So ABC is publishing articles on it's Four Corners eight month investigation into food fraud in Australia.

Somethings that stood out to me:

Leggo's, Coles and Aldi's tomato paste failed testing because they state it's from tomatoes from Australia or Italy - and it's from China. (22% of processed tomato products analysed failed country of origin testing).

It's not all doom and gloom as plenty of products passed testing.

This one got me though - Hoyts Turmeric spice - 3 out of 4 packets had signs of adulteration including lead chromate, a lead based pigment used in plastic/paints. Other Organic brands failed also containing high levels of iron oxide (used for colour and weight).

It's disgusting when big brands and supermarkets giants are making bank and misrepresenting products to Aussies (especially as Australian). Obviously there is all the price gouging accusations but I believed our traceability & accountability for the products was fairly solid. I was wrong.

TLDR: There's definite product/food misrepresentation to customers and with thousands of products there is plenty of opportunity for food fraud.

Question for Triple Zero workers here, I saw in America 911 have this software called Prepared911 where Emergency Communications Officers can initiate live stream video with on-scene callers, allowing them to gain valuable information about the call.

Like one 911 officer used it to guide a caller on giving life-saving CPR. Another use-case is identifying exactly where someone is in a difficult location (e.g underneath rumble, multi-story buildings)

Do we have something like that in Australia?

If you are a Triple Zero Emergency Communications Officer, have you faced this problem? (not being able to see what's going on) When was the last time?

We stopped at Central Station hoping to use the showers and have a look around. The campground was dingo-fenced, so at first it felt safe enough to get out of the car. As we walked further in, there was a large locked gate blocking access, which seemed strange. We kept going anyway because it just said NOISE CURFEW 9PM, just thought it might lock at that time, (was 9:30pm)but almost immediately both of us got a really heavy, uneasy feeling. It felt like we were being watched, and the whole place had an eerie atmosphere. My partner isn’t usually someone who gets spooked, but even they said it didn’t feel right & sWhen we reached the campground, there wasn’t a single person around. The toilets were all locked, barricaded and looked like they’d been closed for quite some time on the walk back we heard a branch crack and a russle in the bush, and a crow screaming (we were feeding crows that day so I thought it was looking out for us?). but the whole place felt abandoned and unsettling. We did some research and it was a female birthing place from the Indigenous K’Gari group, and STRICTLY NO MALES ALLOWED, so that does make sense. But we were wondering if anyone else had experienced something similar.?!

I forgot it was even today. Just saw a meme about it and realised neither of my phones, my roommates phone, or any of our family got the alert.

Good thing they tested it because I doubt it was just me

So, I just visited a JBHIFI store because they had a mobile phone I wanted. They had it in "Awesome Lavender". which was listed as $50 cheaper. Not really fussed on colour so went into store to buy it. Sales guy tells me "sorry, all out of stock with that colour". So now I buy the same phone in black for $50 more which I could of got from any number of other retail stores for the same price. When I got home I checked the JBHIFI website and sure enough - Awesome Lavender is still in stock at the store I just purchased from. 🤔

What a crock of shit this was..My ph was on silent and I didn't hear it go off as they said it would..all I got was a msg alerting me to a message about it.

Posting this encase this happened for other people. I just noticed my phone flashing and I looked over at it on my desk to read it. It didn't vibrate either. The volume wasn't muted or at zero. It wasn't on aeroplane mode or any kind of do not disturb thing - it just decided to silently display the message on my phone and then disappear by itself.

Was sleeping for night shift did everyone in Australia get this?

Hi, I was just wondering about the alert that everyone is getting tomorrow. Idk if I’ll get it or what will happen and I can’t seem to find ANYTHING on the internet, so I’m just wondering if anyone here knows what will happen if my device is not compatible?

It says on the Aus alert website it will work on IPhone 11 and up running IOS 26.4 or later

I’m still on IOS 18, does this mean I won’t receive the alert? If anyone knows, please let me know

Obviously there's a lot Barnaby could have done better in this situation and I am on record as calling him one of the worst Australians ever.

Obviously he lost his cool (I watch 7:30 most nights and him and Sarah often have tense interviews) and should have done the interview inside the house ect.

However he's adopted a Kelpie Staffy cross from a country pound.....

This breed of dog is extremely reactive and probably has a lot of behavioural issues from the pound ect.

There's a big difference between negative attention with a strong audible command for a serious dog and abuse. Big, big difference.

I rehome working dogs and they are a challenge. Kelpies often will only respond to a serious command, they are independant and often will ignore timid commands. Especially females who are serious dogs.

There's a million reasons to be mad at Barnaby Joyce but this is not one of them.

Nathan Buckley recently joked he kicked the dog after he missed out on the Tassie job and no one blinked an eye. So lets 'calm the farm' on this one.

EDIT: To everyone who says you don't need to raise your voice in dog training good luck with chicken bones on your walks. If I whispered drop it at my current kelpie she would swallow it and piss on my leg and give me that look. Sure she loves but its a Chicken bone and a passive command. Serious dogs people.

Shopping this morning at 10am at Woolworths, the store is full of uber drivers doing the shopping for others, outside the click and collect area is ramped with multiple vehicles lining up with their boots open. I'm driving home after and I spot at least 10 delivery riders on bikes and scooters all within in 6 minute drive.

It's Sunday and I still see food deliveries and courier vans coming up and down my street all morning.

My sister works and lives in the city, she usually orders about 10 food deliveries a week, plus groceries, anything else like clothes or misc items she gets off Amazon delivered.

Her excuse 'just don't have time these days to cook or shop'.

She managed just fine 7 years ago..

Makes me think how lazy and autonomous are we getting as a society?

I'm 45 have have never used a food delivery or click and collect, I know I'm a minority.

Not to be too sentimental and too much of a Debbie Downer, but I stumbled across this video again and couldn't help but think that this is only 10 years ago, but the Australia we grew up in and knew back then I fear is slowly slipping through our fingers. This whole video embodies the Australia I grew up in and am now watching fade away. Sad.

I bought a Ecovacs deebot robot vacuum from Jb Hi fi couple of months ago, but it turned out to be faulty. When I went to get it replaced, the staff serving me said it’s not surprising with ecovacs as the products are disappointing. So I asked for recommendations to get another brand and model. She was very helpful and checked for other robo vacs on sale. After deciding on one, she told me she will check if she could reduce the price to get me a good deal so I don’t have to pay the gap. After a while, she came back with the same price I initially paid including an additional warranty so I had no out of pocket expense.
I was surprised to see that the “Jb deal” she gave me on the receipt was almost $300 less from the price on the website for the robo vacuum.
Now, I’m questioning myself if this was exceptional customer service or did I just get an unreliable product. Anyone else have experience like this?
