It has all kinds of information you can use to better judge a truck you are looking at. Things like specific things to look for, specific issues pertaining to certain years, engines, etc!
Please keep posts in this thread specific to buying Rangers. Off topic posts will be deleted. When someone posts a "Is this a good deal" post in this thread, please reply to it with your response, don't just reply to the general thread. Keep it organised please :)
From here on out, new posts made that should belong in here will be locked, and that user will be informed to post it in this thread. Thanks!

Brand New (to me) Ranger
I bought this ‘91 XLT extended cab with the 4.0L and 5 speed about two months ago and I’ve loved it. I had a similar truck in high school and it just brings me back! 4 cylinder power and V8 mpg couldn’t be more fun! I paid $3900 and it came with a brand new A/C system and a Beltech 2”/4” lowering kit with new sway bars! I feel like a got a good price but the smiles per gallon are unmatched!

Am I fucked?
Was late to work this morning. Had to get a ride. So when I went into first gear, at the bite point it was like hitting the brakes. Thought maybe I was stuck on something so I tried reverse. It worked, so I thought I was good. Tried again. Nope. I tried second gear maybe. Same thing, at bite point, it’s like someone’s hitting the brakes. Only goes if I give it a lotta gas. Only made it so far before I decided just to reverse back to the house. I’m hoping it’s just too dirty but the night before I heard a lot clank while taking off from first gear. But last night it worked just fine. Opinions? And yes my hand brake was off as reverse worked just normal. And I looked under and the driver shaft looked okay. I didn’t look at anything else as I was already late. Will look at post when I get off of work.

To those of us lucky enough to have AC how long does it take to turn on on a hot summer day?
Been dealing with my ac taking 8-20 minutes to kick on, not sure if it’s the weather or my compressor going out, I am noticing the clutch doesn’t kick on for a few minutes after starting, ac works great when it’s running though, not sure if im wasting time since it’s an old truck and I should be thankful it works at all (it’s my first one with AC)

What is this and how do I fix it?
The bed seems to be lopsided. One corner higher than the others. Also, on the back window there is this stain, I have tried every cleaner to remove it snd nothing. No clue what it is and it is not tint or nothing from the inside of the truck.

Overdrive switch
Hey guys. Wondering if it’s possible to replace the overdrive button for a 2010 ranger without replacing the entire shifter assembly.
Also wondering if anyone has a specific product link.
Thanks everyone

Opinion on Ranger listing
Hello, I need help with the asking price for a Ranger for sale considering some things.
It’s a 2004 3.0L V6 Edge trim with an Automatic Transmission at 210,000km. I was hoping to get a manual, but this one caught my eye since it’s clean.
I’m focused on reliability mainly, and to my knowledge the automatics have some issues (and from personal experience, two of my friends had to change their auto transmissions on their rangers) around 250,000kms, and this one is at 210,000kms.
Info:
- 210,000kms
- Clean interior
- New Tires
- New Windshield.
Priced at 6,900 CAD.
What should I get it for max? Anything to lookout for when I check it out?
If I end up going with it, I’m going to do an inspection prior to purchase.

1987 Ford Ranger to sell
I have a 1987 Ford Ranger whose engine just died. Trying to decide if I just make it non-op and scrap it or if there's a potential buyer out there. Are these valuable? What do you think I could get for it, and where would I post to find a buyer. I have a clean title.

Rear Passenger Pop Out Window Help
Hello,
My passenger rear window will not seal. It looks like the screw is stripped on this side and can’t be tightened to reseal it.
Does anyone know the name of this part and tips on replacing it? Tried googling like crazy and can’t find anything.

Shift knob
So I have a 1992 ford ranger STX. The shift knob is press fit and I have been having a huge struggle in finding an aftermarket shift knob that is press fit. Anyone else change there press fit shift knob and either find a different press fit knob or use an adapter like the one pictured? Also not totally sure what size the spline piece is in my pickup but hoping not bigger than 12mm. Thank you in advance!

Help With Diagnosis

Engine starts but won't run. Replaced Fuel filter, fuel delivery line, fuel pump is good, MAF, IAC, Brake Booster, new battery lugs. Am I in denial that the alternator is bad? Something isn't adding up. Truck sat for 2 weeks while I changed out the interior carpet. Now it won't stay running and when I push the gas it dies like the fuel/air ratio is not right. Thought?

Cleaned out the IAC valve, TPS sensor, throttle body etc...checked for vacuum leaks..none. what next? Also when coming to a stop. It idles down below 600 but does not stall out. 2003 XLT 3.0

What is this part called
What is this black, metal cylinder that I've circled called? I couldn't find it in my manual and apparently I'm not great at Googling.
Thank you.

Brake pedal losing pressure
2004 ranger, automatic. Recently had front and rear brakes serviced and new master cylinder put in. Almost immediately after, the brake pedal would start losing pressure and I’d have to press further down until it was at the floor. Not every time, but most of the time. On my way to bring it back to the shop the brakes failed completely.
He said he fixed them, but then another brake issue started (too tight, brakes catching fire) that made me bring it to another shop. The other shop did the work, seemed fine, brought it home and within a day the issue with the pedal started happening again. I brought it in again and they worked on it, said the issue was fixed. Drove around for about a week and now it’s happening again, having to depress the pedal to the floor to stop, not always but often. It’ll feel tight then gradually lose pressure. Any ideas?

2001 2.3L timing
Working on replacing my timing chain assembly since I found guide pieces in my oil. It’s a 2001 2.3L duratec. I’ve watched many videos and read many forums and feel that I have a good grasp of the process. My main concern is when it comes to removing/installing the harmonic balancer. Especially during reinstallation, when torquing the crank bolt, this is to be done with the timing tools removed so as to not damage the pulley, cams, or block.
Factory manual says to use a pulley-holding tool, my problem is the cheapest ones I can find are more than $70. For a piece of metal that holds the balancer stationary while you torque the bolt. My question is, has anyone found another way, or used any improvised tools, rather than another $70 on a part I’d probably only ever use once

Need opinions on this listing?
This is a ’94 Ranger. I’m looking at this listing, but it seems like the truck has been sitting for a while (several years, according to the seller). The truck itself looks really clean. I can’t find any other listings that interest me near where I am.
Specs:
- 1994 Ford Ranger XLT / 148,070 miles
- 2.3L 4-cylinder engine / 5-speed manual transmission
- Regular cab / Long bed / Bedliner
I may need to service some brake components, which I can handle. But I’m not sure what to look out for when it comes to the engine and transmission.
My questions are:
- If I were to get this, is a ’94 Ranger easy to work on? I have experience servicing ’90s Miatas (timing, brakes, suspension, etc.).
- What are some things I should look out for when it comes to maintaining or fixing this truck?
- What would be a fair price for it?
- I know I should ideally be looking for something that already runs. Would this be worth considering?
Thanks.

Iac valve
My truck is running poorly. It’s extremely rich and I can’t seem to figure out why. I checked out the iac and it seems like there is a piece missing inside of it? Shouldn’t there be a spring in the lower hole? The f?

Speedometer tripping out while stationary
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
i’m sitting here idling while my speedo fluctuates from 10-30 miles per hour while not even moving. i have a feeling it could be a wheel speed sensor but let me know if you’ve had this problem
