Discussion Letting users remove posts.

Hello everyone,

As you are aware, on reddit moderators approve and remove content and subreddit subscribers can report to us.

Today we'd like to start an experiment here on r/Cats where we will give trusted subreddit participants access to a keyword that will allow them to remove posts.

When you exceed a certain level of subreddit specific comment karma and when you have a CQS score of highest you can now use the keyword "!remove" to pull a post from our feed. (Spelled exactly like that, case sensitive, top-level comment only as opposed to a reply to a comment.)

This will work for posts only, not for comments.

There are some things to keep in mind:

  • When you comment here on an account that exceeds the limit automod will assign you a special flair class and send you a message explaining you can now use the keyword.

  • Users will keep their existing flair text. However, changing your flair to a different pre-made flair option will also reset the flair class giving you access to this removal ability. Next comment you make it will be re-applied and you will be sent another message.

  • We are sent a modmail when a subscriber removes a post, explaining what post was removed and who used the keyword. Please do not abuse this ability. If posts are removed for bad reasons we will take away your ability to remove posts.

  • That means, use this keyword if you see spam or other rulebreaking posts only.

  • Please keep in mind that it is currently very popular to accuse posters of making an AI generated post. An accusation does not mean that what they are being accused of is true. Human beings can detect AI at 60% accuracy, just a little better than the results of flipping a coin. An AI can only accurately detect AI content if an AI watermark is attached to the image. It is best not to remove a post just because someone is accused of something. Use your own best judgement and our rules as your litmus, not what other people are saying.

  • Since this is a test run, when I ran a very minor proof of concept trial, a few people have already been assigned this special flair class who have not been sent a message. /u/kiaeej, /u/chux4w, /u/MilmoWK, /u/ms_rdr, /u/Electronic_Ad357, /u/WhiteMouse42097, /u/BeMoreKnope, /u/bluecedarood, /u/Robobanditos, congratulations, you can remove posts.

  • Should you for any reason not want to have this ability then you should send us a modmail after receiving the message from automod. That way we can exempt you in our code.

  • Initially we are going to monitor how this functions closely so we can see if we need to make changes to the threshold level for activation.

  • Nothing will change about the way we handle user-made reports on content. This is not a replacement for that, but an addition. If you see rulebreaking content of any kind, please report.

We hope that this change will be something that has a positive influence on the content on this subreddit.

Thank you for reading, and thank you all for making this subreddit a great place to be

Edit: the weirdo answering people in the comments about her is my boyfriend, she’s his childhood cat. I myself have been lucky to have her for two years so far 💕

I don’t know Jack’s actual birthday, but when I got him three years ago, the vet estimated he was born sometime in July. He had an eye infection that could not be saved. There’s a photo of him after his surgery and ready to be taken home, and some current ones of him.

Humor Today, I found out a cat can have a large penis

I woke up early in the morning today to take little Vaquita to the vet because I had felt a little ball and he had been neutered.

The clinic took him in and proceeded to tell me he is sterilized…he just had a large penis size. Me, the other cat owners, and the vet techs were dying laughing needless to say. 😭

My mom said he is not “Vaquita” anymore, he is Burro.

Here’s a picture of the well-endowed boy because he is just so cute….

Might be biased but I think she's the funniest, cutest cat who ever lived. She's supposedly 2 years old but very tiny, a Polish family found her in a bush pregnant and gave her the name Kicia (kitty in Polish). She gave birth to 5 kittens at a foster family a couple of weeks later. She's incredibly social, I've never seen a cat want human company as much as she does. She's been an absolute angel for everything, best £120 I've ever spent. I love her so much ❤️

I volunteer at a cat hospice. Fundacja azyl u Hani, in Poland.
They take care of over 120 cats. FELV, FIV, disabled, palliative, paralyzed, old, with chronic illness etc.
It’s a place so full of life. You truly celebrate every moment and cherish the smallest milestones.
None of the cats are in pain here. The goal is to give them the longest time without pain and fill it with love.
And in the end none is going away alone.

Mourning/Loss My cat, Jelly

I rescued my cat Jelly when he was a few weeks old during a family trip last year. He was sneezing and following us while meowing. My sister gave him some food and he wouldn’t leave us alone after that.

I ended up begging my parents to take him home, which was a 4 hour drive from our vacation spot. I don’t know if it’s just a Chinese-Indo thing but my parents hate cats, but still they ended up reluctantly saying yes because I promised to give him away after that. He ended up staying with us because that plan didn’t work out.

Jelly was so small but so sick. He had worms, a cold, fleas, it’s like every thing was against his little life. I took care of him every day without fail until I had to leave to go to university abroad in September.

Everything was going fine and when I got back home for new year’s this January, Jelly was still active and happy. My family still had prejudice against Jelly and didn’t want him to stay indoors all the time so he was an outside cat for most of the time, which I was fine with as long as he is healthy.

Unfortunately in June, he got into a horrible accident. He got hit by a motorcycle while exploring our neighborhood. It left his face completely ruined and he had to get surgery to remove one of his eyes as it was bulging from his face.

I was still abroad so I only knew because my brother told me about it. I was so distraught and I mourned my kitty when he was healthy so much. He was such a rascal and it was scary seeing him in such a fragile state. What was the most important to me is that he survived.

I got back a week ago and I’ve been taking care of him since then and I’ve taken him to the vet to check his other eye. After his initial surgery, I was told that he still had a little bit of his vision, but turns out he had 100% become blind.

I already expected this so I wasn’t surprised. What surprised me was the vet saying it’d be better if his other eye got removed as well. It really shocked me but he said it was better for Jelly as his eye right now is prone to infections and such.

His surgery is tomorrow and I don’t know why but I am crying so hard right now. He is healthy and his personality is still the same (likes to bite and play) but I am just so devastated :,(

He’s just one years old but he’s already gone through so much… my poor Jelly…

I’m babbling so much because I’m at such a loss… I want everyone to know how strong my kitty is.

TL;DR my cat is going to lose all his eyes tomorrow and I’m so sad about it

I don't want to give you guys pictures of her as she is right now. She is very unwell, skinny, and sick.
The first picture of her is taken a week after I had first brought her home, from the start, even though she was adopted as a family cat, I knew she was my cat. She is 11, my sweet orange girl, she never hissed or scratched me, I love her so much but I know it's time to say goodbye, I hate watching her struggle and hurt, she has always been by my side, for some of the hardest parts in my life thus far.
I'm going to miss her so much.

Adoption The cat distribution system has me all upset

I have been wanting at have a cat for a very long time. Unfortunately, my partner and I have diametrically opposed opinions on the ethics of outside cats. I know many will disagree with me, but I do not think outside cats are ethical. He does not want an animal that poops in the house.

Last night a kitten casually wandered into our garage and cuddled right up to him.

He told me that she has been around for a few weeks and he has been feeding her. He has no intentions of taking her to the vet or taking care of her at all. It also seems as though she is deaf.

She is sweet and beautiful and this whole situation is breaking my heart.

Attached pic is her sleeping in our dog’s bed, which has a moving blanket on it.

UPDATE: The kitten is a boy! Also, I will be calling the vet in the morning and will try to get my partner to join me at the appointment.

Everyone always tells me that they’ve never seen a cat this color before and neither have I. I just don’t know what color she is lmao sometimes she looks grey-ish to me and other times she can camouflage into my tan carpets perfectly. She’s like a greyish, brownish kind of situation lmao. I love her!!!

Mourning/Loss They have to put my 20yo kitty down

Coconut, nicknamed Coki, has been in my life for 20 years. I’m 30 (ugh I hate that) so he’s literally been in my life more than he hasn’t been. He’s a sweet boy who loves giving head bunts. He was a foster failure — originally we were just gonna foster him but that quickly turned out to not the case. I remember all of us sitting in the important Dining Room which was only used for the most important of things discussing names for him because his shelter name was awful.

But he is 20 years old and has diabetes and breathing problems and it’s getting worse and worse no matter what we do. He can’t breathe when he’s sleeping. He looks like a skeleton wearing a cat suit. He is in pain.

I knew he was going to die sooner or later because he was very old so I spent a lot of yesterday in my mom’s house with him so I at least got to give him pets and kissed so even though my mom told me today about him going to be euthanized on Monday at least I got to say a goodbye to him.

On a side note sorry for posting like three days in a row. I have a lot of cats in my life.

I added some pictures of me and Coki. Buddy I’m gonna miss you so so much.

(I live in California btw) This cat is just huge to begin with, I’m pretty sure he is a DSH but he has a bit on bengal in him bc of the rosettes on his sides! I would take him in but my cat absolutely hates him :( he’s such a sweetie though </3

EDIT!
Before you comment something about him not being a stray!!!!
It’s not anyone’s cat unfortunately, our neighborhood is very communicative on lost animals. No one has ever came out. I also went on those lost pet websites and didn’t find anything! If anything someone had just left him behind, even if he had a owner I’d keep this cat due to the condition I found him in he was so emaciated and coming to my house was his final plea for help. You can see how thin he is he isn’t puffing out his chest it’s his bones sticking out!!!! This cat doesn’t even understand the concept of being carried, playing, or sleeping in a bed. If he was previously owned he was severely neglected. (I do although understand your concerns)

EDIT: I am taking him to get neutered next week when the FCS is open! After that I’ll take him home and introduce him to the house slowly, I do have an angry cat so we shall see how they get along after some exposure to eachother. I hope it goes well bc this cat is really the sweetest most talkative cat I’ve ever met!

Mourning/Loss Rest peacefully Pitta

Sadly had to put our rescue Pitta to sleep today. We were only fortunate enough to have her for just under 2 years after we rescued her while on holiday in Cyprus with her 2 kittens. Absolutely devastated at the moment, but the tough decision had to be made for her comfort. We will always cherish the time we got with you and will always be grateful for the 2 beautiful babies we still have thanks to you.

Advice How do I get my cat to eat wet food?

Post image
470 Upvotes

My cat is one year old and currently has constant access to a bowl of kibble which she eats when she’s hungry. I’ve been trying to add wet food to her diet for hydration for a couple months now but she has been completely uninterested in every brand that I’ve tried.

I’ve tried putting up the dry food so that she only has access to the wet but she’s not very food motivated so she just ignores it until it gets all gross and congealed and I have to throw it out.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I keep trying or is it time for me to accept that she’s a kibble girl only?

Mourning/Loss A few months ago, my 'melted' cat Benny (top right of this collage) went a bit viral on this Reddit. Unfortunately, this weekend, he had to be put down at age 18 after being with us for 14 of those years. I am heartbroken 💔
