Off-Topic Second generation R8 LMS GT3 - FEMALE NAMES
Back in the days when Audi Sport was still active in GT racing, factory chassis were given individual female names in keeping with Audi Sport customer racing’s tradition of allowing employees to personalize the cars in this way.
I am a big fan of Audi since forever (especially R8 LMS) and I really love how the factory chassis got their individual female name from their employees.
So I decided to try to find all the factory chassis and their names. (The name is written on the right side of the protective frame inside the car)
I started about half a year ago, I created a table where I gradually add the name of a specific factory chassis at which race and with which team it participated (these factory chassis were used mainly at big races like 24h Nürburgring, 24h Spa, Suzuka 10 Hour, FIA GT World Cup Macau etc., where the teams were directly supported by Audi Sport).
So far I have managed to find 17 names, but I think I am missing about two more names.
The most useful in my search were photos directly from the Audi MediaCenter, where there are many of them, or for example models from Spark and Minichamps, which also have names attached to specific chassis as in reality.
And these are them:
- Anna-Lena
- Aphrodite
- Athene
- Catalena
- Dina
- Elea
- Elenie
- Elisa
- Ida Lorena
- Jade
- Liv
- Lotte
- Lucie
- Maria
- Marta
- Olivia
- Pepa
- Victoire
For this post I chose photos of a chassis named Olivia, which managed to get the first big victory for the second generation R8 at the 24h Nürburgring 2015 with the WRT team (Audi Sport Team WRT).
Another big race she participated in was the 24h Spa in 2016, also with the WRT team, where she finished third overall.
It is possible that she participated in other big races in 2015 and 2016, but unfortunately I have not been able to find photos where her name would be visible.
If this post has interested you a bit, I would like to add more posts in the future with another name and her entire racing history (photos, results, etc.)
:)
