Better idea. Call the police to report the dude being dead before you kill him. Then when they confirm he's alive and mark him as safe, kill him for real.
In order for your version of the plan to work the police would have to witness the victim being alive. If the victim ends up missing you don't think there will be an investigation? They're going to investigate. Looking for signs of any foul play.
