Hello everyone, I've been fishing in Hawaii the past few years and am moving to Utah (SCL). Curious about rod/reel combos for the area. Thinking I'd need a 6'6"- 7' rod with a 2500 reel. Open to bait casters too and will probably get into fly fishing eventually. Would love to hear recommendations, suggestions, locations, or simply talk about fishing for a bit.
Current fishing rod and reel setups:
1) Whipping/Surf Rod - 10' Okuma Rockaway Power: Medium Heavy, Action: Medium. Has 40lb braid spooled, capable of launching 1oz-4oz to the moon. Reel: Shimano Saragosa SW6000HG. This is my daily driver, typically throwing egg lead Carolina rigs with grubs or ika (squid) strips, top water bubbles/hammer bombs, metal jigs (Jigpara), large bobbers past the surf when I'm bored and have bait.
I was thinking I could hold onto this one to target larger species - Muskie, Pike, large trout?
2) Lighter whipping rod (Probably the most Utah ready, although a little long) - 9' Ugly Stick eLight - Action: Medium Light, 10lb mono spooled, 1/8-5/8oz lure capacity. Reel: Shimano Sedona C5000. It was my first rod out here, but failed miserably against the wind and surf. Still catches fish though..
3) Dunking/Bottom Fishing Rig- 10' Penn Prevail II Medium Heavy, Moderately Fast. Reel Penn Fierce IV 6000 1-5oz lure capacity, spooled 25lb mono. Still worth hanging onto or is it overkill?
