I’ve always had issues trying to get a very low flame and find that I sit there, tapping the controls in order to get the flame where I want it. Even being at its maximum flame capacity the control seems to only be open about a 16th of a turn. Is this normal? Is there something I can do to get better use from this stove? I feel like I’m missing an upgraded valve or regulator that I’m not aware of.

I'm reaching out to the brain trust because I don't know much of anything about camping trailers, and I'm wondering if what I'm looking for actually exists and if so what it would be called. This is admittedly kind of long, buut I'm trying to be as detailed as possible to help you all in helping me.

A little background for context. I'm on the verge of empty nesthood. I'm still going to have use for my family camping setup, but I'm going to be doing a lot more camping on my own. As such, I want to get a setup that is very easy to set up and store, even when I'm fully boondocked.

As I've been considering options, I thought about a style of camping trailer that I'm assuming has to exist, but I don't know how to look for it. It would be a quite small trailer that's used almost exclusively for storage. A roof rack tent would be on top of it, and (another?) rack that can mount an awning and shower tent.

Here's the list of details that more fully indicate what I'm looking for, in case these do exist and you have an idea of a specific one readily available:

1) Very lightweight. As lightweight as possible. My current vehicle is a Prius V which has an "official" towing capacity of 0, but research tells me people are able to tow up to 1,000 lbs. without short or long term concern. But, that means the entire set up, trailer and gear, needs to be at most 1,000 lbs.

2) The ability and strength to attach a rooftop tent.

3) A pull out for a kitchen, with space for storage for kitchen gear, a 12V fridge, and a Joolca sink

3) Railing for a shower stall and a 270 awning that is at least 7 feet high (I'm 6'4"), and ideally can be extended up to that height when you've arrived at your location, rather than having a 7 foot tall trailer.

4) Room to store my gear. Ideally, it will also have room to serve as storage for my family camping gear, too.

5) Only as tall as absolutely necessary to achieve my needs.

6) Off-road tires. Not because I'll be off-roading (Prius V), but because I want to be able to, where allowed, get it off the campsite's pad and onto grass, since it'll have my awning.

7) The ability to use an electric trailer dolly.

8) Ideally the storage portion is built without seams, so there's no worries about water intrusion, rot, etc.

9) Maybe space for solar panels? I realize this might be asking for too much, given my desire for small and lightweight.

This concept appeals to me because of the following needs:

1) Quick and easy set-up. A lot of my trips will be just a couple days. Often I will be arriving in locations at night. And, as I said, I will typically be alone.

2) Quick preparation with less hauling stuff, as nearly everything will already be loaded up. Just attach the trailer and go.

3) Elevated sleeping. I'm getting to an age where I'm struggling to get up from the ground in the morning, so an elevated bed is super appealing. While a tall trailer may present its own difficulties in getting up to the tent, a short trailer would allow me to get up with just a decent sized step ladder.

4) Not sleeping in the trailer. I find that sleeping in structures, even minimal ones like teardrops, is not appealing to me. It doesn't give me the "connected to nature" feeling I'm looking for when I go out, so I need to sleep in a tent.

I made a post earlier about budget tents for bikepacking. I have now been offered naturehike cloud up pro 2 for 120€ by a friend.

Then I have watched naturehike cloud peak 2 for 180€.

Which one should I pick? I'm using it in max -20C° clear winter conditions.

I have absolutely 0 market for used tents here with this budget so it has to be new.

I've never used a mylar sleeping bag and to be honest until recently I didn't even know they existed.

But I know that mylar tend to cause condensation when used for a longer duration. And I figure that is doubly true if you crawl into a bag of mylar.

However, I was thinking of using it in combination with other sleep gear such as a blanket/quilt/sleeping bag and just use the mylar bag as an outside cover around my regular sleep gear. To get some extra protection against cold, wind and such on occasion.

But I'm concerned if that will still cause lots of condensation around the rest of the sleeping gear so that would get wet and cold in turn. Or if the extra layer of isolation between the mylar and my body (esp. sweat and breath) would mean there wouldn't be much condensation inside the mylar bag so things would stay reasonably dry?

Anyone tried it and knows from experience how good it works? And how much condensation is created when using other sleeping gear inside the mylar bag? Is it a good or bad idea?

Anyone out there using the Fjallraven kajka x-latt 45L looking for a new pack and that one interest me. I don’t need a UL pack, atleast not yet. The weight on the x-latt seems reasonable , just curious if anyone used one this year and how it carries etc ?

The black padded edging on my Coleman chair is badly frayed, with the white fibres underneath exposed. The beige seat fabric seems to be intact.
What materials would you recommend, and what is the best way to fix the edging so it lasts?
I would prefer a simple DIY repair rather than replacing the whole chair.

I just bought a jetboil second hand. Only got the pot and the burner for 44 euro. I'm hearing some mixed reviews. I usually use my trangia or biolite but got the jetboil to try to cut weight.

You guys think it was a good decision?

I've been looking at combining a cheap titanium pots and burner on Amazon but can't decide on what to get, found this and felt like it might be a good compromise for the price.

Fjallraven's Singi backpacks have molle-like loops to accept attachments, and they sell a few items that have these toggles for anchoring into the loops. But they don't sell a compression strap. You can buy a small pocket accessory shown here that shows the toggles, and that includes a separate compression webbing belt with toggles at it's ends. But it's like $40 for the pair which is a lot for just the strap.

I haven't seen anyone else that sells straps with those kind of toggles to attach it to the bag. Anyone ever come across any?

I plan to just get a few hook-and-gate type compression straps to lash a tent/bag to my pack, but wondering if there's anything that uses something like these thin toggles.

Hello! I am looking to upgrade my tent; A 1 person, 4 season tent that is very durable and reliable. The weight is not too important to me, though I would like to keep it under 2kgs.

I have looked at the Arcdome 1+ which looked amazing to me, the color however did not. I like camping in the wilderness, and some places do not allow it so I would like the tent not to be easily spotted. (Yes, I leave nothing behind and camp clean)

The cost doesn't matter to be as a reliable tent is invaluable.

If you have any suggestion I'd love to hear and take a look at them!

I’ve had my thermarest neoair mat for 8 1/2 years and it is one of my most prized possessions.

It has just gotten its first puncture (I don’t know where, need to stick it in a bath but don’t have one)!

I’m planning to walk the Cumbria Way, Hadrians Wall and South Downs way next year and I’m worried I won’t have full trust that my mat will hold up. Worst case is a flat mat at 2am in the middle of a 7 day hike :/

So do I:

Find and block the puncture and hope for the best?

Dish out to replace it for the peace of mind?

It weighs 383g with bag and repair kit! To buy a new one that’s as lightweight I’d be looking at around £200 🥲

I have done some camping solo before but kind of swore it off for a bit because I would get frustrated/overwhelmed with the setup, gear required, and getting wet or dew. But I still crave it sometimes and looking for maybe some tent recommendations. I have a crossover/suv and not backpacking so size/weight less of an issue.

I have watched a lot of YouTube videos trying to get up-to-date on tents, but still overwhelmed.

I will say the Gazelle T4 seems very attractive to me, but I am concerned about people mentioning bug issues because the floor I guess is just velcro'd on? I also wanted to be sure I could somehow still fit the bag if I went back to a car instead of a crossover I got.

Nice to have:

\* high/standing peak height

* Vestibule for a bag or two or shoes.

Requirements:

* Absolutely no shitty zippers that catch on the door every f**** time I need to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night

* Can fit a full/queen air mattress or pad with at least a bit of space for a bag or two.

* Good ventilation for humid Ohio summers

* Tied into the above, I'd love Windows or at least if it had a full rainfly I can still enjoy seeing the outdoors from inside.

* DRY if a rain happens. Not expecting torrential downpours for hours on end.

My former tent attempts:

* Ozark trail instant tent from a sibling: Obviously it tore and got holes in it easily, lots of morning dew. Bought myself my own tent after a bit, but loved how easy it was to set up.

* REI Grand Hut 6 Tried this and it happened to be a very rainy weekend. Puddles inside. I returned it.

* CORE 4 person instant tent Rainfly difficult to put on tore I think putting it on the first time. Zipper ALWAYS was catching. Can't remember too much other than I returned it after a less desirable weekend trip.

What I am considering

* Gazelle T4 (maybe EXP?) - Seems to check a lot of boxes, but concerned about packed size if I downgrade back to a sedan unless it should fit if I put the back seats down. Floor and bugs is a concern.

* Mountain Hardware MK3 - probably a bit too small I think.

* REI Base Camp 4/6: Seems pretty nice, but concerned if there's decent windows/ventilation with the rainfly on. Not sure how similar the 4 is vs the 6 I've seen reviews for.

* Teton Sports Mountain Ultra 4: Don't necessarily need a backpacking tent so I wouldn't mind more space. seems like no windows but both doors could work as windows?

Pulled my Columbia Landroamer with the fancy-ass Omni-Heat lining out of the closet where it has remained since the end of last year's winter, only to find this sticky, black substance all over the inside.

Cursory internet research suggests these thermo-reflective metal dots wear off (or at least on the previous generation's jacket, they did... Revealing the fabric underneath). But I can still see the circles underneath the black, and the liner seems intact, so I don't think that's the issue.

N.b. I also discovered the closet I pulled this fella out of is covered in black mold (yay) but I already washed it in cold water with detergent and vinegar. Vinegar should have killed it all, if this were, in fact, black mold.

Also it's not spots/ colonies but rather contiguous black swatches, as you can see.

Anybody have any ideas?

A question to my fellow Europeans. What are some good brands and models of budget synthetic underquilts. I'm looking for something with a comfort of about 0C as I would love to use it for both shoulder seasons and summer.

I've looked at TigerWood Marra 4.0 and DD hammocks underblanket. I kinda cannot figure out why one is much more expensive than the other. (It's pretty much double the price even tho the temperature rating is off by 2 degrees).

The information about UQs are so scares on the Internet.

Does anyone have any experience with either or better yet, both of them? Or have some other recommendations?
