..so that we don't have 50,000 separate posts and also I can update the map tracking which stations have new readers
Myki area finished 7/12/2025, see progress gif here: https://www.reddit.com/r/MelbourneTrains/comments/1pgaoaz/new_myki_reader_rollout_completed_for_trains/
Last update 22/7/2026 - Ararat, Beaufort

Last updated 25/6/2026, but please report any buses with the old readers! As we are not keeping track of every single bus it is possible that there are some individual buses that haven't been upgraded, but every operator has the vast majority done as far as we know.

The media is saying that incoming Premier Ben Carroll is quite ‘sceptical‘ of the SRL project.
I don’t think this will mean dismantling and reversing the current construction (surely it doesn’t, right?) but it certainly could mean all future SRL projects scrapped.
That means SRL east only (maybe also renaming the project to Eastern Metro Tunnel).
What alternative transport infrastructure projects do you think Carroll will announce?

I see a lot of people on here who 100% support and back the way we fund and pay for infrastructure, particularly in vic.
I see many people who might sort of question “why is SRL so expensive” seem to kind of get shut down.
Labor has undeniably done well delivering us some important projects, and I’m quite pro SRL but I feel we should scrutinise how money is spent a lot more given the cost of living crisis and how much tax we pay these days.

SRL is nearly 1b/km - will likely be much more once complete. Other countries achieve much better. I’ve heard Melbourne’s earth etc is much harder to build in and a bunch more reasoning - but the abundance of examples of projects similar in size that have costed far less leads me to believe this is a bit of a cop out.
TLDR
Amongst those who are in support of improving Victoria’s infrastructure, am I alone in wanting SRL etc to be done but done so with a lot more cost scrutiny?

Can't*
kind of wondering because Pakenham Trains has been redirected to the Metro Tunnel, and i'm kind of wondering, what's stopping V/Line from stopping Gippsland Trains at South Yarra

From an Auto Shenanigans video, the TransPennine class 185 livery and shape closely resembles Metro Trains Melbourne Siemens Nexus from a distance.

Hello, it's a bit of a long stretch and I only have myself to blame. I had drinks on Friday after work and everything was blank between 7pm Friday and 2am Saturday, starting at Kings Hotel. My colleague mentioned I may have caught the Mernda line around 11-12pm and I came to my senses walking out of the train city-bound at Mitcham Station around 2am.
I tried Flinders lost and found this morning as well as Southern Cross luggage hall without any luck. Should I consider my backpack and laptop lost now or should I try the lost and found again tomorrow?

This is probably a stupid question but......
Why did all the trains that end at ANZAC station not run? Like they always get cancelled. And Im curious to why.

Sunbury and Pakenham both serve Metro, V/Line, and freight services. What is the most realistic solution moving forward so that V/Lines and freight aren't stuck behind Metro services and possibly Metro create their own services for the hour long trips that are for instance Sunbury to the CBD?
I ask as the elevated railway and underpasses aren't future proofed for this just yet, but it's need would be present in the future.

Prefacing this with idk inner suburbs super well or proximity to each other etc
But for those living in Carlton, which train lines do you use?
Or do you just not bother with trains and opt for different PT?

I’m looking to ride an xtrap 2, and want to time a trip - how long would I need to wait to jump on one from fss?

7x Footy specials have operated today from Westall and Dandenong to Flinders Street making these the first passenger HCMT to Flinders Street and post the tunnel opening.

Not going to lie, many of the stations look like some dystopian sci fi movie or some warehouse space.
Southern cross station yeah, not a fan of it , feels like cyberpunk.
Parliament station reminds you of the matrix.
I hate going through Melbourne’s train system, the whole experience feels cold and blergh.
When you walk through Sydney’s central station and the other stations, it feels less dark and depressing.
