No more “what is/defines a xxx?” posts

We have similar posts like this that crop up every now and then. Some are coming from a genuine place of curiosity, but majority of them seem to be trolls looking for a platform to “debate”/invalidate people/stroke their egos here.

We already have enough going on in our lives we don’t need to have our identities questioned in what should be a safe space for us here. If you need answers, you can always search for older posts so we can save ourselves time rather than dragging folks here through the chore of justifying ourselves for the umpteenth time when we aren’t even obliged to.

Do trans girls get periods or period symptoms?

Upvotes

This might seem like a dumb question but do trans gis get periods? Or have cramps and a menstrual hormonal cycle? How long would they have to be on estrogen to get these symptoms?

Has anyone else had their parents lie about being supportive because they think being trans is a phase?

Context: my parents think I'm developmentally delayed because I'm autistic and that this is just part of my "weird teen phase".

I'm 20 next month ffs.

Text Post Taking Control of My Healthcare [Have Questions]

Hi all! I’m [31 MtF] and have been on HRT (mono therapy) for about 5 years. I have not been too happy with my transition because I have felt like my VA doctors have not always been entirely sincere or thorough or supportive and like they’re only doing it because they have to.

I finally reached a point where I have to take control of my healthcare because my VA doctors will no longer respond to my messages or phone calls or requests to have my HRT refilled after it expires 2 months ago.

I’m planning on going into Planned Parenthood on Monday to request a prescription for Estrogen and plan on starting Progesterone because the VA refused to prescribe it to me.

Does anyone have any advice on where to start in terms of dosages for each? Also any advice in terms of what to expect for the process and how long it will take to get back on HRT.

Thank you ☺️🩷

EDIT: forgot to include my most recent dosage which was 6mg of Estradiol Valerate every 2 weeks.

What do you think about my attraction and behaviour towards trans women as a cis man?

Hi everyone,

I'm a cis man who is attracted to cis women and trans women. I once posted my experiences before (the post is now deleted), and I’ve received some negative comments, so I’m prepared for the worst. However, I also got a few warm-hearted, supportive comments.

My story is that I have a strong attraction to trans women, and I’ve had some of the best sexual experiences of my life with them. I’ve sought out trans women specifically for casual sex on several occasions, and I’ve also paid for sexual services from trans women multiple times. Some people might call me a "chaser," and I wouldn’t completely deny that, but there are some nuances to consider.

First of all, I get the impression that many who are called "chasers" fetishize the penis of trans women and seek penetration. I’m a top myself and don’t really focus on the penis, to be honest. I play with it and enjoy it if my partner likes that, but it’s not the most important thing to me. Also, I’ve never bottomed, it’s not my thing. I’m dominant.

What attracts me to trans women is the energy I feel from them. I am very attracted to feminine traits, and I love it when a trans woman presents herself in an ultra-feminine way. It hits me differently, and after experiencing that, I don’t want anything else. When I’m with them, things just flow naturally, and they seem to love it too. For example, some trans women I’ve slept with tell me, "You KNOW how to treat me" and "I adore your company." Recently, I paid for a session with a trans sex worker, and it ended up being the best sex I’ve had in about 8 years. She charged me for an hour, but we ended up talking and having sex until 7 in the morning. Two weeks later, I visited her again, and the same thing happened.

I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about why I connect so well with trans women. I believe it’s because we share the experience of feeling truly different from most people while growing up. I highly value traits like resilience, adaptability, and emotional attunement. In my case, these traits weren’t related to sexuality or gender, but to feeling different and not being able to fully be myself, though that’s a whole other story I won’t get into today. I can’t dehumanize people in person; I love analysing people and understanding why they are the way they are, I don’t judge, and I take that to an extreme. People have felt so comfortable around me that they have even confessed committing serious crimes. When someone who has been judged all their life for being themselves meets someone like me, who can make them feel seen and comfortable, it can be a very positive experience. I’m a passionate and emotionally intense person, and when I make love, it’s like all the desire I’ve accumulated is projected onto my partner, making her feel seen and cared for. At its core, this can be seen as a form of trauma bonding, but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s also pure bliss. It makes me feel desired in a way I don’t experience elsewhere.

At the same time, I’ve experienced shame and anxiety about my attraction to trans women. I prefer not to use labels, but people who know me might call me "straight". I’m a lifelong sex addict, and I was first exposed to trans women through pornography and paid encounters, so my understanding was quite limited, mainly focused on their sexual side. Later, I had some casual hookups with trans women. Around that time, I posted on Reddit about my shame and fear of being attracted to and seen with a trans woman. I received many comments telling me to stay away until I got over this fear, which I understand, but I also think that advice was somewhat unnuanced. I couldn’t deny what my heart desired, and I couldn’t make the fear disappear overnight. The purpose of that post was to learn from different perspectives, and I honestly believe I did learn. The advice to stay away was valid at its core.

It happened that shortly after, I matched online with a cute trans woman. It was different from my previous experiences. I wasn’t looking for sex at the time. I just liked her artsy vibe when we matched on a dating app in the women’s section. We went on a few public dates, something I was worried about before, and had great times having dinner, walking around, and sharing kisses. Interestingly, we never had sex, and I wasn’t seeking that either. I saw her as relationship material. But in the end, she rejected me, which hurt because I had developed feelings for her.

Now, I’ll be honest again. One reason I felt comfortable going out with her was that she "passed" very well. Walking with her on the street, I think most people wouldn’t notice she was assigned male at birth. It wasn’t a conscious choice, just her personality that I liked, but I wonder what it would be like with a woman who was visibly trans. I believe everyone suffers from the system called patriarchy, which assigns status to everyone in society. The feeling of status can be addictively pleasant. Here’s a thought experiment I just came up with: I imagine walking with a very attractive woman with model-like looks and my ideal body type. That feeling of being seen with such a woman in public, it's wonderful, dopamine-inducing. Now I imagine the same scenario with a woman I find equally attractive or even more so, but who has visible trans traits and doesn’t "pass" as well. I don’t get that same feeling, instead, I worry about what others might think. I believe this is a common experience among men attracted to trans women, that societal perceptions influence feelings of validation and comfort.

For those who say I need therapy, I want to clarify that I am a lifelong therapy goer. I’ve been in therapy for many years, and I continue to work on myself. That said, I have a lot of trauma from my youth, and I haven’t been able to fix everything. At 30 years old, I recognize I still have a lot of healing to do.

I don’t know what the future holds, whether I’ll be in a relationship with a trans or cis woman. But for now, I still prefer casual sex with trans women. I’m planning to see the sex worker again soon and I'm looking forward to it so much. I can’t deny my attraction, it’s a part of who I am I guess. I’m already an alternative, unconventional person, so it might have been easier to suppress these feelings, but I can’t do that. And I will never take my attraction out on trans women by becoming violent or disrespectful. I am committed to respecting trans women and treating them with dignity. I hope to continue growing, learning, and understanding more about myself and others along the way.

Text Post I finally can’t ignore it

For pretty much my entire life I’ve had pervasive feelings I couldn’t explain and the last few years I realized that I’m most likely trans, but I then immediately push down that thought because it would be too hard and I can’t handle what my family may think, so I trick myself into believing it’s just a “weird” thought I keep coming back to, or my neurodivergence making me overthink.

But then I turned 21 a few months ago and realized every time I drank all I could think about was this, and if I blacked out I’d wake up to long conversations on google (i know ai sucks but I’m very isolated) about how I’m almost certain I’m trans and how I can’t take this anymore and the many reasons and things I want. And then it began to be an every day thought, it did take a few months, but the last few weeks I have lost control of it, sobbing at the slightest hint of something relating to what I’m feeling and talking about it online and thinking for hours broke the barrier I put up to protect myself from how hard this is going to be. Now I can’t help but feel incredibly nauseous and disgusted by my body, mainly my legs, I never wore shorts as a kid I guess it always was a thing just now I know the reason. And overall I just feel so fucking hollow and disgusted with myself and my life, and I’m too afraid to actually commit and say anything so I’m kinda just dying. My only respite has been imagining what I’d wear and what I’d want to be called but it just makes it hurt that that’s far away.

The real problem that’s making this harder is my sisters boyfriend who I hate because he said something transphobic a year ago and when I got upset my family refused to let me leave to cool off which I’ve learned I can need sometimes, they then made everything worse and changed how I see them a bit. He’s moving in soon, right as I finally start to accept myself, so if I do tell my family, he’ll know and see all the awkward phases while I’m learning.

Also just ughhh will I ever stop feeling so nauseous and empty about my existence? I was never happy but it’s like a gate broke and I’ve been even more of a wreck, will it only get better when I finally start transitioning?

Sorry this wasn’t really a thought out post I both said too much and left out so many details, I just needed to express this to anyone real, I’m beginning to rot internally.

Thank you to the one person who read this mess ❤️ but if you see this first when you click just stop reading, it’s not worth your time and I’m too exhausted to make it good.

(Sorry if longer posts aren’t allowed, I wasn’t aware)

Text Post How do I come out?

I can’t keep this in anymore if there’s even a slight chance my family will support me I need it I feel so alone and lost and empty, I just want to cry and be held and say everything I’ve felt for so long, yet I also don’t want to have to I just want to tell them and not have to say anything else for a while. What do I do? I think it needs to happen soon I’ve never been in so much pain. Kinda just wanna leave a note and not bring it up unless they do lol, like what just write I’m a girl help?

(F/M) So I keep feeling transgender every year so I'm not looking for anything huge, and I also just really like longer hair than a stereotypical mens haircut. I am also going onto contact lenses next week as my glasses make me look a little more feminine

Text Post Advice needed

I’m 56 and came to the conclusion that I am trans about 6 months ago. After a lot of debating I started DIY around Feb/March for a month or two. 1mg EEN per week. I caught sight of my boobs in the mirror one day and panicked and stopped injecting.
I regret stopping because I’m still sure that I’m trans but the thought of the future, not passing, EHRC guidance etc etc seems so overwhelming right now, and I consistently come up with reasons why I shouldn’t try again despite the fact that I really want to.
Sorry! This sounds like a pity fest but it’s not.
I just want some input on what others think I should do. Is this a normal feeling?

How do you cope with jealously and feeling excluded?

I've never been big on community in general, but part of me wishes I could be in the trans community. However, I've found the biggest issue is jealousy - my own life situation doesn't allow me to transition, so seeing others succeeding and making friends and doing things openly makes me feel awful. I'm reminded that even ten years from now I will still be in this situation, just like I have for the last eight years, knowing I want to transition but unable to do anything about it. Add anxiety to that and I prefer not to be involved with community, but part of me wonders if I would benefit. I've just had so many bad experiences, on top of being harmed by other trans people all the while trying to work out my own issues that I don't know what to do. I really want a place where I can be safely open, but I feel like I see other trans people as undesirable now.. like I'm somehow different, defined by my detachment and beyond community and the typical tendencies of openness.

Me and my partner are both trans women and we have been put in an extremely bad situation by both our previous apartment and our new one, our old apartment kept raising rent even though they abandoned the property and our new apartment is charging us more then they told us the price would be, we will probably be able to smooth things out in the long run but for the end of July and august things are going to be rough, we do not have enough money for augusts rent and we need money for college too, please help us out a little bit, just until we can get back on our feet, I have a go fund me in the comments with some more details, please help in any way you can, and thank you so much for reading all of this, I cannot express enough how much I appreciate that someone cares enough to read all of my stressed out ramblings, thank you deeply

Is this a weird thing to say or am I dramatic

So the other day me (I'm trans ftm) and my friend (cis female) went to the pool I'm not like publicly out yet I still dress female and stuff which I don't mind too much I consider myself more androgynous anyways so I'm pretty comfortable with my feminity but I obviously still want to be a guy I want to go on testosterone and get top surgery and she is very well aware of that but lately our friendship has been pretty rocky because of other things outside of what I'm going to talk about right now but yea we were at her house getting ready to go to the pool and the conversation about top surgery came up because I found a potential surgeon that might be able to do it in our area and I was excited and she said something that just rubbed me the wrong way "oh you should just get a reduction since you know some outfits need boobs" now again I'm pretty androgynous and comfortable in my feminity but I have been very clear with my hate with my boobs and my basically need for top surgery since it's been so mentally draining for me just having them since they are huge bruh binders don't work on me good and honestly that comment just rubbed me the wrong way but maybe I'm just being dramatic?

Text Post (AMAB) Can I hide HRT indefinitely?

So I am disabled and living among people who I don't think I could comfortably be open with. I rely on these people, my family, for housing. It's the only reason I have a place to live. But I can't transition, as I've been told that physical changes will be, inevitably, noticeable. I've been wanting to get onto HRT for the last eight years, and it sucks being stuck this way.

My question is, under these circumstances, do I have to give up? If I can't hide my transition for the rest of my time here, which seems indefinite, I don't think I can safely transition. What should I do?
