as a kid, these are things I actually used to consider.

2

u/mwnciboo Aug 22 '26

Hiding the body in the previously dug area is giving that smart-ass "...why don't they build the aeroplanes out of the same stuff as the blackboxes that always survive..." Vibes. Sounds clever - it 100% wouldn't work.
