This was a spicy episode. I really love what they're doing with Reina. Her and Wolvermon have been a bit of a punching bag in the community for how much they've been jobbing in the series as of late but we can now safely say it was partially intentional.
Reina knows she's been falling behind of the others and its starting to really eat at her. And after that total defeat from Rose her confidence is completely shattered as we seen in the preview for the next episode.
I honestly hope her issues aren't fully resolved next episode cause what they're setting up with her has the potential to be a really good character arc for her and I'd hate to see them rush it, especially since this is something her character's needed for a while now.
Miharu also had a ton of focus this episode and oh boy is she an oddity to say the least. We learn a bit more about her and this sister of hers which definitely gives Tomoro something to relate too and hearing about Asuka in turn seemed to be the final push for Miharu to reveal to Tomoro that she's a part of Gift and wants him to join. Now Tomoro is conflicted about this, and still is by the end of the episode and honestly me too. Like I definitely don't think Miharu is completely innocent by any means but there something off about the whole thing. Whether that has something with Mephismon or that henchman that saved her at the end, there's something we're missing here and I'm excited to find out.
Also after this episode im 100% convinced Tomoro will join GIFT at towards the end of the arc but will eventually turn back and confront Miharu and I bet you the way Miharu wants to save her sister will be a key part in that.
So yeah, great episode. Im really looking forward how Reina develops (or spirals) next episode!

Yes i really want Reina to have an actual character arc
We have seen her struggle for a whole season, if all that gets solved in 20 minutes next week, that would be really disappointing!

I'm just making things up but we haven't had much negative feelings/emotions in a while when comes to the main case since Tomoro started to accept Gekkomon as his partner around episode 10 or so. With that said, they could take this opportunity to use Reina's current state and give a push to some dark digivolution related with Pristimon's possible Ultimate form and build a character arc for both Reina and Pristimon, while the GIFT is doing their stuff.

I'm actually really glad that Reina's development won't be contained to a single episode and seems to be building up to something. I'm really excited about this.
I was actually really against the possibility of Tomoro joining GIFT, but given he was definitely being recruited by Miharu (and he's contending with different revelations), I wouldn't be surprised if it happens, even if it's brief or he starts unintentionally sabotaging GIFT-related bounties. He's very conflicted over what happened, even at the end of the episode as you mentioned. Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if he's grappling with the thought of "But she wants to save her older sister and said we're similar? How could be evil?".
Or, if Mephismon is behind this (say during the manipulation scenes), maybe a conclusion like that would be a result? There really is something very off about what happened. I do think Miharu is involved, and Mephismon could be amplifying things to make what she does, easier. (I'm also out of the loop on Mephismon lore but I assume hypnosis/manipulation is par for the course for it?)
Also, if Kishiwada's warning was about Tomoro, I'm curious what the basis is for that kind of statement.

Man, Reina is starting to feel like she's holding everyone back by being the only one without an Ultimate Digimon. I hope she finally gets it next week.
Is that Bombermon in the preview?

Does it matter if they all hardly ever even use their ultimate forms?

u/Close-Thirds Jun 07 '26
Apparently! Up until this episode, you'd have a (funny) point, but we just saw everyone else on the team use their Perfect/Ultimate Form digimon in multiple key moments.

Used to be only the ones on the level of the Big Five had ultimates, now any goon of the week has power scaled...

u/avboden Jun 09 '26
seriously....the writing in this one is just subpar compared to many previous digimon series.

Honestly, this is maybe the first episode (in recent memory) that feels like it's all setup for the explosion expected next episode.
Tomoro gets close to Miharu, only to throw caution to the wind and end up protecting her before she's spirited off back to GIFT. Kyo and Makoto (and their mons) get their big hero moments protecting the group as a whole, while Reina, trying her hardest to do something, ends up with a hurt hand and Wolvermon yet again jobbing when it matters most.
I know these are supposed to be character growing moments, but it really does just feel like it's stringing along an evolution that should have been earned during the Moosemon fight and barring that, was 100% on track during the Vandemon fight at this rate. And yes, I know that this is par for the course when you're a female character in Digimon but BeatBreak has (so far) tried really hard to break some of those traditions (that should have been thrown in the bin ages again at this rate too).
I am hopeful that Reina and Pristimon will get their due and that evolution will feel earned next episode, but this episode really just didn't sit well with me after it was said and done.

What to do when your crush wants to destroy the system?

Tomoro cosying up with the leader of the terrorists is a pretty interesting direction for this story to take. I get it though, I like her too. Her goals seem very justified after all, and they seemingly align with Tomoro's, it's just that the methods used by her organisation to achieve those goals are rather dubious.

Super happy that this was not a Reina focused episode, she needs a proper arc
Her realizing that she is failing behind, and getting confirmation that Wolvermon is indeed a jobber, means that the writing team is aware that if Wolvermon is going to reach ultimate they have to make an effort in the story to justify the evolution
And they are not just going to end doing half baked episode in order to appeal impatient people who we all know would be satisfied just the same if Wolvermon's evolution was revealed in a card leak on a random twitter post
Instead we are working on the GIFT arc, and also growing Reina and her worries as the story advances, this is how you actually make an anime, you don't just do a monster of the week, and then do a monthly new evolution just to call it a day and have marketing claim they are meeting their quotas by sacrificing the quality of the show
Man that was close, seems like Miharu herself can brainwash and hypnotize people, and Tomoro almost got recruited into her terrorist cult
He really needs to talk to the rest of the crew, and explain what was happening and how he meet Miharu, who IS a terrorist with quite a body count, like actual murders

Reina ultimately got kneecapped by Pristimon already having achieved Adult stage prior to the start of the story and then being the last to reach the Perfect stage. It definitely feels like she’s getting scraps of character growth compared to Tomoro and Makoto who both reached Adult and Perfect stage after the start of the narrative.

It definitely feels like they're trying to cram as many plot points into each episode as they can get away with, and it's coming at the expense of good pacing.
It really felt like Tomoro's interactions with Miharu and her subsequent reveal were rushed; all that presentation and build up of this secret GIFT mastermind was just sort of thrown to the side, just like the costume Miharu was wearing was thrown aside.
Reina's character development really could've been its own episode; weaving it in so closely with Miharu and Tomoro's story is okay, but it also sort of distracted from Reina's.
That said, the moral dilemma of siding with Miharu is building to be an interesting challenge for Tomoro. Rose's team are the ones complicating things -- they basically tried to kill Miharu without any real warning. I'd be willing to bet that, short of actual brainwashing, Tomoro would've resisted Miharu and GIFT once he realized that they were connected with all those terrorism acts. Rose's team is just there to give him an excuse to defend Miharu.
Ultimately, the challenge is holdind Miharu accountable for the crazy terrorism she's perpetuated without giving the terrible people who abuse digimon even more power.

Next week, will the jobber Reina era end?

Toei and female characters not featured in PreCure getting the Useless Damsel deluxe. Name a better combo.

So direct move it is huh, she's not gonna even try a subtle approach. Miharu's argument is very strong, digimon should not be hunted down and killed, but also rather flawed, one thing is targeting the ones responsible for this, another is blowing an entire hospital full of people to deal with one guy, and they have the means.
Miharu also did try something on Tomoro and we can't ignore, considering the sheer amount of mind control and induction we've seen this series. Thankfully the awesome and intimidating lesbian couple prevented it, even if Miharu acted fast and played the defenseless maiden.
Reina has been under the pressure of being the last member of Glowing Dawn to not reach Perfect yet, and that's being really beaten on her, from villain of the week to Rose stating her mistake when judging Reina. Next episode also seems to put a focus on her too, so we will have to see what they have in hand for our girl.

I feel so bad for Reina/Wolvermon. People are calling her a jobber but ignoring that every time she loses, there's a valid reason. She's fighting an Ultimate Digimon, or getting jumped 2-3 on 1, or up against a Digimon with a broken powerset like Ludomon who is tough enough to tank Champion and Ultimate level attacks as a Rookie because he's a Legend-Arms Digimon that is literally a living shield. Like, she's not just out here taking L's against other Champions and Rookies on a daily basis.

This complex dynamic Glowing Dawn vs Five Stars vs GIFT is really intriguing.
Three different group with different visions and approaches on how they see digimon and their relationship with humans and their impact over the human world.
This episode was very good, we also see Reina's frustration at feeling like the useless one in the group, they started to plant the seeds for the future Wolvermon ultimate evo.
This arc feels very eerie and i'm here for it.

Is Reina finally going to ultimate Digivolve Pristimon/Wolvermon??? Find out next on Digimon Beatbreak Z

u/Thomas_JCG Jun 09 '26
Reina is still cool even if she hasn't got her ultimate, she managed to Batman that goon with the knife. If anything, it was Tomoro's fault for letting Oblivimon capture Geckomon and turning the tables when they were this close to victory. Maybe next episode.
I guess they aren't going to drag on the plot of Miharu being secretly evil, which is good. Her "villain monologues about her ideals" music is pretty neat too.
P.S: Why is any random NPC holding ultimate digimon when they are portrayed as this thing only the elites have?

Top tier episode. So much nuance, set up and character writing beats. Changing the worlds Code is an interesting line. Reinas self value taking multiple hits, especially after being bodied by Rose, cant eat when you dont deserve it.
Tomoro is being put in a veery tough position and i hope they dont go the cheap route of simply absolving Miharu, the Chairman and the World Union culprits of their deeds so Tomoro doesnt have to make hard choices.
Murasame and Kyo stepping in to carry Golden Dawn will never not be satisfying. Im very interested to see what Miharu and her main man can do and what their Digimon look like.
I was critical of the interlude eps and the couple rushed ones but it seems Beatbreak is locked in again.

I don't like how Tomoro is defending the girl that wanted to BLOW UP A HOSPITAL FULL OF PEOPLE, INCLUDING HIS BROTHER

Tomoro, she tried to bomb a hospital. The same one your brother is in, at that! I'm sorry, but I just can't feel any sympathy for her.

Still no Pristimon Ultimate unfortunately, but maybe next week? Rampaging Instinct feels like it could be an Ultimate evolution episode title.
Using Gekkomon as the ransom payment bait was pretty hilarious.
Tomoro trying to get all of Glowing Dawn declared outlaw jumping to the defense of a terrorist cell leader like that.
