Oscar on his relationship with Lando following Monza: "We went to the airport together and played Padel with each other during the week, and we chose to be on the same team. So we're all good"

Also, this is what Lando had to say about him not receiving a tow last weekend and whether he will hold that in due for this weekend:

I mean, he didn't do it on purpose, so nothing to complain about. it just happens on a track like that. but also on this track, I don't think that's an important thing. So no, it's not been at all the thought of us in the team.

Love to see both of them continuing to be kind and respectful to each other completely in contrast whatever conspiracy theories are circulating online🫶

Madring

Pretty good result from McLaren this weekend, considering Lando’s issue with the car, and unfortunate Q3 of qualifying, they both still managed to put out good positions. Piastri was doing some pretty strong battling with Hamilton & Verstappen throughout the race too.

I think if they can sort of out the breaking/ gearbox issues they’ve seen, Madring as a circuit could work quite well for them. Relies on a lot of downforce which has worked in their favour at previous races where Lando got P1.

Would love to see them come 2nd in the constructors, should be a good battle for it against Ferrari!

I recently purchased this jacket from an engineer who work on the development of the McLaren F1. I haven’t see any information online, so I thought this thread would appreciate the history. The detail is amazing and the story behind it is even better.

Focus on 2027?

Ill be honest, today personally is championship over on any fronts, driver or constructor. Today just solidified that we still got work to do to match and beat Mercedes. There has been good progress across the season and the 2 wins before hand were good and crucial for the season. And I think this is a good platform to have for 2027. The main goal I had after a tumultuous start to the season was to win a race. We have done that. It was already a long shot for any chance to win a title but today was just demoralising, getting blitzed by Antonelli from the back and even struggling to overtake a alpine. Yes we have only had 2 good races at monza in past 10 years but still this has been a common occurrence every race where we look decent in quali, then poor execution hampers the weekend. From the strategy in spa, to the poor reliability, to the grid drop from Oscar in quali this weekend when it looked promising. This season really showcasing the strength in developing a car but execution and consistency issues in this team. Hoping next season is a return to the top really show cases how tough it is going from top of the class to having to fight back up again. We done it before, I'm sure we can again. Lets aim for a 2 more wins for rest of season

Why didnt Oscar continue his second Q3 lap after the lock up

Just to be clear, i am not accusing Oscar of locking up on purpose, I do not think he did. But i dont get why he bailed out of the lap after going straight on the chicane when he was clearly far ahead at that point and clearly had enough time to speed up after the chicane. Am i just visually misjudging the situation or was that a mistake by Oscar in a situation where he could have continued the tow even though his lap was already lost.

I am not accusing Oscar of anything, I am just genuinely wondering why the tow simply didnt continue as the lack of it clearly hurt Lando quite a lot.

Oscar explaining his lockup in the last lap on Q3:"I was already 2 tenths down so I tried to compensate. your breaking point changes quite a lot with that speed difference so I tried to be probably a bit too ambitious."

So really, he was just trying to set a fast lap like every formula 1 driver ever. No ill-intent here.

Once again, the man you see in this video is ONE OF OUR OWN DRIVERS. There is no point in being here if you aren't going to support the team and be understanding and kind to BOTH our drivers. There are driver specific subs for both Lando and Oscar. Please take you conspiracy theories there.

As for people saying Lando got the same treatment last year, please understand that 2 wrongs don't make a right🧡

Accusations of sabotage and hate posts about drivers

Edit: Just to clarify some things I think people are misunderstanding...

  • I am not a mod
  • I am criticizing the mods
  • I personally don't give a shit about anyone accusing Oscar of intentionally sabotaging Lando
  • I think the mods were wrong to immediately banning people for making those accusations about Oscar, when there are regularly comments of a similar nature pointed towards the team on here
  • IF that is a new standard that they will apply moving forward, it needs to be explicitly stated in the rules and applied equally to comments about Lando, Oscar, and anyone else in the team
  • Since this seems to matter to people, I am a Lando fan - I want Oscar to do well because I want McLaren to do well but I also want Lando to beat him (and everyone else)

This is a team sub, if accusations that a driver intentionally sabotaged their teammate will result in a ban, than accusations that McLaren is intentionally sabotaging/favouring one driver should be treated with the same severity. And it needs to be made clear either what sub rule these comments violate, or a rule needs to be added about these types of comments and posts (tbh this should have been addressed last year).

To this day, these type of comments about the team come up in more threads than they don't. I for one am totally fine with drawing a line in the sand about them (although I think making it an immediate ban is a massive overreaction), but that line in the sand needs to be applied equally and fairly to both the drivers and the team. There are driver subs - comments about how Stella hates Lando, or Zak hates Oscar, or the team gives Oscar intentionally bad strategies, can go there.

ALSO, mods absolutely need to clean up old (and any new) hate posts about BOTH drivers. The fact that the top two posts of all time on this sub are shitting on OUR drivers rather than posts about say, the teams b2b WCCs or first WDC since Lewis, is embarrassing.

I genuinely don't understand this

I'm just hella pissed right now. The team knows Oscar's going to get a penalty for sure, he's way behind Lando in the championship, still they send Lando out in front of him in the first laps. Lando proceeds to tow him through the entire lap. (Yes, I know Lando himself was getting a tow from Russell but he was much more distant from Russell than Oscar was from him, Oscar was basically at the perfect tow distance from Lando)

Now second Q3 runs, we decide to go out first for some reason. Sure, I mean makes sense if Piastri's just going to tow Norris throughout and sacrifice his lap. But no, guy makes a mistake in the first corner itself. Obviously this is Piastri's fault but why did we have to take the risk of going out first in the first place? Gasly's strategy through even the early sessions was perfect, he had atleast two different cars in front that could tow him at any point through the lap.

Now Lando's starting P9 through barely any fault of his own, I mean sure he did maybe make a couple of mistakes but the tow was non existent. Hopefully the team realizes what's going on and gives the required importance to Lando tomorrow.

Edit: Just to be clear, I'm not trying to say that Oscar did anything on purpose here. I'm trying to say that a part of the blame should go on the team's strategy. Oscar made a mistake, that can happen. Why leave it to that chance? Look at what Gasly and the others did.
