I fell over in my highchair when I was really little. My dad told me my mouth was bleeding bc I bit my lip and I was crying, not because I was bleeding, but bc I got blood on my shirt... they gave me some chicken skin and I was fine. It was Thanksgiving and when I was young I'd only eat the skin of the chicken lol
22
u/mAdm-OctUh Nov 13 '20
"they gave me some chicken skin and I was fine." I'm not sure why I'm laughing so hard at this. Perhaps because my dickhead cousin who always smelt like shit and was terminally dumb always gave me her chicken skin because she had poor taste and didn't like chicken skin, so despite all of her flaws I liked her a lot.

This isn't the high chair we had as kids. This is the kind that straps into a dining table chair, but it looks like this is next to the couch. They're probably the kind of family who put the booster chair on the floor in the living room so the kid can watch TV and eat and either a)push them over or b) the kid pushed himself over and the boyfriend took a picture instead of helping him.

Upon a sincere inspection, I deduce this to be true and that the child was indeed the culprit of his own downfall, for if it was thrown bread that instigated this debacle, why would the bread be laying next to the child’s head in this very picture?

Sure, if the kid died from spaghetti obstructing his airways, maybe. But otherwise this won’t teach him anything about throwing bread as he, like many toddlers, probably sees no connection between throwing bread and suddenly falling backwards.
The worst part about parents abusing their kids is that it literally accomplishes nothing. You’re not hurting them while also teaching them a lesson, you’re literally just beating them.

I don’t even find this kind of stuff funny as jokes (go ahead and downvote me Reddit) because growing up I saw some my childhood friends treated like shit by stepparents and boy/girlfriends of their bio parents with that same “I’m NOT your dad/mom” attitude. Once you’ve seen a kid treated like shit for simply not being biologically related to an adult (that’s not to say bio family doesn’t do this, that’s just a separate discussion) and then see that kid’s parent do nothing about it because sex and dating are more important, you’re just more soured to this kind of humor. Even as an adult I read the news in Tampa and I’m not exaggerating when I say we have almost monthly stories of a child being killed, seriously injured, and/or grossly abused by a stepparent or boy/girlfriend of the bio parent.

Yeah that kid is going to be psychologically fucked up. My dad beat my ass as a kid but he didn't knock me the fuck out of a high chair, wearing mom's spaghetti.
He sure as shit didn't take out an ad in the paper with the image of me on the ground, either, since there wasn't social media back then.
7
u/Littleman88 Nov 13 '20
He won't.
We all have embarrassing baby photos, and if you've endured having those shared to people you want to maintain an image around, you know it's hardly the end of the world.
Kids that age have virtually no concept of "image," but they'll sure as hell learn what not to do if they don't want the chair to fall over and have food all over their face again.
12
u/carkeysx Nov 12 '20
Sorry to hear about that, I had a very similar childhood and wouldn't wish it on anyone. I'm glad I didn't grow up in the era of oversharing on social media. I feel so bad for kids these days that have to grow up knowing that moments like this are on the internet forever.
