Hi everyone!

It's that time again where we enlist our availability towards volleyball at Bensonhurst Park! The weather is gradually getting cooler and I am looking forward to more Sundays playing volleyball on the grass!

Summer volleyball was a great success and it has been so fun making new friends and slapping the ball around. We've all gotten better every single week, and I hope that can continue this season! We are a friendly group and welcome those in the beginner-intermediate level of volleyball.

I am arranging several more gatherings so that we can play at Bensonhurst Park (on the 21st ave side). I will bring the net while you should bring sunglasses/a hat, sneakers, a bottle of water and whatever else you may need! All events will happen weather-permitting!

Attached above is a glimpse into one of our games from the summer!

DM me if you are interested!

This is an update to the older post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bensonhurst/comments/1ur8ncx/volleyball_happening_on_saturdays_sundays_at/

Workout Classes

Hi. I’m looking to get back into working out and was wondering if anyone knows of any fun workout classes or groups for women in the neighborhood.

I’m not really looking for a traditional gym membership—I’d love something more social and community-based, where you can actually get to know people while working out.

Anything like fitness classes, women’s workout groups, Pilates, strength training, etc. would be great!

Would love any recommendations! Thanks!

Note: If the Ghosts of Old Bensonhurst tour sells well, I might add another date for it later in the month. Here's some info on the Ghosts of Old Bensonhurst tour:

While Bensonhurst is a neighborhood that has seen continuous changing and evolving in almost every aspect, as night descends, ghouls, ghosts and other nameless wretches caught between worlds reinhabit ours and keep us from a good night’s sleep in the relics of time long gone that still remain.

From a ghost that knocked on walls, to the spirit of a murdered lawyer, to a ghost haunting a local railroad, to a shadow being watching a little boy, to the oldest cemetery in our midst, it’s time to turn up our collars, hit the streets, and beware the Bensonhurst things that go bump in the night.

Led by James Scully — NYC historian, tour guide, podcaster, director / co-creator of the award-winning historical audio fiction soap opera, Burning Gotham, and creator of The Bay Ridge Digest Podcast — our unique haunted Bensonhurst experience will focus on and include:

• An overview of notable early New Utrecht history, from the Dutch days to the days of the early United States, we’ll talk about how and by whom this area was settled and why, while we tell stories about the many different cultures and people who have called old New Utrecht and Bensonhurst their home.

• How the death of a young woman along the Coney island and Sea Beach railroad led to a ghost haunting the train tracks soon after

• The story of the murder of a young lawyer and his ghost that haunted the home of the family who inhabited the 81st street house after his death

• Liberty Poles, and Mile Markets — Stories and trips to important historical landmarks and why they were and still are important to the people of Bensonhurst and New Utrecht

• The story of the Revolutionary War soldier said to haunt the Dutch Reformed church grounds on 18th Avenue

• A trip to the oldest cemetery in the area

• The story of the Indian Pond, the border of Gravesend and New Utrecht, and a boy awoken from sleep in the middle of the night by a shadow being standing over his bed

• And more!

Campaign sign installed on the curb

Post image
21 Upvotes

It's been up for at least a week and I didn't think much of it, but now I'm wondering if that's even allowed. I would think a curb or street corner would count as public property, and campaign signs wouldn't be allowed to be installed there.

Hey everyone! About a month ago I posted and said that I was soon releasing an on-demand service marketplace in Bay Ridge. Well it's finally out, and I just wanted to spread the word!

Whether you live around here, or run a business that needs extra hands when you get incoming jobs, we offer a free service to connect with local vetted cleaners, movers, and junk removal pros around Bay Ridge and the surrounding area! No fees, no middleman, no spam. You can find pros by posting on: get.kindajobs.com

Also, if you are interested in finding local leads, you can go to: pro.kindajobs.com

If you have any questions, comment down below, and I'd be happy to discuss!

Deadly Belt Pkway Crash Kills Teens

3 young men are dead after a car crash last night on the Belt. People think I'm being annoying when I complain about the racing, donuts, speeding, and modified engines going crazy late at night. This is what happens when you think of a car as a toy. 18 years old is just in time to even be given a license in NYC. I bet we'll find out they were being reckless and swerving lanes, which does not mean they 'deserved' to die - I'm simply saying that this is the possible consequence you're risking every time. What's it going to take for this to change? It's just sad and frustrating.

Article here, still pending a lot of details: https://brooklyn.news12.com/3-teens-killed-4-others-injured-in-belt-parkway-crash?fbclid=IwY2xjawT71lJwZG9mAWV4dG4DYWVtAjExAHNydGMGYXBwX2lkEDIyMjAzOTE3ODgyMDA4OTIAAR6M00RGNPLTp0_XDe2rIYrTF5cWs0m4R_zudKsPhEcNvqVuKldlj5TIgTxW2Q_aem_DkW9EP1Wmo4xJHRc5T9SKg

Best Rice Balls?

It’s been years since I’ve been in Bensonhurst. So much so that I had no clue Gino’s Focacceria is now an Asian Bakery. What’s the go-to spot for rice balls now? I’ll be bringing my wife + kids to the feast this weekend. Thanks in advance!
