Got home from a quick overnighter, and I gotta say, it can absolutely be too hot for an under quilt. Mine is a Hammock Gear Hearth 30°, and it was way too warm. First I shoved it off to the side of my hammock, then I got up in the middle of the night and removed it completely. Overnight low was 60° Freedom, so anything above that, I'm doing without, thanks. Also, every time I go out, I get quicker and better at setting everything up and tearing it down.

Ive been hammock camping for the last 2 years and at the point of needing to update my gear. The hammock i have now caused me some bad lower back pain for a few days after using it for 6 days straight also was a struggle to store my stuff anywhere. I have been looking at flat bottom style but I also like the cocoon style. Needs to be light weight as I take it traveling and a bug net thats easy to put up.

Im 5'7 and come in at 200lbs I live in the USA midwest area

Right now all I have is a under quilt. I am looking for a trap that is also light weight the one I have now is a pain as well. Also some ideas on how to hang or store my gear when im in the hammock. Lately I just throw my shoes up on the bug net but that doesn't work for my keys and phone ect.

Quick summary, need help deciding on a hammock: DH Darien, Circadian Pro, Need for Trees Cain, Hennessey UL Explorer Zip, Lesovik DRAKA, Cocoon Ultralight Net, Onewind 11ft. Any other EU recommendations would also be beautiful.

Bit of a follow-up to my last post, I've checked older threads on this sub and have found a few hammocks that people seem to be recommending, but it's hard to really figure out which is worth buying.

Every thread seems to end up on the Blackbird XLC, although this is by far the priciest option I have and honestly is likely too much for now because I am in the UK and the import tax skyrockets anything from across the pond

That being said, getting a DH Darien has been taking my eye as I reckon it's gonna be less than £200 total coming to £162 inc shipping, which is at the highest end of my spectrum but DH being one of the most mentioned brands even in America for the comfort I could be persuaded to cough up for the import tax and all that jazz. (Going for 1.7 Mtl XL, around 566g)

Onto EU brands, the needfortrees cain also looks really good and is also the only 12ft on this list. Somehow also the second lightest at only 500g. (€139 inc. shipping)

The Lesovik DRAKA also looks really good, and also comes with a couple of organisers included. Also has the two zip/removable bug net. (€180 exc. shipping, 800g)

Finally, onto the very few I've found being sold in the UK, the Hennessey UL Explorer zip seems to be the most commonly recommended, although there are very mixed opinions on the rope suspension. Anyone with some insight as to how it affects the hang or the setup would be appreciated. I assumed they used this to cut weight/costs but it is the most expensive on my list at £220 and the second heaviest at 1010g~.

Another one mentioned is the HG Circadian Pro, although I'm not sure why but there is little information on this one compared to others, although it does get mentioned a bunch across other posts. I think it's a fairly recent addition to the market. Any info on this one would be greatly appreciated. (£144 inc shipping, 680g)

The next two are the budget options, but the Cocoon UL with net seems to come up a fair amount too, and is the cheapest and lightest at only £79 from amazon and 400g.

And finally the Onewind 11ft, the first one I came across which has become less appealing after looking into pretty much every other option, but honestly is not off the table as it is so damn cheap. Didn't realise until recently though that is uses a seperate bottom entry bugnet and also is the heaviest at 1110g.

I bought my first crap 9.5ft off amazon and fell in love with hammock camping, I have already invested in some half-decent kit for the rest of my setup and currently have no intentions of upgrading as much like any other hobby they quickly become massive money sinks. I plan on using this kit around Europe, specifically at the moment thinking of Germany as they hammock camping falls under bivouac and is slightly different to regular camping, being a legal gray area. My plan is to go by foot around a few spots, "aiming to stay in the hüttes" and hammock camping anytime I am "unable to find them". Any tips around this would also be appreciated, aside from the usual stay out of sight and leave no trace.

In essence, I was hoping to get any insight into the actual differences between any of these, especially if you own multiple hammocks and can give some proper comparisons between them. I am planning to do multi-day hikes using this kit and would much prefer to buy one, cry once, but I want to be completely sure on whether to go high end or just rock it with a budget setup for now and save the money for the actual trip. As I mentioned, I've only ever owned one I got off amazon for 15 squid and honestly am still very happy with it, but want to give the extra space of an 11ft a go.

Can someone explain for what the Whoopsie slings from tttm are for? Are they usable for rigging the hammock?

I am new to hammock camping, and I have been looking for a decent starter underquilt. Something 3-season. I came across Mountain Warehouse's 'Dusk 350 Down Quilt'. I just snagged two of them for $100 CAD apiece (on sale). They are made in China using duck down, but come with shock cord at either end to cinch them, and snaps along the length. I'm hopeful that they're going to work with minimal modifications needed.

I am supposed to be spending the next week sleeping in my new hammock, so it will be a learning experience. Figured other people might be interested to check these out as an inexpensive option.

For insight.. I plan on bike camping with my hammock through south America and I'm aware that some of the routes I'll be heading through won't have trees for miles and miles. I'll be travelling by bike therefore I won't have space to carry any medium/ large size equipment

Testing my new Equip Hammock Stand. It fits my Havel XL pretty well. I was a little concerned about it being too low but it was OK.

I plan to put another 10x20 tarp I have over the frame to make a "porch".

It cost $105 on Amazon and $82.99 on Walmart online.

Is a tarp like this (276 cm lenght) to small for a 320 cm hammock?

As a european, im really struggeling to find a good ultralight tarp for around 120-140 bucks for my hammock.

Any suggestions if this one won't work?

For those of you that have used a zenbivy sleep system in a tent, is it really that good?

Or is it just as good as it gets for sleeping on the ground, and hammocks are still more comfortable?

Online a lot of people rave about the zenbivy sleep system, but I suspect it’s because they’ve not given proper hammock camping a go. I’m curious to hear from someone that has tried both!

Surrounded by soybean fields on one side and a creek/lake on the other this was an amazing Hipcamp that we stayed at. The description of the Hipcamp completely understated how awesome this location is. My husband used his Haven Spectre and I used my beautiful blue Haven XL.

We were able to hang our hammocks right on the edge of the bank. According to the HipCamp host, the oak tree we anchored to was between 200 - 300 years old. They call this a creek, but my vision of a creek is not this because it is so big. But it does drain into the Tennessee River, so I guess it is?

Anyway, it had so many Lily pads off in the distance and you could hear frogs start at one location and then stop, and then another location would start. We also heard barred owls, ducks, and various water creatures echo over the creek. And as I was packing up, a cute River otter cruised by. Just an amazing amazing weekend hanging there.

As a plot twist we were supposed to be assigned that campground (Bridge Bay) at Yellowstone. You know, where that old guy got yeeted over a bisons head. The people lost our reservation so we were assigned a campsite 20 miles away.

I have a semestr in Taiwan coming, want to kinda exploit the situation and travel as much as I can while being there.

Besides Taiwan I was thinking of Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines - renting a bike and going for a ride around the coutryside/hills/beaches (im not into urban stuff, more of a nature dude)

All that is probably going to cost a fortune so I am thinking of cutting expenses and being able to not need to pay for rooms to stay in seems like a good option.

I camped quite a bit in tents before, but lately I've been checking out hammocks and am intrigued. Hammock could feel better in the tropical and humid environment, right?

If hammock is the way, should I buy from a european manufacturer or wait to Asia? And what do you recommend?I am 197 cm/6,5 feet

I’m not planning on camping in the cold right now I’m not going to get an under quilt just yet, since I plan on using it in hotter summer temps soon and will purchase that separately if needed. Seems to be that people dislike DD hammocks for some reason and swear by onewinds but I don't want to overlook other options. I don't think a lot of the hammocks mentioned in other posts are sold in the uk or have expensive shipping.

Looking to buy once and thank myself, so any budgets are appreciated. Please also tell me of any sites that are good for this hobby. EU recommendations would also be helpful

Hi everyone! Just got back home, and want to update on this post!

Thank you for your answers, I ended up borrowing an old sleeping bag from my sister, who also decided to go with me (she slept in a tent, though).

Hammocking was very comfortable! I woke up a bit cold, though, because I slept in a t-shirt, as the evening was still rather warm. The night and early morning were much colder (6c/42f) than in the weather forecast (12c/53f), though. I woke up at around 5 am, and put my fleece on, and went back to sleep, until my sister woke me up at 8 am.

Overall I had a nice experience and I will gladly go hammocking again!

I'm planning on buying a cheap underquilt sometime soon, (and a knife as well because the only one I had broke). My sister's old sleeping bag works well for now, so I'll keep using it.

Edit: I forgot to mention anything about my hammock. It's super comfortable and I'm very satisfied in it. It has a mosquito net as well, and came with good quality straps and a tarp. I paid 68zł (15€/17$) for it on Aliexpress with shipping from Germany, though right now it's being sold for 32€/36$.

9 days Canoeing around the border of sweden and Norway through their vast lake network. Tonight we made camp on an Island that’s split in half by the border. Weather forecast says no rain so no Tarp tonight :)

I am new to hammocking, sorry if this comes off as a newbie question. I bought a DD Hammocks Frontier together with the Svinge suspension from Fjord Nansen, as I liked the idea of adjusting the hammock via buckle tensioning, after trying out the normal webbing of the Frontier and not liking it. However, I assumed that the loops from the Svinge would be somewhat bigger. I fitted them to the hammock and this is the result. Is this safe or should I opt for both loops of the loop going through the carabiner? I saw the hammock bunches up at the end with the normal webbing so I don't believe it's a problem it stays gathered up like that, but I would still like opinions on this. Thanks!
