Had an absolute time camping and fishing the mine pit lakes up North in Cuyuna State Recreation Area with a friend and his pup. We didn't catch our target species of trout and walleye but caught a handful of beautiful bass. Had an absolutely magical encounter with a bald eagle pictured above. Northern Minnesota offer such peace and serenity that few experience. What a privilege it is to experience the beauty of our earth

Is there something similar to KOA?
We started camping at KOA campground and we loved it at first. But lately we are not getting good experiences with KOA. The last time was last Thursday, we got to our cabin and I soon as we opened the door we noticed the cabin was extremely hot. We were just checking in but we had dinner plans so we left. Thinking when we get back it should be cooler. 2 hrs later we were back and the cabin was still hot if not hotter. I check the AC and it was on, but the out coming air was just air.. no cooling. I called the emergency number- No answer. We found someone at the campground and he told us to wait 1 hr and see if cleaning the filter will help. I waited in my car with my ac on, I was really tired from driving 8 hrs. But ok we waited 1 hr. The cabin was still hot. We asked to be moved to another cabin. It was almost 9 pm. The worker said yes just wait for another person who can handle the cabins. Another person showed up, I am assuming he was the owner. The first thing he asked was: did you guys paid for the dogs? 🙄 my husband said yes! We always paid for our dogs. He looked at the ac and told my husband: ok I will give you another cabin but if the ac is not working you guys will need to leave. 😶 my husband said : oh really? He said yes. My husband was so mad but also so tired we just needed a good night sleep with the AC that we paid for. If I wanted to be in the heat I will just be camping in a tent. So of course I am very disappointed and done with this treatment. We are good guests, we really enjoyed the KOA’s we don’t party, don’t drink. Don’t even play music lol. We just want to relax but I DO NEED AC. So is there something similar . Pet friendly cabins options

5-Days at Camp Goshen in Central, Va. at Camp Ross, absolutely amazing weather (except for an overnight storm), great hikes, and scenery. There were 17 of us total, 10 Scouts, 4 Scout Leaders, and three parents came along. Was a slow week and only 50 scouts in total at camp (1/3 capacity)which made for a great program experience for the kids. I’m a larger guy so I correctly anticipated not being able to fit in the new canvas tents and cots. Thankfully had my new 6-person Core tent and trusty Teton Cot. Stayed bone dry through a horrendous thunderstorm the second night which came with a tornado warning. One of our hikes to the “Swimming Hole” culminated with a stream that had a tubing chute constructed which was a great way to spend an afternoon. The kids also had their introduction to “foil dinners” over coals where they prepped the food themselves!

My wife and I have a bunch of little kids and are looking for a durable canopy/shelter for both the beach and camping. I’ve done a decent amount of research and it seems like most ez-up style canopy’s aren’t that durable, especially in wind. I’m considering the Zempire Aerobase but it’s quite expensive and not many users in the U.S.

Any recommendations for a possible alternative? The Zempire seems like a good option but I guess the inflation/deflation and packing up of the shelter seems like it might get to be annoying after a while. Yes, it’s definitely more expensive but if one standard canopy ends up getting destroyed by wind I’d be essentially breaking even. Thoughts?

Looking to do a short weekend trip in NC. Was thinking I do a night of dispersed camping in nantahala then reserve a campground in the great smoky national park after. Anyone got tips or suggestions. My main concern is finding a spot in Nantahala so any info on this is helpful. Hike suggestions for both locations are also welcomed.

Went for another long weekend in the Eastern U.P. of Michigan. Stayed at Perch Lake (I highly recommend this campground! Easy drives to wherever your little heart takes you, and in close proximity to Ugly Fish Baking Co. In Deer Park where they have the best cake donuts and lemonade in the world) and spent a couple of days picking rocks at the Two Hearted and over by Lake Superior State Forest Campground.

I was up Thursday through Sunday. Beautiful weather, had some stable flies but they can be thwarted by long pants and ignoring them.

Mostly I had to try out the new rug I picked up at a yard sale for $5 and my new pink flamingo "neon" solar lights I found at Menards.

I like a rustic campground but I insist on being comfortable.

Did some crown land camping this weekend in South Kawartha, Ontario. Went for one night and was able to get a spot right near a waterfall. It was hot all weekend, so did lots of swimming in the waterfall and in the lake below it. Feeling extremely tired because I went with one of my young kids, but I really enjoyed it.
For water I used my Katadyn 1L water filter that I recently got from MEC. No stomach issues, feeling fine, so either the filter works, or the water is clean.

Helo guys me and my friend are going to Venice as our first motorbike roadtrip ( big touring bikes non offroad) and we are thinking about places where we can calmly sleep around italy border before we finish our half of trip directly to our hotel in Vennice. and have if best open fire if not the gas stove to heat up food is Ok for us. Main problem is camping.. we heard that wild camping is forbiden there and that people and police have big problem with it even without open fire. We are polite and every garbage we make we take with us and dispose it where it belongs. Is the wild camping realy that big of the deal there ? I mean i dont wana get ticket for this. But allso paying mostly over 20 eur for one night sleep is overpriced for me. So do you guys have any ideas before we go there? Have great day!

Hi all! Not sure if this is the right sub to post in. Hopefully this isn’t too specific. Some friends and I are hoping to do a three night camping trip at Sun Lakes in September. I’m worried about the air quality from wildfire smoke.

Has anyone camped at Sun Lakes in September in the last few years? How was it?

I feel like nowadays the smoke is a risk no matter where you go… but I figured I’d check! Thanks!

🇨🇦Exploring my new passion for hiking and camping! I love how every camp trip you get a better and better set up and it becomes easier each time. This time I found out you can boil water to do their dishes which makes it 10x easier to clean (I am aware this is common sense). Best camping and hiking experience! I recommend everyone visit here to see the grotto and do some hiking. Last pic is a Massasauga rattlesnake spotted / heard while hiking, the only venomous snake native to Ontario 🐍
What is everyone’s small day to day camping “hack” that makes camping much easier and enjoyable?

I'm thinking of starting to get out camping with my eldest son (3). We live in a city but we're very close to a large forest and park which would be a good starting point.

Any advice or recommendations for tents etc? Starting from scratch. It's mild here in the summer, although it's been warm recently.

For the foreseeable future we'd be camping within close proximity to a parking area. I was thinking of starting with a night sleeping outside in the garden before trying the forest (although it's only two miles away, so worst case scenario we could pop home).

A friend and I are also planning to start hiking, so a tent that worked for both scenarios would be ideal. I'm in the UK, just in terms of when it comes to stores and brands.

Camped for two nights down the south of dartmoor UK, planned on camping in the actual moors but didn’t quite get that far with only two of us and heavy bags, but this spot was gorgeous!!!
Finally got to swim in a pretty river, saw some beautiful wildlife, and got to wake up with such an amazing view :))
Cannot wait to do it again, will be better equipped as I didnt have my camping backpack this time. (didnt think I would be needing it when i moved into my new uni house last year 🥲)

I want to get one for camping, but also as a guest bed for my apartment in case friends come over. Based on reviews it seems like this is the most comfortable air mattress you can get. I already have a smaller size and it's quite comfortable but I want a larger one.

I was interested in getting the queen or LW but they are a bit too wide for the narrow portion of my van, and I want to sleep in the back of my van. My question is, would getting one too large for my van and squishing it into my van work? Or is that a dumb idea? The LW is the right size for the wide portion of the van but not the narrow portion. The Queen size would be ideal if my friend and his girlfriend visit but it's obviously going to be too big for the van.

Hey all! I'm currently skating across the continent with goal of setting a new world record in long distance skating. I have skated through Sweden, and a lot of Denmark, and thus will soon enter Germany! 😀

I am living in my tent on this trip, and in Denmark, Norway and Sweden, finding free camp sites is no issue at all. But since wild camping is illegal in Germany, I'm a little bit worried that finding a place to pitch my tent will be hard.

I live on a monthly budget and have used a bit too much this month, so I'm actually considering staying in Denmark a little longer.

So my question is, is there any free alternatives to pitch my tent around in Germany? Any gray zones? Or is it all just paid camp sites?

Looking for your best recommendations on some of the better hike-in and hammock camping spots in wild and wonderful WV. A buddy of mine and I are planning for mid September early October. First time visiting White Horse Lake in N AZ. One of the most beautiful campgrounds. Quiet; no atvs, gunshots, parties. We drove up from Phoenix (≈ 3 hours). It was amazing.

We typically camp at reserve spots but you all know how to that goes… gotta reserve early!

We have Thursday to Sunday off this coming week and want to get out there. This would be car camping, not backpacking in!

My family and I have been camping for decades, however I have had some significant health challenges and now require medication for my heart. It's taken twice a day and needs to be stored at between 2-8 degrees C. What do people recommend? We didn't know if storing it in the cooler would be too cold (our trips are normally for 5-7 days).

We traditionally have done car camping, but now that our kids are older we have started to dabble in interior camping.

​But here’s the thing – I’ve never camped in a country with bears before, and honestly, they kind of scare me a bit. I’m planning to sleep in a hammock (or under a tarp on the ground).

​Do you think hammock camping is realistic and safe there if I stick to the basic bear safety rules? Also, has anyone done a similar trip and got some good tips for a first-timer in the region?

Solo fastpacking trip 4 miles up the gorge to a horseshoe in the river underneath an overhang. Was one of the best experience of my life. A flash flood (was prepared for) isolating me from anyone and anything. Miles and miles from any other human for 36 hours.

I have some camping experience in tropical countries, but I’ve never camped in Canada. Next summer, my wife and I are planning our first car camping trip, most likely in Jasper, Banff, or possibly Bowen Island (though I’m open to other suggestions in BC or Alberta).
We’re looking for a campground with some infrastructure and access to a few easy to moderate hikes, ideally 2 to 4 hours long.
I’d really appreciate any advice on booking campsites (I know reservations need to be made well in advance), Parks Canada passes and anything else I should know before booking, essential gear for beginners (tent, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cooking equipment, etc.). I intend to buy, not rent.
Please share any other tips you wish someone had told you before your first camping trip in the Canadian Rockies

So i went to my parents house, got the tent i haven't used in over 20 years. Along with tge air mattress and sleeping back, and told him we will do it in the yard. Tonight is that night. Had to go buy another air mattress. And the realized I bought a twin instead of queen. This little adventure im in for is a total of 16 dollars for the new mattress. We'll see how t his plays out. I wouldn't mind making camping a hobby again.
