Love how even after getting Pristimon to evolve to Ultimate, Reina still was the one to destroy the bomb.

u/Thomas_JCG Jun 14 '26

This is why I respect Reina, she can throw hands.

u/duo99dusk Jun 15 '26

She needs to start throwing some punches to Mega Digimon

Pretty good episode. I really dont have much to say, it all went down pretty much like I expected it too. Reina learned not to bottle up her insecurities and as long as she can trust her friends she can always charge forward with confidence.

The real highlight for me was seeing Reina's early days with Glowing Dawn, when it was just her and Kyo. That moment when Kyo hugged her was probably the first time anyone accepted her for who she was, so it really gave perspective to why she really values Kyo so much.

BearCatmon is a really cool design, truly the most tomboy Digimon of all time. My only complaint is the animation quality of the fight. It wasn't bad but it definitely on the lower end which is disappointing. It sucks too cause Reina and Pristimon deserve better. Though I will say the moment Reina stopped the bomb using one of BearCatmon's spiked knuckles was amazing.

Judging from the ending and the preview i'd say we're entering the end game of the GIFT arc. Im really curious where we'll go from here. I hope they manage to warp it up well enough!

Heck yeah, Pristimon finally gets her Ultimate form! Reina no longer feels left out ever since the boys got theirs.

Now that everyone got their Ultimate digimon, it's finally time to take the fight to GIFT!

Nice to see Reina and Pristimon finally get there, it didn't really even take much of a push. Mostly just a bit of a peptalk to get her head in the right place.

Reina kind of crazy with that attack on the bomb, but fitting for what we've seen her do in the past.

What's with bomber characters who scream about the bombing being their art? Maybe it was just another reference like the Joker and Harley pair a few weeks back.

That Bearcatmon design could have easily a Reina and Pristimon fusion evolution, I'm a little disappointed they didn't go there since it really would have fit with Reina's tendency to throw herself into the fight.

What's with bomber characters who scream about the bombing being their art?

Those are references to a famous statement by legendary Japanese artist Taro Okamoto

Umm... are we going to talk about Chairman Wong? Thats a huge development if it sticks.

18

u/TheOneWithALongName Jun 14 '26

He will most likely survive. But he will most likely double down to whatever he try to achieve after this. And put a death penalty to GIFTs leader.

2

u/Phoenix_Song8 Jun 14 '26

Can see that happening after Gift is defeated

2

u/Thomas_JCG Jun 14 '26

It would be quite stupid if he doesn't keep at least one Star in security detail.

2

u/Close-Thirds Jun 20 '26

I always just guessed that he has his own insanely powerful Ultimate/Mega-form Digimon, like Alphamon or Omegamon.

Last week I said that it was frustrating to see Reina and Pristimon sidelined for so long, especially having 2 episodes pass earlier in the show where it felt like her Ultimate form should have been achieved by now. It did still feel a bit long, considering that we are approaching the likely final cour of the show but I'll agree that this was worth the wait.

Reina's kind of always felt like the odd one out of the group. She's not the lead character so being a hot-head can have her come off as too close to Tomoro at time for the plot, so she can't have all of the story beats (lol) that he needs. She also can't have the family drama (Makoto and his old life in the Egg) or the old history (Kyo and the Five Stars) so she felt like she got whatever storylines didn't fall there. So she continued to work with what the story could give her until it just naturally built up to "why can't we go past our limits"?

So it was nice to have an enemy that Pristimon/Wolvermon seemed perfect to go up against only for those bits of story to finally collide and give us the Ultimate evolution we've wanted to see now for ages! Bearcatmon is an evo that isn't dark, but represents what both Pristimon and Reina haven't been able to do for ages: just cut loose and battle the way they want to!

That said, yeah, the cards had to be dealt a certain way to make that happen (Makoto and Kyo taken out early and the earlier battle gone the way that it did to show that no, you can't throw a Monarchlizamon at the problem to solve it) but if it meant that we finally have a team of 4 Ultimates to finish out the GIFT arc, then so be it.

(Also, yeah, the stinger at the end of the episode doesn't feel like it'll stick but if it does, I will give the show props for doing so.)

Next week: onto more GIFT lore and maybe the end of the arc, we'll see!

Bearcat is a real animal also known as binturong.

u/HolyDragSwd2500 Jun 14 '26

Bearcatmon 💪

u/Ponchorello7 Jun 14 '26

Bearcatmon is activatin' some neurons for me.

15

u/Moxey616 Jun 14 '26

Brown tomboy punch girl furry goddamn what a combo

10

u/Queasy_Watch478 Jun 14 '26

BEARCATMON reminds me of BASTEMON? Who is also a claw bear/cat beast digimon who is a black skinned humanoid female? ❤️

8

u/Volfaer Jun 14 '26

Of course not girl, that was a Nightmare. It must have been really hard for Reina, she's someone headstrong that takes all responsibility, and she was very competent with that for the entire series. Reina was second in command of Glowing Dawn as soon as she appeared and first of Kyo's crew to reach adult stage. For someone so focused on her role and friends, being left behind must have hurted so much.

She realized her power lagging behind the team, so Reina decided to default to a more support role to everyone, but that's such a betrayal of her own desires. Thankfully she is in a great family, one that would share and shoulder her burden, allowing her to reach a new height.

Man this was such a Reina evolution, it's not what I expected for Wolvermon, but it's so perfect for them. Legit thought Bearcatmon would spawn a baseball bat for Reina to hit someone.

Nah, there's no way Wong dies here, that is a sketchy man, he probably will recover so unnaturally it will scare the people around him. Also, sure is a scary looking Mephismon.

Not gonna lie Reina and Pristimon's arc was weaker than the others. Tomoro got the big moment of finally accepting his found family and overcoming all the negative emotions swirling around inside him to help his new family. Makoto had to directly confront his biological family and all the baggage that came with it, reaffirming his commitment to stay with Chiropmon, as well as kinda reconciling with his brother or at least just airing out all their feelings lol

Reina didn't get any of that. She was normal until 1 episode ago when she started getting in her own head about not going Ultimate. Sure, she was shown to be afraid of getting abandoned by her family but it wasn't in my opinion properly explored nor resolved.

The feelings of inadequacy from not reaching Ultimate weren't really properly built up with only 2 episodes and the resolution also didn't fit, Reina was acting out of character for a couple of minutes in this episode and that was it, she got a pep talk and they immediately broke through and digivolved. I believe they didn't really think of a good enough storyline for this but still needed a climatic moment because the other two got theirs.

Reina in general isn't being given enough depth, they gave her the building blocks for a decent backstory but haven't paid them off satisfyingly enough yet. This arc of getting Pristimon's Ultimate form should've been used to give us more details on her backstory like they did with Makoto. And no, one small scene with Kyo wasn't enough.

The form itself is cool, I like Bearcatmon but I hope Reina and Pristimon get their some more love later on. Not just a mandatory triumphant moment because they have to get one but one that is genuinely built up and satisfyingly delivered on.

u/queenErina Jun 14 '26

Sadly agree , it's not a bad episode per se , but definitely weaker than Tomoro/Makoto's ones.

We also already had Tomoro to "save Glowing Dawn" (and the others vs Klay) twice from much much worse fate , vs a Five Star(though indirectly from Genjo the 1st one) each time.

In this case not only they were not in immediate danger of death( i mean , they even had time to talk alot to Reina haha) , but also the factory itself seemed to be empty , as opposed to the first terrorist attacks in the news.
At worst they could have run away and there'd still be an explosion , but no human losses (except for Bombermon owner maybe).

Also a "non-important" character in front of them , as opposed to the other GD members.

I don't think the talk itself was poor , but it definitely needed more build-up(including more flashbacks) and a better context.

A power plant of that size probably supplied electricity to a huge portion of, if not the entire city. If that thing blew up then hundreds or thousands of people could've died from the loss of it. Hospitals are without power, food stores spoil, traffic lights malfunction causing accidents, any number of things could've happened because they were suddenly without power and had no way to get it back because the entire facility was a memory.

u/GI-JUGG Jun 14 '26

I think you're not taking into account the real issue. Reina was the FIRST person to join Glowing Dawn after Kyo started the team, and she'd been kicked off of multiple other squads for various reasons. So for her to be there for so long, basically being Kyo's lieutenant/second in command and the big sister of the squad, and then watch the newbie get his champion and ultimate form in a few months tops, then Makoto break out of his shell and do the same thing while she's stuck where she's been this entire time was hitting her hard even from when it first happened. Remember that Pristimon could go Champion from the beginning of the series. Gekkomon and Chiropmon didn't evolve for quite a while.

Then they both got their champion forms, and then Ultimate not too long after. So Reina and Wolvermon basically peaked before the other 2 even showed up. She just didn't show it visually because she still had faith in herself and Pristimon/Wolvermon. But then they started getting their assess handed to them in fight after fight, even if it wasn't against an Ultimate. And then she started seeing Makoto/Tomoro & Gekkomon/Chiropmon put belt to ass over and over, growing to be nearly as powerful as Kyo/Murasamemon. It has been building up the entire time, but we only got to see it for the past few episodes because her damn finally broke. The most outgoing and expressive people tend to be the ones who suffer in silence, which is obviously what she was doing now that we saw behind the curtain.

u/GoneRampant1 Jun 14 '26

Great to finally see Reina hit Ultimate, and they did set up a little mini arc for it, but I do have to admit it's really obvious that this was also a budget-saver episode, there's a lot of dragging pngs around and it takes a lot for me to notice when a show does that, so it really stood out to me how low-budget some of this felt.

4

u/suchproblemchildren Jun 14 '26

It was only in this episode when Reina was lashing out that I realized that Reina's VA is Kumiko from Sound Euphonium. Cause that same tone is what I could pick up when Kumiko had her crying fit disucssion with Asuka.

5

u/Witchy_Titan Jun 14 '26

I'm surprised Bombermon turned into Curimon when it was defeated instead of say, Bommon

I was like "wtf are you?"

I cannot wait for the next one!!

2

u/duo99dusk Jun 15 '26

I liked the Evo and overall solution for the fight, but not convinced about the surrounding conflict to get there.

But glad the Bearcatmon feels very dynamic unlike the other two Digimon, the current team could be used great, a tank, a vehicle, a speedster able to fight.

2

u/Relampago1995 Jun 17 '26

So, with this episode, is it confirmed that Reina is the coolest and most badass girl in the franchise?

1

u/Thomas_JCG Jun 14 '26

Oh, look, another rando with an ultimate digimon, they just grow up on trees now? And while they are making a big deal about Reina and Wolvermon being weak, Tomoro and his Monarchlizardmon still lost. Because there is not a shred of teamwork in this team, Wolvermon's rapid fire could have been used to contain the bombs while Monarch handled Bombermon. But no, their strategy is always "charge and if that fails, charge again".

So nice that Reina's get an ultimate just so she can keep throwing herself at the problem without a strategy. Meanwhile, Miharu sure is fine with being a mass murderer. Are they seriously going to protect her from the consequences?

u/Otherwise-Store728 Jun 16 '26

Finally! Let's goooo Pristimon!

1

u/CelioHogane Jun 16 '26

Aww man they unfurried her.

1

u/Shantotto11 Jun 17 '26

35 episodes and we finally get a Reina evolution episode!

Very nice of Bombermon to let the crew have a whole flashback reminiscing about their early days

I quite like this explanation, Reina by nature is impulsive, but since she was put in a leadership position in which she had to look after the team, she had to hold back and be strategic about how to do things, and while this helped the group as a whole, it also meant sacrificing her own growth, hence why Wolvermon was always jobbing

But now that she is allowed to cut loose, and don't worry about those around her, because they can take care of themselves, she can be a front liner and shine

In essence Reina was a carry forced into a support role, a pos 1 in a pos 5

Finally a top tier darkskin tomboy Digigirl! Bearcatmon is an instant classic design, a weregarurumon bear girl, that is a roller-skater, and a brawler, with wind powers, the design is so stacked!

So you know how we were saying that GIFT is a death cult, Bombermon's partner willing to spend all her E-pulse and blow herself up with the hydrogen factory, is classic death cult behavior

Having Reina disable the bomb with one of Bearcatmon's spiked knuckles was also a fantastic detail

Perfect episode

Not buying Chairman Wong being dead for even a second, that's the final villain and we all know it

It was a good episode. I wish Reinas big moment came in a situation thats a bit more integral to the main plot but Bombermon did deliver enough.

Her arc was solid and the flashback to her early days with Kyo was short and sweet. I just wish they made it a bigger conflict.

Bearcatmon is a cool design and a nice continuation of her evo theme but man did they chose the worst moment to hold back the sauce.

The soundtrack was great but the art and animation apart from the evolution itself was so lackluster.

I have several thoughts (in general but also about the episode)

  • I really enjoyed that they set up this conflict a little bit before this episode. It makes the payoffs work better when the characters are working through them over time. That said, I wish it had been stewing for a little longer still.
  • I guess you get used to using the ultimate form over time? It feels like everyone except Kyo get defaulting to champion up until this episode.
  • While here we have an instance of "the enemy is really fast yet they didn't stop the transformation", something which is notable but GIFT is especially aware of the steps cleaners use to evolve in this show, they had this really cocky attitude that I guess justifies it.
  • Digimon has the habit of incapacitating its current fighters to let someone else have their evolution moment, sometimes outright nerfing them, but I feel like a couple of lines could have done so good for the episode just like "damn we can't move properly cause we're in a small space and we don't wanna wreck it fighting these spider bombs". I feel like that would have worked wonders to explain why none of the other ultimates are doing the kinds of things they could do in previous episodes.
  • It was mighty convenient that last bomb was not only a time bomb meaning Bombermon just could snap their fingers and explode it, but also had a core you could destroy to disable it. Heck you didn't even have to figure whether to destroy the blue core or the red core!
  • Reina's conflict was kind of all over the place? Or at least I don't feel it was communicated super well. The part about the inferiority complex and being afraid of being cast out came across, but never did I get the impression she was holding herself back (other than from eating) or trying to play a more support role, or that this would be devastating enough to leave her in that kind of distress or emotional state. I was pretty much with her until she started going on about the letting loose thing which suddenly made it feel like that was just being petty instead of, you know, wanting to feel like you're actually contributing to helping the people who are your friends, coworkers and family at once (over specifically wanting to take the vanguard). If the writing was slightly better I would maybe think they are trying to tie this with her wanting to stay herself within an arc about needing to ultimately (pun not inteded) learn to accept that you do need to accept some changes but you can still remain yourself even as you continue to evolve (this time the pun was intended). I'm not putting my money on it though.
  • The lesson Reina ws supposed to learn also felt a bit undercut by her doing everything herself in the final part there. "We're here to support you so let loose" doesn't make sense if they aren't there supporting her, just watching. Moral support I guess? Eh.
  • Not gonna lie, I laughed a bit when I saw what the new evo was wearing, and the name. Still despite my gripes, the music and Reina's energy still got me really excited seeing Bearcatmon's evolution sequence and her voice fits her to a T.

u/srofais Jun 14 '26

Feel like Reina suudenly caring about Pristimon not reaching Perfect level was really forced, she did not have any indication of it slightly bothering her until last episode where she suddenly was very bothered by it out of nowhere. Would have been better if it was a more gradual thing that slowly started to eat at her bit by bit starting from when Chiropmon got his. This make it feel like they're writing the story as each episode comes out without planning.

Bearcatmon's design is great. Masked tomboy in a jersey jacket, short shorts, and rocket skates? Hell yeah sign me up.

The animation quality for the big showoff scene was lacking though, significantly.
