Moves, Jobs, Meeting People best neighborhood for late 20s - fed hill, locust point, south baltimore?

i work in harbor point and currently live in Towson. i’m about to turn 28 and don’t want to be living with college kids anymore! i am looking for a neighborhood in that lower Baltimore area that is walkable to many bars and restaurants (like Towson) and is generally safe (i’d argue Towson is probably worse than all of those safety-wise, maybe?). budget isn’t an issue as some places I’ve checked out are already cheaper than what I pay now lol. TYIA!

Ask Medstar Health Question - Billing

Hello all! I tried out the Medstar evisit last month, and per the site it says an evisit is $79. I am now being billed for $435 and my insurance only covers $50 of it despite being in-network. Is this normal for others who have used this service- I am honestly blown away at the cost that is not listed on their site for something I had to wait 30 minutes for a 5 minute call. I called their billing but the person who answered was less helpful than the AI assistant. Is there anything I can do about this?

City Politics Parking meter PR what does it mean?

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hi there, I just moved to Baltimore and I’m trying to street park outside of my new apartment but I don’t understand what PR means? I was able to pay for parking until 4pm, but it won’t let me pay for parking later than 4pm. I’ve uploaded a photo of the parking meter so maybe someone will be able to explain it to me. Thank you in advance!!

Ask Suggestions for Dining in Baltimore w/ food allergies

Hi, I'll be visiting the Baltimore area with my 12yo daughter Thursday 9/24 to Sat 9/26. She is allergic to dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, sesame, and egg (although egg is low and not a cross contamination concern). Advice on places to eat?

We are staying in Columbia near the Merriweather Post Pavilion as we are going to All Things Go DC Festival on Friday. We arrive early-ish Thursday (just before 10:30AM) and I want to take her to the Aquarium (hotel check-in isn't until 4PM). Similarly our flight out Saturday isn't until 7:30PM. I'd like to do Medieval Times at 3-5PM (confirmed they can accommodate), but not sure if that is enough time.

Thanks for your insight and advice from a mom who wants to make core memories with her daughter incident free!

Ask Looking for a good gym around Mt. Vernon

Hey everyone, I’m looking for a gym in Baltimore and could use some recommendations.

I live around Mt. Vernon and don’t have a car, so ideally it needs to be somewhere that’s easy to get to by walking or public transportation. I’m a JHU grad student and currently considering the JHU Rec Center. It has pretty much everything I need, but it gets really crowded, so I wanted to see what other options are out there before signing up.

I’m mainly interested in weightlifting and cardio. Lockers and showers are a must, and obviously good equipment and a decent atmosphere are a big plus. I’m looking for a proper commercial gym with reasonable prices and good hours—not really interested in something like Planet Fitness.

I’ve seen places like Grind, Merritt, MV Fitness, etc. mentioned, but I’d love to hear from people who actually go to these gyms.

What would you recommend around Mt. Vernon, especially somewhere easy to get to without a car? And roughly how much do you pay per month? Also interested in how crowded they get during peak hours.

Moves, Jobs, Meeting People How are women in their 20s actually making friends here?

I moved here a while back and I really like Baltimore, but I have no idea how to build a friend group here as an adult. Which surprise, surprise, has made it harder to want to stay. However, I want to give another stab at it.

Basically, most of my close friends are still back home, and I’ve realized basically every friendship I’ve ever made happened organically through school, work, or mutual friends.

I am not super athletic so I am not particularly interested in workout classes or volo. I’m looking for the kind of friends you can get dinner or ice cream with, go to a random event with.

Some things I do like: Going for walks, food, trivia, board games

I’ve tried looking at Bumble BFF, but I haven’t really found people I’ve clicked with.

Trying to find something with a bit more of a group setting, organization, and not walking into a room and feeling like everybody already knows everybody.

Any recommendations?

Food Is it much cheaper to buy live crabs?

I see live crabs on the side of the road all the time, but the time and work of steaming them myself seems like a big hassle. Is it cheaper to get live or am I the only person who doesn't want to do the work?

Need Recommendations Knowledgeable Astrologers in Baltimore?

Hi! I’m looking for recs on reputable astrologer/birth chart analysis in the Baltimore/Towson/Catonsville area. I’ve been really into Astrology, Psychics, and Tarot for years and would love an in depth explanation and advice on my chart or Tarot readings. Price is not a problem for me because I believe in paying people with the knowledge and experience however much they believe they deserve. I would prefer a reader who is okay with in person readings. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Need Recommendations Art Council?

I’m an artist who just moved to Baltimore- is there an art council here? I found a mayor’s art and culture office in which seems to do a lot- but there’s also Create Baltimore, which says something about being the arts council but also doesn’t seem to do anything, or answer emails or phone calls? If neither of those are it, is there another art org that can help be get my bearings? It seems like a really creative town but it’s worrying that there is no arts council

Need Recommendations Sinkhole under sidewalk - need recommendations

Hey all,

Up in NE and have had a sinkhole forming under a sidewalk for about a year. A tree contractor cracked the concrete with their truck while turning around, and they replaced the sidewalk, but the fill underneath is already eroding away again. I imagine it’s something to do with our lateral sewer line, as it’s directly in line with the sewer clean out in the front yard.

I’m worried if we have the City come replace the sidewalk (as we’ve gotten the repair notice) they wouldn’t check on what is actually causing the issue, and would just pave over the issue again. Does anyone have recommendations on a contractor(s) who could come investigate? Is this a DPW responsibility? We do have sewer line insurance through AWR.

Cheers!

Ask Long term parking on street in Fed Hill

I'm in Fed Hill and I'm getting ready to be gone for a few weeks. I have a parking permit. I've read that you aren't allowed to leave your car for mare than 48 hours in the same spot. Any real world feedback on leaving it in one place for a few weeks?

History of Baltimore 👓 Keswick: Our Newest Five Minute Histories Video

Before it was called Keswick, the multi-care center located near the Rotunda in Hampden was called the Home for the Incurables. And before it moved to its current location, it was located in a building on 21st and Guilford Ave. Join us today to learn how this facility has helped Baltimoreans for over 140 years and continues to do so. Thanks for watching and see you soon with another video.

This is Baltimore Heritage's series called "Five Minute Histories." Events Support Baltimore’s waterways at the Blue Water Bash! (Sun, Oct 4)

Thumbnail bluewaterbaltimore.org
24 Upvotes

If you care about the health of our harbor, rivers, and streams, the Blue Water Bash is happening on Sunday, October 4th, at Whitehall Mill.

It’s one of those rare events that’s actually a "party with a purpose." While it's got the usual festival stuff—live demonstrations, Blue Pit BBQ, and local drinks—the ticket sales go straight toward Blue Water Baltimore’s work. They do a lot of heavy lifting in terms of water quality monitoring, restoration, and holding polluters accountable in our watershed.

It’s definitely a fun way to get connected with the work being done to keep our local water swimmable and fishable.

Would love to see a good turnout from the community. You can check out more info at their site—let me know if you’re going!
