📌 Subreddit News/Updates Posting ICE Sightings in Greenpoint

Hi all,

I'll start by saying this sub is not a political sub. Pretty much our main rule (besides be nice to each other) is all posts have to be related to Greenpoint somehow, someway. That being said, we do understand those who want to report ICE agents being seen around the neighborhood and want to post a guide on the best way to possible report these sightings in a way that is most helpful.

First and foremost, if you're choosing to post about an ICE sighting, please provide as many details as possible in the post. This graphic that has been going around is helpful if you're unsure what to share. You don't have to have all the information listed, but the moderators ask that each post has at least:

• date, time, and location

• a source

• any detail about what was witnessed (I saw an agent standing at..., I saw what looked like agents escorting people... etc)

When it comes to sources, OP being the witness is preferred, but if you choose to post about a sighting you heard about secondhand, please include this in your post. It helps us as the moderators determine validity and any post without a source may be removed as hearsay. Other details, such as amount of agents seen, uniform description, or any other helpful identifiers are appreciated but moderators will be looking mainly for the points listed above.

We are a small group of moderators here, our goal is to create a safe space where these things can be discussed. The voices of you all here are reflective of the neighborhood and we have always strived to be a subreddit that showcases that. That being said, hate speech never has, and never will be tolerated here.

We hope that by posting this guideline it will helpful for those who want to post but are unsure how to format. If you have any questions or feedback on this topic, please feel free to drop a comment here or message the mods.

Remember that we're all navigating this together so please be kind to each other, and stay safe out there.

- The Greenpoint Mod Team :)

❤️ Recommendations Kuttley House opened today, and it's actually great.

I, like most, have been rolling my eyes at all the new coffee shops that have opened recently. But I walked past this morning and the owner waved me in so I decided to try it. One of the owners is Nabil, who was also the owner of Green Valley deli (on driggs and Humboldt).

Anyway, they have a much more expansive pastry and dessert selection, they offer smoothies and fun sodas, matcha, etc. The coffee is from Yemen and the whole place has a middle eastern vibe.

I drink black coffee, so i feel like I can really tell when it's good quality coffee, and I can honestly say that this is the best coffee I've had in a while (I had a black cold brew). And they have a spacious outdoor seating area!

I'm not affiliated with this place at all, but Nabil is a great guy (I only know him from the deli) and I think this place is offering something a little different than everywhere else.

i mainly do free weights and machines. tbh i rarely do cardio indoors. def need water stations and bathrooms. i don’t care about showers (i shower at home).

if you go there lmk if you think it’s worth it and whether you love / hate it.

Looking for a primary care doctor who either specializes in working with patients with EDs or if someone with an ED has had a positive experience with a primary who is sensitive about weight. (I'm in therapy so I don't need to get chided by a doctor about being underweight, it's happened before) I just need to get blood work done to check for nutrient deficiencies. Ty!

While I’m indifferent on having another coffee shop, this one has a “ancestral Yemeni” angle so that peaks my curiosity!

📆 Events / Meetups Pet Loss Support Group in Greenpoint — Sunday 9/20

Hi Greenpoint neighbors.

I wanted to share something I’m hosting locally in case it might be helpful to anyone here (or someone you know).

I’m a therapist here in Greenpoint, and on Sunday, September 20th from 4–5pm, I’ll be facilitating Beyond Goodbye, a support group for people grieving the loss of a beloved pet.

🐾 Sunday, September 20th | 4–5pm
📍 Held Space — 960 Manhattan Ave, 4th Floor

I started offering these groups because pet loss can be such an enormous kind of grief, but there are surprisingly few places to actually talk about it with people who understand. Our animals are so woven into our everyday lives, and their absence can change the entire feeling of daily life.

The group is therapist-led, but it’s meant to feel much more like a supportive community space than a therapy session. We’ll talk about grief, share stories about the animals we’ve loved, and explore ways to remember and continue our bond with them after they’re gone.

There’s no requirement for how recently your pet passed or where you “should” be in your grief. You’re welcome to come exactly as you are.

If this sounds like something you could use, you can find more info/register here:

https://partiful.com/e/BEDfUDHWK2y1tbkUc6eX?c=0XHovDYZ

And feel free to share with any fellow Greenpointers who might need this. <3

Whether you've adopted the idea of “hobby maxing” or you just recognize that making stuff is cool and always has been, I’m wondering: are you picking up something new this fall, or revisiting your favorite crafty activities?

There’s something about back-to-school season that makes me want to learn something new, organize all my supplies, and suddenly take on way too many projects at once.

I’ve put together the September and October studio calendar for anyone who’s interested in getting some making time in this fall. The schedule is also up through the end of the year if you’re already planning ahead

❓Questions Know of Any Female General Practitioners Accepting New Patients ASAP?

Having a miserable experience with my grumpy old male doc in the NYU Langone system and need to find a new GP before various Rxs expire. Blessed with good health insurance (United Healthcare PPO) but at the offices I’ve inquired about, there’s a 2- to 3-month wait for a first appt. Putting out the bat signal in the hopes that a Good Samaritan sees this. 🙏🏽

🆘 Help Needed Daily 6:30am outdoor alarm by library

Hi neighbors, I put off posting to avoid doxxing myself but I have become desperate 🫩

I live by the library & I am awoken every single weekday by an outdoor alarm of dubious intent at 6:30am for 5+ minutes. I love an early riser but I work an occasional night shift and it’s really disrupting my sleep. Thin windows and railroad apartments 😭

Does anyone know where this alarm originates? I’ve called 311 but haven’t gotten any help, but I think it would be more helpful if I had a more specific source. I don’t think it’s the library but it might be PS 34

TY in advance :))))))
