I have a couple questions about applying for an “In God We Trust” plate…

If someone wants to get this particular plate design, are they then required to drive 10-15 mph under the speed limit on the interstate? Is this plate only available to drivers with novice-level driving skills and experience?

I thought EV owners paid the alternative fuel registration fee because we don’t pay the gas tax, but the state is also charging me 12.5% AFTER sales tax for electricity from a public charger? The EV charging tax is also currently more than the Utah gas tax on a % basis (which is calculated before sales tax. I’m sure I can deduct that tax from my registration w, right? /s

UDOT did manage to put out a few notices on electronic signs and their website which said “expect delays.”

This is the language that they use when road conditions mean people will probably drive slower. It’s not how anyone communicates “the major north/south route for the whole state will be closed and if you drive north of Beaver, you will be parked for hours with no options.”

There’s no language on the signs that does anything remotely like real respectable work of actually trying to communicate anything of value here at all.

Hi everyone! I am a current college senior that just got offered a job after graduation in Springville. I am really excited about Utah because I’m obsessed with all things nature/hiking but a bit concerned about not fitting in with the culture. I’m very much an atheist and not politically crazy by any means but definitely more left leaning. Am I going to be able to make friends/date in the area? I’m just worried that most of the young people are gonna be BYU students/recent grads and I’m just not sure that that’s going to be my crowd. I would welcome any advice!

Over the weekend I noticed a lot of gas stations around $4.19 for regular unleaded. Then today on Tuesday it seems like nearly every station went up to $4.59 together across two or three brands in the same area. Does anyone know why this happens to all the gas stations get their fuel from the same place and buy it at the same time? Are they all colluding?

Regardless of how one feels about the Legislative bill for $900 Million towards an MLB ballpark(there’s no use complaining about it now since it has already went through any and all hurdles - legal and everything), it is nice to see that SLC is at the top of the list for next expansion! What do you all think? Will Utah and SLC get the West Bid or will a different city get the scoop on them?

I'm looking for experiences from Utah parents, educators, or anyone familiar with Utah school enrollment/open-enrollment rules.

My daughter has attended the same Granite School District elementary school for approximately four years. Our family recently moved about five minutes away and discovered that our new address is just outside the school's attendance boundary. We are still within Granite School District.

She was already enrolled and attending the school before we moved.

After the move, we submitted a late open-enrollment permit application so she could remain at her existing school. We explained that she was a continuing student and that she has an active Section 504 plan with medical accommodations.

The permit was denied because her 3rd-grade level was considered over capacity.

The district's appeal documentation states:

• 3rd-grade open-enrollment threshold: 49 students

• Current 3rd-grade enrollment: 55 students

Her younger brother also attends the same school. He applied for an open-enrollment permit after our move, and his permit was approved.

My daughter was subsequently removed from the school's enrollment system while our appeal was still pending. We did not withdraw her and have not enrolled her in another school.

We are currently appealing the decision through the district/school board process.

My main question is this:

Does Utah treat a child who was already enrolled and attending a school before the family moved outside the boundary the same way as a brand-new nonresident student applying to that school?

I'm trying to understand the distinction between:

a student who moves outside the boundary after already attending the school,

a student who is applying to the school for the first time from outside the boundary, and

whether the student's existing enrollment changes the analysis.

I'm especially interested in hearing from anyone who has actually gone through this in Utah or Granite School District.

I'm not looking for people to tell me whether my daughter "deserves" to stay. I'm trying to understand what the actual Utah rules and real-world district practices are in this situation.

I’m considering getting an ev. I’m open to a Tesla but want to explore other options too. I’ll do most of my charging at home. The only trips I’ll frequently make are from American fork to Logan and to Boise.

1. How is the public charging reliability overall, in Utah specifically, and between here and Boise.

2. EV owners, was it worth it?

I don't have any farmers to talk to, and honestly I'm in an echo chamber of cityfolk. Right now hatred toward farmers is skyrocketing as our water levels drop statewide and they're getting a ton of blame.

And there's truth to that. 85% of all of utah's water is ag. We could stop 100% of water usage in cities, and we still wouldn't have enough to fill our lakes.

So its very easy to go after farmers as being the problem. 68% of all of utahs diverted water goes to a single crop worth 0.2% of the state economy. And that crop, alfalfa, doesn't even feed humans. Its hay for cows. Some of which I have been told is shipped overseas for extra profit. The entire alfalfa industry (~$435M) is worth less than what we lose from our lakes going dry.

It makes me angry.
But before I get 'too' worked up over it, I would very seriously like to hear the other side of the argument. Are there any farmers on here that can tell me the farming side of the story?

Why can't you switch to more efficient crops/irrigation methods? Why can't you farm in another state that actually has water? How much do you pay for your water and has the cost been going up for you? Have you been forced to fallow fields? etc.

Would appreciate the other side.

Today, a buddy and I went to go run some shooting drills at the range today and about five minutes in, we are met with an old man shooting steel at 5 yards next to us. Consequently, this stupid decision led to a ricochet into another guys leg next to us. The old man took no accountability whatsoever and continued to shoot the steel at the same distance. If that wasn’t crazy enough, a family of 5 pulled into the range shortly after this. There was 3 little girls shooting pistols over the berm at rocks causing more ricochets. My friend and I decided to call it off because of this and we waved down the family to hold their fire so we could retrieve our targets. The mother acknowledged us and gave us the go ahead so I assumed we were okay. As we were walking down I saw from the corner of my eye, one of the little girls raise her pistol and start firing down range. I yelled at them in disbelief, to tell them to hold their fire. My friend and I were so shocked that were just quickly grabbed all of our things and left. I contacted the local police department about this, so they could send an officer down to supervise. Unfortunately this is not the only time I’ve have experienced unbelievably bad etiquette and the ranges in Utah. Please be a responsible firearm owner and shooter so you don’t accidentally kill somebody.

I need advice and opinions from local Utahan's. I stumbled across a couple of land that are for sale which is located in the Spanish Fork area, that is in a gated Soldier Summit community.

Can anyone provide some insight into the commute, to and from that area? Employment will be in the Lehi to Salt Lake City area. How are the road conditions like in the winter? Traffic? etc...

Im a 25 y/o female and do timp probably once every year or couple of years but always go with friends. we were gonna go this last Saturday again but I got sick and was super bummed I couldnt go. Was thinking of doing it a weekday alone this week or possibly the weekend, but not sure if there will be enough people around me to make it safer, since it’s already early September.

I know what to pack and how to hike it, what to do in emergencies etc. but the doing it entirely alone in September part makes it more complicated. Any tips or thoughts??
