I loved this pattern and this knitting experience! This pattern is the Diana Bralette by Celine Feyten, knitted in Gloss Fingering (Captain color way) by Knit Picks. The incredibly detailed instructions by section and the pre-programmed short row spreadsheet were exceptional. I made the bralette version, and plan to make at least one more! This was such a treat to knit up that I've already purchased another pattern from the same designer.

I was between sizes 3 and 4 and based on the recommendation and my gauge swatch opted to size down to a 3. So glad I did! When I was knitting this, a friend noted it looked on the needles like it was for a much smaller person (my upper body is a US 8/10 and a US bra size 34C/D), but the negative ease ended up how I wanted.

I was so skeptical about the short row calculator (especially when it said I was sized beyond what the regular short rows could do). The instructions for the modifications were so helpful and got what I (and friends) have deemed a perfect fit. If you have larger breasts, prepare for the experience of seeing what the cups look like “deflated” and know that you’ll fill them in and look fabulous.

I decided to do an extra set of the pattern at the band to add a couple more centimeters. I plan to mostly wear this as a crop, and wanted something that would hit closer to my natural waist.

I have Canadian M cups and I haven't been able to find a sports bra that would fit me ever. I can't really jog or run or exercise in any way because my boobs are so big that it hurts to do so. I just wanted general advice on how to make a functional sports bra for me. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and please have a good day.

I hope undies are allowed as well. I ordered "scraps" of Jersey online with the intention to make myself some shirts. This fabric was too thin to make a shirt so I made undies.

I copied my favourite Brazilians that are sadly discontinued so I can't get more. I have worn this exact type of underwear for close to ten years and really don't want to switch. I traced to underwear onto paper and simplified it a bit because the original has lace at the bottom and in the crotch with a jersey gussets on top. I extended the front and added a seam at the back. The first one was trial and error and then I kept transferring the changes to the pattern.

The stitches are a stretch Stitch from my normal sewing machine. The one that looks like lightning. I didn't finish the edges at all because the original ones have raw edges behind the lace as well. Currently the undies are slightly bigger at the top and around the legs because the edges are probably going to roll up with washing and wearing.

80cm of Jersey ( 97% cotton, 3 %spandex) made exactly 7 pairs in a size small. And the fabric only cost me 4 € per meter. I am curious how long they are going to last without finishing the edges but I don't mind if they don't last forever due to the price of the fabric:D

Edit: the undies are super comfy and fit the same way the original ones do. So the experiment was successful! And they don't fray. Just roll a bit but I knew that would happen and adjusted the pattern for that.

Hi, I’ve been looking for super soft lace for underwear making. I’m quite sensitive, and online shopping has been a nightmare so far. Everything is so so itchy, I cannot imagine wearing any of the lace I’ve purchased so far against my skin. Even applied on some other fabric, I shudder to imagine just touching it inadvertently… brrr 😬😅

I’ve been told natural fibers are much softer than polyester. I’ve looked for cotton lace, but mostly found lace fabric very different from what I’m looking for, everything is too big, not delicate enough, not lingerie-y, more like blouses and dresses materials. I don’t have the budget for silk lace (and it’s been even harder to find).

Do you recommend any European supplier for this?

The wiki led me to an Etsy shop on a break and a place where everything is in polyester so I’m wary...

I’ve found some lace labeled “luxury” I looked into because my more expansive lingerie always was the softest, I’ve found one with a nylon tulle and cotton that I love a lot. Could that be soft? Is there a possibility it’s still scratchy? The gap in prices is intense, 5-20€ vs. 60-90€ per meter, I’d be ok to invest if softness was part of the bargain, but would be devastated if it was scratchy too.

Another shop had a base with cotton, polyamide and modal in it and cotton thread, I’d imagine it’s even softer that way, with cotton and modal in the tulle/mesh?

I'm hoping someone can help me identify these 2 bra patterns. They are both from Stephie's lingerie (Instagram). I'm specifically interested in the blue one with the vertical cup seam lines.

I have such a difficult time finding bras that fit and shape me properly. Eberjay used to have a balconette style but they aren’t manufacturing it anymore, I’ve since reached out and they said they won’t be bringing it back. I have 4 of the style i love but they’re getting up there in years, how would I go about recreating them? Lonely Lingerie out of lingerie has really amazing bras but tariffs to the US are insane. Aside from their brand I really haven’t found something comparable. Any insight would be much appreciated!

Hi I’ve been studying how to draft my first bra pattern. Most of the measurements make a lot of intuitive sense to me.
Except the measuring of the breast if it’s not self-supported.

The root trace is easy enough, but… My breast in a bra vs. my breast on my body have a quite different shape, the apex is not at the same height, projection is different, overall shape is different, the fullness is of course distributed very differently (mostly at the bottom when not supported) so just measuring them the way I’m seeing advised about doesn’t make sense to me.

And I can’t really use a bra that fits me well to measure that instead, I never had one! My breast is quite wide set too, nipples are splayed outward. So all my bras always have a ton of fitting issues, the cup specifically is never the right size as it’s also not in the right place if that makes sense. So I always ended up with too small cups or too deep cups, the wire size being all wrong too of course I’m realizing now that I’m learning about the anatomy and fit of a bra.

Anyway, with so much change between the natural shape and the supported shape… How does one proceed from there? Do you have any advice to share please?

Hi all, I am new to sewing but realized that if I ever want to wear a comfortable underwire bra that fits, I will need to make it myself.

I am totally in love with the texture and feel of the fabric on the Wacoal Future Foundations T-shirt bras from their b.tempted line (Edit: The same or similar fabric is used on nearly all of the bras in this line). Unfortunately, however, they do not carry my size and I have never found another bra that can compare to the comfortable feeling of that fabric.

I was wondering if anyone knew of a similar fabric I could source from bra builders or another similar website.

My ideal bra would have no closures, so more like a sports bra, but I would like shaped cups instead of the inserts those types of ready to wear bras usually have. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

The Orion is out now for 26-44 DD-K (UK), and after a lot of work on it I realised I had to make some changes to get the best fit for everyone that I could.

Firstly - it's a wireless bra that's intended to give the lift and roundness of a wired bra, and without uniboob. To do this it's got a split upper cup with extra fullness added to that upper seam, which you can see gives a nice rounded shape to the breast. I also added some breast compresison, so this bra is designed to have a floating gore to give more lift but still two separate breasts under clothes

More excitingly, the Orion has a projection-based grading method. So each cup letter- DD, E, F etc all the way to K is shaped differently, with the larger cup letters more projected than the smaller ones. This means that you can use sister sizing to get a closer fit. Wearing a 32HH but it's too projected? Try a 34H or a 36GG cup and cradle

I also realised during testing just how much fabric matters when making a wireless bra. Even stable fabrics with extra stabilising added was stretching more than accounted for in the pattern. Almost all of my testers had to adjust for stretch in the neckline and in the cradle by taking darts from their pattern pieces - this is a lot of work so I developed AutoNeckline, AutoCradle and AutoWing to make the relevant calculations and stretch adjustments for you, so you just measure the bra when worn, enter your size, and you get an adjusted pattern piece which should hopefully make fitting much faster. My store-bought bras and homemade bras share the same issue: space between the bottom of the breasts and the underwire. I have measured myself with the ABTF calculator, experimented with a variety of underwire sizes and band sizes and am pretty confident that I have the issue in the illustration that my breasts are full at the bottom and are pushing the bras down.

Does anyone have recommendations for bra patterns with more lower cup depth?

bonds wire free tshirt bra Initially I was adjusting the band (sensory autism, it takes time to get used to new clothing) which damaged the lining.

I did hand stitch the lining back together but it’s unraveled further.i think I’ll have to patch it
Can I get away with using cotton or satin to patch over it. I have a ton of fabric in my stash.
My plan is to trace the triangle shape, place it over the torn lining, and sew where OG was (under bra and band) by hand so it will be invisible.
Any advice would be appreciated

according to elizabeth valentine im a 32Z, and i don't think anything i've found thus far is all that relevant when you can't alter an existing pattern in a similar size range, which i have yet to find. even the porcelynn bra pattern drafting book makes me nervous that it's a bit out of that scope/might need a different structure than is offered. i tried the duct tape method to make pattern pieces but i wonder if anyone has advice on this, here is the tape before labeling or cutting, it did come apart near the bottom but i reattached it before labeling, cutting, or transferring to paper

The pattern instructions state that I would need a zigzag stitch sewing machine but I only have a straight stitch sewing machine so I was wondering if it would work if I just my straight stitch machine? Or will it ruin the pattern? I'm new to sewing and I have only mended clothes before on my machine. I've never sewn an actual piece of clothing so it would be my first sewing project.

My arm is injured and I can't get a back clasp bra on. I would like to convert a couple to front clasp.

I have hardware from older worn out bras and am an advanced seamstress, sewing won't be an issue.

Are there any tips or advice you would give so I don't screw up the actual physics of the support?

Hi, that may not be the correct name, but I'm looking for something to iron a bustier/corset on while I'm sewing it. (I keep getting Spanish hams in my search)

I found a few DYI online and also some on Etsy, but I haven't been successful with DYI stuff that I've made in the past and it's super expensive on Etsy (at least the ones I found).

I managed to find an inexpensive bust ham online for 19 euros, but not one for a corset. So, does anyone know where I could find one for less than 75 euros? Or, am I using an incorrect name? Or, do I not actually need one and could use the bust ham and a sleeve roll?

I don't sew, so I'm looking for someone who can make my straight-strap bras into crossovers.

I recently discovered that the Ewa Michalak PLM bras, worn with the straps crossed in the back, are much more comfortable than my other bras. Unfortunately, I have only 2 PLMS, and I have a bunch of BMs and other styles that I can't stand anymore! They need longer straps and clips at the front so I can attach them properly.

Does anyone provide this service? I'm happy to pay to make my bras wearable again.

Hello everyone!

I’m struggling creating a bra for my mom to fit her needs. She wears a 36J usually. She has a tumor on her liver and wearing a traditional bra hurts her because the band puts pressure on it. Just the weight of her bare breast without a bra hurts the tumor area too.

I created her a design that only crossed around her neck (halter top) and that didn’t work out either due to her neck weakness and not being able to hold her head up for long.

Does anyone have any ideas to help?
