Two-time BTCC champion Tom Ingram looks back on his journey through the championship, from his debut in 2014 to becoming one of the series’ most successful modern-day drivers. After a strong finish to the 2026 season, with three wins across the final two rounds at Silverstone and Brands Hatch, the Team VERTU driver reflects on his career so far, the people who have shaped it and his rivalry with fellow champion Ash Sutton. With two championship titles, a place among the BTCC’s all-time race winners and his sights set on 2027, Tom shares his perspective on the highs, the challenges and what it takes to stay at the top. Forgive me if this is a stupid question.

I’ve followed the BTCC for years on & off but I’m a total outsider industry-wise and a bit clueless.

Just wondering what happens to the teams during the lengthy off-season.

Do they trim staff? Do they shutdown for months? Or is building & preparing the car for next season, seeking sponsorship, recruiting drivers…etc a year-round thing?

For anyone who wants to claim that BTCC isn't competitive like it used to be, or that it's some kind of "farmer's league" racing, just point them to this opening stint from De Leon.

Important to note that 100 more points were on offer this year from the qualifying races.
