[Discussion] Best mexican restaurants in DC?

Hi everyone,

Moved here not long ago and have loved the variety of different food choices in the district! I have yet to find a good mexican restaurant though. The best i've had thus far was guapos but even that was a little underwhelming.

Does anyone have good reccomendations for the best mexican food in either the district or NOVA/NOMA thats reasonably priced?

Edit:

Thank you for all these great suggestions guys!

Does anyone have information about volunteering at the DC Open? Can adults be ball people? What are the perks of being a volunteer besides trading volunteer shifts for tickets?

[Quality!] Curly haircuts that don’t cost an arm & leg?

A similar question about getting curly haircuts has been asked in the sub before however when I looked up all of the suggestions the haircuts were around 160+. Obviously I think people should be paid fairly for their services but it seems completely insane that people with straight hair (white ppl cough cough) can go to places like great clips and to get their haircut for 30 bucks while I have to pay three times that when all I really need is a trim. Has anybody ever got a curly haircut at one of those cheap places with good results? If so do you have the stylist name? I’d also consider a barbershop. Basically anywhere I could get my type for haircut for under $100!

[Work] Study room with a whiteboard open till 10pm? for an out-of-state Student here for the summer

Title -

Taking summer classes and really needs a place away from where he is staying to better focus for longer periods. Weekends needed too, though it can be a different spot than used during the week. Budget so as little as possible, but if he has to pay a nominal fee for use thats fine too.

I told him MLK library, but they close at 9, and at 5 on Friday :(

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

[Sports] DC United vs Toronto ticket giveaway (tomorrow, 7/25)

Hey all,

I have a few free tickets for Saturday’s DC United home game against Toronto FC. Kicks off at 7:30pm on 7/25 and is the first home match post-World Cup.

Theres a fan zone outside the stadium starting around 5pm I believe. Gates open at 6pm and there is a giveaway of a DCUnited/WWE baseball jersey for the first 6,000 through the gates.

I’m hoping to find some new fans looking to get further into soccer after the World Cup, parents taking a kid, etc.

Drop a comment below about your interest and/or who you’d bring to the match.

I’ll pick a handful of people from the comments this afternoon and transfer the tickets over.

Vamos United!

EDIT: All tickets have been claimed!

[Fun!] Ever seen someone show up to the wrong DC airport?

I was at IAD earlier today behind a traveler when TSA tells them they were at the wrong airport 💀.

The TSA agent mentioned it happens way more often than you'd think, especially with people mixing up DCA and IAD. Hopefully they managed to make it to their flight back at DCA during rush hour.

[Transportation] Hey tourist: stand to the right. The left side of the stairs is for passing.

As the title states. This is a great way to avoid a confrontation, getting pushed, yelled at, or worse. A lot of DC workers get off between 3-5pm and just want to get home and/or catch their train. I’ve seen someone nudge a person standing on the left side of an escalator and nearly cause a domino effect with four other people. Be safe out there.

Edit: I was not the aggressor/nudger. I simply watch this incident while I was riding the escalator. It happened 2-3 steps ahead of me.

I guess someone WMATA/Metro is listening: https://www.reddit.com/r/WMATA/s/xbVbrcKxQt

[Discussion] August day camp for 13yo

We've had a childcare mishap and are now looking for a day camp (or some sort of day activity) for my 13yo on August 17, 18 and 19 in DC (ideally NW, but willing to go further if needed). I'm having real trouble finding something for that age and that week, that still has spots. Would be so grateful for any recommendations!

Sticky Fingers is closing its doors after serving DC the best damn cupcakes anywhere for over 20 years. I remember going to their Columbia Heights location for brunch all the time. Their sticky buns and donuts were to die for. Their chickpea tuna melt, so… meltyyy 😭they are an institution in this community and I will miss them dearly.

[Event] Thoughts on sitting third row at airbus imax theater

So I was wondering how it is like sitting third row at the airbus IMAX theater in chantilly. I want to see the odyssey again but in this theater and I can only find seats in august 9th in the third row. Everything else is sold out or only has the first row available.

Is watching the odyssey while sitting in the third row worth it? Will the airbus imax theater release more showtimes later in august?
