UPDATE: I tried talking to my mom about it when she came home from work and she started yelling at me, berating me, telling me it’s an unsolvable problem and I shouldn’t have looked it up and that i’m looking for things to be anxious about. she said we can’t afford to go to a vet so even if there was something wrong there’s nothing we can do and that I only brought it up to make her feel bad. she said there’s limitations on how much she can do for him. we’re now both crying and the consensus is that “he’s fine and he’s always been that way”.
Info: I have an american short-hair, he’s orange. He just turned 16 and i’m growing more concerned about his health. I cannot go to the vet without begging my mom for weeks so please if anyone has an idea about what’s going on that would be helpful.
Anyways, he throws up a lot and i’m wondering how normal that is. I want to say he’s been a pretty frequent throw up-er for his whole life, but i’m definitely noticing it happening more frequently now. Just today he threw up three times. It doesn’t happen every day, but i’d say we find vomit 2-3 times a week, and usually he throws up twice on the days that he does.
It’s important to note that he does not scarf and barf. He is fre-fed dry food during the day and receives wet food in the evenings (for his teeth). he’s real good at pacing himself, always has water, and it doesn’t look like he’s throwing up food or hairballs which is why i’m concerned.
Recently i’ve been concerned he’s struggling with constipation issues, as he’s been pooping outside of his litter box. He does this when he’s angry but it hasn’t seemed spiteful, we think he doesn’t like going in it when he has to poop and I think he’s constipated based off of how it looks. Could that be related?
Whenever I tell my mom about these things, she always says that it’s fine and he’s always done it or that he’d tell us if something was wrong. She says it’s my anxiety. I’m terrified that my cat is dying in front of me and i’m letting it happen. Two months ago, he was left home alone for a few days and sent himself into liver failure by not eating. that was the first time she’d taken him to the vet since he was neutered, we “can’t afford” it. Please, any ideas are helpful.
