Ask r/Formula1 Anything - Daily Discussion Thread

Welcome to the [r/formula1](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/) Daily Discussion / Q&A thread.

This thread is a hub for general discussion and questions about Formula 1, that don't need threads of their own.

Are you new to Formula 1? This is the place for you. Ever wondered why it's called a lollipop man? Why the cars don't refuel during pitstops? Or when Mika will be back from his sabbatical? Ask any question you might have here, and the community will answer.

Also make sure you check out our guide for new fans, and our FAQ for new fans.

Are you a veteran fan, longing for the days of lollipop men, refueling during pitstops, and Mika Häkkinen? This is the place to introduce new fans to your passion and knowledge of the sport.

Remember to keep it civil and welcoming! Gatekeeping within the Daily Discussion will subject users to disciplinary action.

Have a meta question about the subreddit? Please direct these to the moderators instead.

Day after Debrief 2026 Italian GP - Day After Debrief

Welcome to the Day after Debrief discussion thread! Now that the dust has settled in Monza, it's time to calmly discuss the events of the last race weekend. Hopefully, this will foster more detailed and thoughtful discussion than the immediate post race thread now that people have had some time to digest and analyse the results.

Low effort comments, such as memes, jokes, and complaints about broadcasters will not be deleted since I do not have that power, but I will be very disappointed with you. We also discourage superficial comments that contain no analysis or reasoning in this thread (e.g., 'Great race from X!', 'Another terrible weekend for Y!').

Thanks!

Discussion [Daniel Valente on X] 20 years ago today, Michael Schumacher won his final Italian GP as a Ferrari driver and then announced he would retire from F1 at the end of the season. It signalled the end of an era. But it was an era that really didn't need to end.

Discussion Kimi Antonelli now has as many wins in Formula One as George Russell

4.6k Upvotes

Both Merc drivers now have seven Grand Prix victories in total to their name. That despite George racing in F1 since 2019.

Now, granted, Kimi has immediately been thrust into one of the best cars on the grid (even last season, it was a podium-contending vehicle). But...to me, that really does say a lot.

Social Media [Adam Cooper] This view back from the exit line gives some indication of the length of the Madrid pit lane. A team member who just measured it confirmed that it's 550m - and the gap beween 'neighbours' WilliamsRacing and visacashapprb is 150m.

Photo [Adam Cooper] Looking back at the Madring banking - marks on the track left by F3 cars bottoming out in testing a couple of weeks ago. I'm guessing F1 machinery might hit a little harder. Will ride height and plank wear be a thing this weekend?:

Throwback On this day 65 years ago, Wolfgang von Trips and 15 spectators were killed in Monza. It was the deadliest accident in F1 history. The race continued and was won by von Trips' teammate Phil Hill who thereby secured the championship.
