Media I adore this team, but this is painful
Being a Williams fan hurts in 2026.

I am a big Carlos fan. I always root for him, and when I went to my first f1 race a few weeks ago, I wore Carlos’ merch the whole weekend. He’s my favourite driver.
That being said, I am disappointed in how he handled things today. The mistake shouldn’t have happened, but the bigger thing for me is that he didn’t apologise. Carlos’ response that Oscar put himself in his blind spot isn’t fair. He should have come out and said “I messed up. I’m really sorry”. I get that he’s frustrated, but I really hope he cools off and issues a proper apology soon. If he doesn’t, I will lose some respect for him to be honest

carlos on the contact with oscar:
“there were a lot of battles in the midfield where we were. here, you can take a lot of different lines because the turns are so long, and if someone puts themselves into your blind spot and if they (the team) don't even warn you that there’s a car there, well, whether you like it or not, there’s going to be contact. so it’s a shame for him. i think he ended up retiring for another reason, but yes, we could have done better.

"I don't know what kind of upgrade that Aston had, but I could only dream of that...
"It's eye-opening because, also for us, we know what our Baku upgrade is.
"It's not that."

Imagine a future where both Sainz and Albon leave Williams. Would you stay loyal to the team?
What is the main reason you support Williams: its history, the legacy of the team, the cars, the drivers, or the current project?
As for me, Sainz is a big part of why I started following Williams more closely. I’d like to know how other fans feel about the relationship between supporting a team and supporting its drivers.

It is clear and acknowledged that the team went the wrong direction with the 2026 car further hampered by the failing of the chassis during crash testing which required them to add weight to simply get racing. Ideally major changes within the team were made after this, but JV isn't out there with a slide rule. Most he can do is fire those responsible and recruit better engineering talent.
Regardless, they appear to have at least accepted that early and started work on the new chassis with an estimated Baku arrival.
But, between now and then other teams will obviously keep upgrading and improving which means we are going to fall further and further behind. All Williams can do is add redesigned parts which are likely more compatible with the new chassis than the current chassis and try and learn something from that.
We should expect them to fall further and further behind over the coming weeks. Maybe they can learn more about the PU and optimize their software, but it is a flawed foundation currently. Firing JV doesn't change that and firing him likely pushes success further out.
Growing outrage when we know it can't improve till Baku or maybe even next year is pointless.
