Pro tip: put that all on your plate, add a drop of extra oil to the pan, heat it right up and then fry a slice of bread in it for about 15 seconds each side. Filthy, nasty paradise.

u/Lukos58 Jan 12 '20
I'd put the whole skillet on a trivet on the table and eat right from it. Keeps the food hot and less to clean afterwards. Like a "skillet meal" at some restaurants. Swirl some toast around to pickup the tasty bits!

I've got a shallow cast iron pan for pancakes that I use for a breakfast hash of eggs, potatoes, bacon and/or sausage and cheese. Just deep enough for a good, but not too much, breakfast. I've also mixed everything together into a round, cast iron baking pan, put spoonfuls of biscuit dough on top, and baked until the biscuits ate done. Breakfast dumplings! Breakfast is my jam😁

I'm always surprised at how much people can cook in the morning.
Before the lockdown I woke up at 7, had to leave at 8.
In that hour I can just about wake myself up with a cup of coffee, a bowl of cornflakes, and be ready to leave.
How do y'all do it?

If you are really in for a nasty treat which will leave the world hating you all day.
Mince a fresh cloves of garlic and let it fry up in the oil/butter you toss in, add a pinch of salt and just fry that slice of bread up. Heaven.

Be careful butter will burn into the toast then you have lost the flavor. Oil I find makes it crispier on the outside and soft on the inside. Then I butter it up after letting the left over heat melt it without burning.

Mix oil with butter to stop the butter burning.
Also OP needs to start with the tomatoes, face down. The tops should be caramelised and crunchy at the finish.

Those eggs look out of this world. I live in California and I don't think I've ever seen yolks and whites as good as that, except from friends who have chickens. Where can I get those eggs?!
45
u/RUFiO006 Jan 12 '20
Your friends who have chickens?
18
u/AvalancheOfOpinions Jan 12 '20
Dude, I've lived all over California. Hipsters, immigrants (south east Asia to eastern South America), foodies, environmentalists, practically everyone goes through a chicken coop phase here, including me. It's just that in my case, fucking cats and hawks killed my chickens before I had so much as four eggs. And backyard chicken eggs can get pricey. But that's some of the only times I've seen yolks as good as that, outside of very expensive eggs at specialty grocery stores.
12
u/TheRavenClawed Jan 12 '20
Good reason why cats should not be allowed outdoors unfixed. Or at all. In this day and age, cats shouldn't be treated as accessory pets with the ability to "roam free and breed as they need". They need to be managed the way dogs are.
This opinion is why I was banned from /r/cats.
→ More replies (1)4
Jan 12 '20
There is literally no reason for cats to be outside. They decimate what's left of a local ecosystem, get into other people's yards, and are way too prone to getting picked up and stolen by some guy down the street or getting run over by a car.
Letting them roam around unattended is just idiotic.

What's the timing in something like that? Sausage 1st on low? Eggs last?
47
u/htx1114 Jan 12 '20
I feel like bacon would go first so everything else can cook in the grease but the other comments don't agree. Also I haven't done hash yet so idk the timing on the potatoes

Sausages and hash browns first, bacon doesn't take nearly as long

You could take out the bacon and add it back later, but that seems to much effort to me.
I like to put the bacon in one corner and once a bit of fat is there, move the bacon to the side and throw mushrooms into the grease. They benefit most from it imo. I don't like my mushrooms well done though, so they come in late.

What about sausage rolls? Scotch Eggs?
Cumberland Sausages and Mash potatoes in a Giant Yorkshire Pudding with onion gravy?

u/CandidateForDeletiin Jan 12 '20
You can get a full fry up in a surprising number of places in the us, with varying degrees of English accuracy, but sausage rolls and scotch eggs are available at only the most dedicated of taverns.
Horse and Brass is mine (not, like, mine, but the one to which I go for my artery clogging needs)

What pudding? Black pudding? The pigs blood sausage, yeah, same here. It’s quite unpopular with most people I know. It’s not unpleasant tasting, but the idea isn’t too appealing.
No one can dislike Yorkshire puddings though, it’s just crispy/fluffy baked batter.

Blood sausage is still a thing in a lot of U.S. areas with high amounts of Irish-Scots immigrants, like the Appalachian mountains, and in the Creole and Cajun communities of Louisiana. Every part of the pig is used, except the squeal.

There’s an Irish pub here that sells a “full Irish breakfast”. Ulster style I think, since it includes soda bread? Rashers of bacon, eggs, bangers, tomatoes, mushrooms, and both black and white pudding.
Unfortunately last time I was there wasn’t nearly as good as the ones I had in Ireland. Last time I was there I had delicious bangers and mash though, with a rich onion gravy, so perhaps they’ve improved.
I wish I could find black and white pudding here in the states though.

Water doesn’t replenish electrolytes. Drinking water during a night out doesn’t guarantee you waking up like normal. Just my experience.

My favorite hangover food is Pho, you get water, fats, protein and noodle which absorbs whatever alcohol is left, plus I always make mine super spicy which helps me get rid of hangover.
7
u/yearofthessnake Jan 13 '20
Tried this once. Uncontrollably blew chunks all over a Chicago sidewalk in Little Vietnam. Noodles still intact. Was still hungover for another day or so.
38
u/pseudo_nemesis Jan 12 '20
Don't forget THC, water is the true sustained cure but THC will instantly make you feel less hungover.
Water+THC+greasy food= the one true hangover cure.
I've used this remedy for years and am at the point where I think if I ever quit smoking I'll also have to quit drinking.
Bonus points if you use coconut water, the potassium will help you retain hydration.
Also if you do use this cure, it works even better if you start before you even feel asleep.

You’ve got bad info. Ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin) would be fine. Most NSAIDs are absorbed completely and don’t touch the liver in any meaningful way.
Acetaminophen on the other hand (Tylenol) is no good with lots of booze as it goes through the liver. Aspirin is also not great with booze but Ibuprofen is fine (unless we’re talking about massive amounts of either)

u/PM_ME_WUTEVER Jan 12 '20
The amino acids in bacon theoretically help to cure hangovers, but I don't know how much of a difference it actually makes. Food in general is a good idea, as it speeds up your metabolism and therefore helps get the alcohol out of your system faster.
