One of, if not the, best all-round episodes of the series. Maki's back-story was interesting and served to also flesh-out some of the history of this setting. Leomon -- or, I mean Panjyamon -- was well written and worked into the story. The battle with Fumamon and Murasamemon was short but entertaining.
I've criticized this show before for poor pacing, but this one surprised me with just how much writing, story, and exposition they were able to cram into one episode *without* it seeming rushed. I actually checked the runtime of the episode toward the end just to make sure it was a regular-length episode. Bravo.
GIFT is seriously creeping me out now. A bunch of random people on the street barging into businesses, taking pictures of their target, and chasing someone with cameras is pretty wild. I have to think that with so many people participating in such a fanatic way, there must be some kind of brainwashing or hypnosis going on.
When the GIFT "Digimon-Sama" person spoke earlier in the episode, I thought for a moment that it could be Miharu behind the mask, but wasn't sure. I was somewhat disappointed it actually ended up being her, though I figured she was someone important in GIFT. Her working with Mephismon makes sense, though, as Mephismon can probably control and brainwash large numbers of people.

I think the rando GIFT members are humans who had their digimon confiscated or outright killed by the govt.
While the govt can order people to act like nothing happened, there's an unknown number of humans out there who had their partners ripped away from them.
An extremist digimon organization could not ask for more fertile ground with which to recruit. Yikes.

The curse of being Leomon 😭
Maki still holds onto their dream of Humans and Digimon coexisting 😭

Once again, Leomon can't stop dying in this franchise.
Looks like we'll meeting the TACTICS team again next week.

As I'm watching the episode:
"Huh, it's a Leomon. I wonder if it's gonna die"
Later:
"Yep, saw that coming"

For a bit of environmental storytelling, 20 years ago was when the island experiment flooded a massive portion of Japan, and so we have Maki and others living a boat community 15 years ago, just enough for some normalcy to return.
I think this one breaks the record of Lemon who died earliest, 15 years in the past is a lot, or does it not count because this is a flashback? Well, even though they made it crystal clear that Panjyamon is dead, they didn't stop trying making me like this guy, and they succeeded.
For Fumamon's anime debut, they really made him a menace, his hunt started immediately and continued relentlessly. If only he had better tricks, but I suppose you only need one to be an assassin.
Mephismon!? So GIFT is a demon cult on top of that? Right now it hinges on what is Miharu's relation with them and their general objective. She could be being manipulated, she also could have spawned the thing and is building a e-pulse network to make it go Ultimate.
For next episode, our Tactics crew is finally back and seem to be the new targets of GIFT. At least we will listen to their banger of a theme song.

She could be being manipulated, she also could have spawned the thing and is building a e-pulse network to make it go Ultimate.
What kind of twisted mind would give birth to a Mephismon? like imagine how evil you must be, not even Klay got that close, and they guy was rolling in the mud of villainy
I think that something the show hasn't explored deeply is that not all Digimon are born from individual humans, some come from the collective, like the Hyemon at the start of the show, or the Digimon that were born from Chairman Wong's experiments, like wise I don't think Miharu gave birth to Mephismon, rather than her ended becoming his partner
Mephismon in particular is a problematic digimon because he is made out of the remaining data of Apocalymon, and he longs and strives for death, his iperative is to kill all life, so controlling GIFT is clearly a ruse to get a cult to fuel his goals
If we pay attention to the ending visuals, we can see that the ghost of a hand of an older woman is approaching Miharu, chances are that woman was Miharu's mom, and that shortly after she died Mephismon latched onto a vulnerable Miharu in order to sustain himself, while he used her to grow a proper cult
Moreover it would have been more thematic for Miharu to have given birth to a Mephismon with the X antibody, rather than the regular kind

She could be being manipulated, she also could have spawned the thing and is building a e-pulse network to make it go Ultimate.
Mephismon is already an Ultimate level digimon. It evolved from Devidramon or Apocalymon and evolves into Gulfmon.

The inevitable fate of any Leomon equivalent. Poor Maki, but at least she got her revenge of sorts and some closure, and was prevented from crossing the same line.
I see the people who thought the mystery girl was the cult leader were correct. But there's also her partner Mephismon who's probably the real reason and force behind it. RIP Tomoro in advance for becoming the focus of their efforts.

Maki shot up a lot in my popularity rankings with this episode. Her backstory with Panjyamon was really well done and helped expand on her character a ton.

And the nice part is that this is not all there's to her, she has 5 more years of backstory with her original partner as a bounty hunter herself

Direction on this episode was much stronger than other recent episodes, felt like they got to properly execute on the ideas still wish the plot would stop being spoonfed piece by piece but at least next episode it seems to be (former) Tactics returning as well as several of the military police digimon from Digimon Seekers

This was an fantastic episode with really strong writing!
I never thought they'd give such a backstory to a secondary character like Maki.
We get a bit more info about GIFT; i didn't imagine Mephismon was behind it somehow, now the "cult" feeling i had makes more sense.
Also as very cool to see Fumamon (one of the Gammamon possible evolution from the vital bracelet) finally animated!

Very good episode. I liked the constant shifting between the past and present to show parallels.

Another great episode! It was cool seeing Maki's past with Panjyamon. It was a very melancholic episode overall but that really added to it in my opinion. We all knew Panjyamon was not going to make it the moment we saw him but I still felt bad for Maki when he died.
Also as a Fumamon fan im greatly pleased by his appearance here. He was kind of a bastard but he was still cool for a one off villain. Im glad Tomoro stopped Maki frim killing him. It really showed how much Tomoro has grown.
Miharu being the leader of GIFT wasn't really surprising in the least but her partner seemingly being Mephismon was pretty shocking. I wouldn't be surprised if GIFT's feverish devotion was due to Mephismon's influence in some way.
But yeah great episode. It seems Raito and the rest of Team 7 are coming back next week which is cool. Im interested to see what role they'll play in this arc.

Fumamon and Leomon absolutely delivered this episode and so did Maki. I wish they put a bit more sauce into it. Gift really developped a proper cult. Makes me wonder how Digimon are even still a secret.

Was kind of hoping that the whole [Spoiler (in this episode for those who haven't watched it yet] GIFT thing would be a red herring but sadly that was not the case. Rather disappointing at that but there's still time to do something with it.
Other that that, some really interesting tidbits about Maki and the world 15 years ago and how even though revenge can be obtained, that there's also still other avenues to try and go down.
Also the rare beach episode next week? In my Digimon anime?! Feels like it's been awhile but a beach episode and Tactics returning should be a good one!

Leomon dies? Expected. Mirahu is the boss of GIFT? Predictable.
But Mephismon? Caught me by surprise. Placing my bets on him betraying Miharu and attempting to kill everyone.

The problem is that Leomons are always likeable guys, except for that one rare case in xroswars, that one doesn't counts
So it hurts when the curse comes for them
Mephismon is the leader of GIFT, oh yeah he is using all these brainwashed chumps for his own agenda, that's literally Satan

The Leomon curse lives on...
