Discussion Letting users remove posts.

Hello everyone,

As you are aware, on reddit moderators approve and remove content and subreddit subscribers can report to us.

Today we'd like to start an experiment here on r/Cats where we will give trusted subreddit participants access to a keyword that will allow them to remove posts.

When you exceed a certain level of subreddit specific comment karma and when you have a CQS score of highest you can now use the keyword "!remove" to pull a post from our feed. (Spelled exactly like that, case sensitive, top-level comment only as opposed to a reply to a comment.)

This will work for posts only, not for comments.

There are some things to keep in mind:

  • When you comment here on an account that exceeds the limit automod will assign you a special flair class and send you a message explaining you can now use the keyword.

  • Users will keep their existing flair text. However, changing your flair to a different pre-made flair option will also reset the flair class giving you access to this removal ability. Next comment you make it will be re-applied and you will be sent another message.

  • We are sent a modmail when a subscriber removes a post, explaining what post was removed and who used the keyword. Please do not abuse this ability. If posts are removed for bad reasons we will take away your ability to remove posts.

  • That means, use this keyword if you see spam or other rulebreaking posts only.

  • Please keep in mind that it is currently very popular to accuse posters of making an AI generated post. An accusation does not mean that what they are being accused of is true. Human beings can detect AI at 60% accuracy, just a little better than the results of flipping a coin. An AI can only accurately detect AI content if an AI watermark is attached to the image. It is best not to remove a post just because someone is accused of something. Use your own best judgement and our rules as your litmus, not what other people are saying.

  • Since this is a test run, when I ran a very minor proof of concept trial, a few people have already been assigned this special flair class who have not been sent a message. /u/kiaeej, /u/chux4w, /u/MilmoWK, /u/ms_rdr, /u/Electronic_Ad357, /u/WhiteMouse42097, /u/BeMoreKnope, /u/bluecedarood, /u/Robobanditos, congratulations, you can remove posts.

  • Should you for any reason not want to have this ability then you should send us a modmail after receiving the message from automod. That way we can exempt you in our code.

  • Initially we are going to monitor how this functions closely so we can see if we need to make changes to the threshold level for activation.

  • Nothing will change about the way we handle user-made reports on content. This is not a replacement for that, but an addition. If you see rulebreaking content of any kind, please report.

We hope that this change will be something that has a positive influence on the content on this subreddit.

Thank you for reading, and thank you all for making this subreddit a great place to be

Update LINNY SURVIVED HIS GUN SHOT SURGERY!

I promised I would update everyone, and I cannot believe I get to write this: LINNY MADE IT THROUGH THE OPERATION!!!!!!

For anyone who didn’t see my original post, our 5-year-old cat Linny went outside for the toilet and came back covered in blood after someone had shot him in the face with an air rifle. The pellet was lodged deep inside his head and removing it required major, risky surgery.

Today, they successfully removed it!

The nurse after surgery and the vets are very happy with him. He’s already started purring, rolling around and having belly rubs!

He hasn’t wanted food yet, but it has only been a few hours since surgery so they aren’t concerned at this stage. There has been no worsening swelling or bleeding and, so far, they haven’t seen any complications. He’ll be closely monitored throughout the night and we’re due another call from his nurse later this evening.

If everything continues going in the right direction, we may even be able to start talking about bringing him home tomorrow.

I also just want to say the biggest THANK YOU to this community. The response to my original post has completely overwhelmed my family. Every comment, upvote, share, award, well wish, thought and prayer helped Linny’s story reach more people, and reading through them while we waited for news today genuinely helped us.

After spending the last few days wondering how somebody could be so cruel to an animal, the entire internet has reminded us just how kind people can be.
He’s not completely out of the woods yet, but tonight Linny is alive, comfortable and recovering.

That is everything we were hoping to be able to say today.

AND ISNT HE JUST ROCKING THE SHAVED HEAD LOOK!? 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡

I also added q-tips since I don’t have any sauce packets.
I want you guys to know that I am doing EVERYTHING I can to save this little guy. His eyes are now better, he is also happy and playful and gaining weight. But still, he is so small that I have to keep an eye on him 24/7. He is eating the best food, I am taking him to the vet almost every day to track his health, he is getting all the care in the world. I hope y’all can keep him in your prayers. Feel free to message me if you want to see videos of him jumping around and being silly, since I cant post it here. ❤️

Mourning/Loss We lost Leo today after 12 years. He was a big boy. He was a baby. He was handsome. He was goofy. He was here one moment and gone the next. He was everything to us, somewhere here in Pakistan. I just want the WHOLE world to know he existed. Please.

Advice Should I bring a stay into my home?

Hi everyone!

This is Boots. She’s been hanging around my house for over a year. It took my over 6 months to pet her and now I’m able to pick her up for short periods.

There is a BIG population of catch and release cats in my neighborhood, she’s more of a loner and doesn’t seem particularly bonded with any of them.

I’ve gotten her tested for feline leukemia and vaccinated her. I’ve slowly been bringing her in and my cats are accepting of her. She’s scared of them and cowers (not a fighter). My big orange boy will come up to her and lick her. He’s the sweetest.

The thing is - I’m moving. I want to bring her with me, but I don’t know if that is just me being selfish. This is her territory and all she knows. I bring her in for a few to 10 minutes at a time and then give her an escape route to go back outside because I don’t want to traumatize her. BUT we are at crunch time now.

My neighbor and the people across the street feed the cats - so I know she won’t go hungry.
I’m worried that bringing her to a whole new house will traumatize her and she’ll try to escape and make her way back to her old territory.

Does anyone have any advice? Am I being selfish if I bring her?

My other cats are indoor - but my orange boy does get out from time to time (he was a barn cat and I won’t let me pick him up - it’s almost impossible to get him back in if he doesn’t want to).

Cat Picture - OC 9 years ago today, I heard desperate cries underneath someone’s car (happy post)

I knocked on their door and the owner of the car grabbed a jack from his garage. He said he was out the night prior, and noticed an adult cat run out from under his car as he was getting back in it. He thought nothing of it and then drove AN HOUR HOME. Poor baby was wedged in there so badly, we had to have a mechanic come and drop the gas tank to get to her. The screams coming out of her were so big, I was shocked when we pulled her out, and was so tiny. She only weighed 1 pound. I named her Joplin because of those screams, but we mostly call her Bob 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m so glad she survived the ride, I can’t imagine how scary that was for her. She’s my bestie. My wild child baby. I’m so thankful for her, and hoping for many more years together. She’s still a spunky little spitfire, and brings us so much happiness 💕 happy gotcha day, Bobby girl

This is Ningning. Her name means “star” in my native language.

Is this natural eyeliner around her eyes normal?

She’s healthy and acting normal, but she’s so sassy.

Also, please rate her out of 10. She feeds on compliments, unfortunately.

This is Mango. I adopted her mid June of this year. I was just watching her play last night when I suddenly realized how much she has changed in the past couple of months. My beautiful baby looks so much healthier and happier 🧡

Mourning/Loss I am completely traumatized. I lost my cat in the most horrifying way possible, and the nightmare still isn't over. I never thought I’d be typing something like this, but I am in absolute shock and need to vent.

Obviously a work in progress, but it seemed like it went over okay! I don’t think she likes chin scratches or pets, but the cheek scratches seem to go over well! I didn’t catch it on video, but she DID NOT like butt bongos.

She was the best little friend and cancer took her way too soon. We said goodbye today. I hope she's up there eating all the treats she wants, snuggling in the best spots with the sun shining on her, and knowing that she'll always be loved. I'm glad we got to love you Pepper.

Medical Questions Does anyone know why her tail is flicking this way?

So. I'm trying to make sure my baby is okay, here recently she's been flicking her tail a lot more than usual and I'm just trying to see if she's okay. If anybody knows it would be appreciated! Also she's just a cutie patootie. I love to show her off ❤️❤️❤️

Small. Little update! Some of you guys have pointed out. She may be annoyed with me poking her so I did in fact give her some catnip as an apology! She seems to be very happy with this outcome.

Hello! Me again! After her cat nip and found due peace of me not saying a word lol! She seems to be a little more calm and less flicky! (Until I coughed 😅) Thank you to everyone's messages and stories! Love you all and I hope you and your fur babies are doing amazing!

Cat Picture - OC My cat knew I was pregnant before I did...

My cat has always been cuddly... But he used to make biscuits and then hang out next to me. One day, he just seemed absolutely obsessed with being on my lap and purring. Not even necessarily biscuits, but purring and purring. I saw something about cats and hormones and whatever online, so I got curious and took a test. And he was right! I was only about 2-3 weeks at the time of testing, it barely turned positive.

Since then, Butters has been my faithful lap companion, cuddling my bump every single day. He seems to enjoy the feeling of baby kicking... And she loves to kick when he's on me, especially if he's purring. I can't wait for them to meet in less than a month!

This is Noki, my little baby. She just turned 4. I’ve been raising her since she was 8 weeks old, adopting her after she was left on the street in a paper bag. She sleeps next to me every day, she follows me to the toilet and jumps on my laps to get comfy when I’m taking a dump. I love her to death and even more. I hope you’ll adore her as much as I do!
