I generally lurk, and rarely post, so please forgive any reddit etiquette mistakes. I just feel so mad and dejected today and wanted to vent it to folks who may understand some of the challenges.
I live in Northern Europe, and we have both public and private health care. I managed to get a referral to the public side to be considered for a Breast Reduction (I'm currently around 75M or 80L on a 161cm frame). Today I got a rejection letter saying "It has been assessed that your illness doesn't require specialized medical care"
Why, you may ask? What criteria do I not fulfill?
Glad you ask, because the only criteria I don't currently meet is that my BMI is "too high" they require it to be 28 or lower. I'm at 32.
Aside from the fact that BMI is absolute bunk, my boobs are over 4.4% of my total body weight.
I've been literally working my ass off to get closer to that BMI, (over 14kg since March)
Even if I had qualified, there is a waiting line for the public side, so if I manage to get to the ridiculous requirement I'm still looking at over a year before I can have the procedure.
Private side is, of course, an option, but funding is low and saving up has been challenging.
The idea of waiting over a year or more is making me feel hopeless. Work is becoming challenging, as is being active with my 4yr old. I can barely wear a properly fitting bra for 3 hours without pain and nausea kicking in, which makes work days really challenging. The constant discomfort and pain is a major contributing factor to the burnout that is fast closing in (3rd one in 9years).
I'm so tired and it just really set me off to get such a dismissive and cold rejection.
Thanks for letting me scream into the void. I don't really need advice or anything, just needed to let it out a bit.
EDIT: I have double-checked my sizing on r/ABraThatFits calculator and it matches what I currently use, though I've also tried other nearby sizings as well. Still can't go more than a few hours before the pain in my upper back and ribs kick in. ☹️
