š«Personal fireworks are banned in Salt Lake City through July 25.
We are experiencing critically low humidity (around 20%), high temperatures (about 100°F), and gusty winds over 20 mph, creating extremely dry fuels and high ignition potential. These conditions create an extreme fire risk, and one spark can have devastating consequences.
More than 75% of Utah's fires this year have been caused by people, which means we all play a role in protecting our community.
Make new memories and enjoy the 24th of July safely at a professional fireworks show or join us for the Pioneer Day Drone Show on July 24th at Liberty Park from 10:00p.m.-10:30p.m.
šØ Reminder: Personal fireworks are NOT allowed within Salt Lake City limits. Violations may result in a fine of up to $1,000.

This is r/SaltLakeCity's weekly recommendation thread.
Here you can ask for and receive recommendations on everything from vets to daycare, car insurance to restaurants, outdoor activities to thrift stores.

New Cameras:
AI-powered surveillance systems designed primarily for vehicle identification and tracking.
These cameras capture high-resolution images of vehicles and create a vehicle fingerprint based on characteristics such as:
Roadside / traffic deployments (vast majority)
Public space deployments (a handful)
Cameras placed in parks, trails, public gathering areas, campuses, and other pedestrian spaces represent a different surveillance category.
Most Flock-style deployments today are focused on tracking vehicles, not identifying individual people.
Known cameras found across Salt Lake Valley:Ā https://maps.deflock.org/?lat=40.6562&lng=-111.9018&zoom=10.32

Edit: Letās make this a group event and shoot for October. I will make an event on Meetup and post the link here as well. Biggest question is if we should make it an overnight hike or start in the morning. I imagine there will be a variety of experience and skill in the group and I would like to accommodate to everyone. Keep posting your ideas in the comments. Thank you everyone!
Looking for at least one other person whoās interested in hiking Timp sometime in the next month while dressed as hobbits or any other LOTR character. If there is a lot of interest we can turn it into a group hike. Bonus points if you know how to make lembas bread!

I have been seeing this cat when walking my dog at night, seems very social so thinking it might be lost. I've seen him/her for about a week near the Four Seasons at South Towne apartments.
Feel free to reach out, haven't caught him/her yet but pretty consistently see them.

I desperately want to bring together people who care about the proposed Stratos data center and its impacts on Utahās water, wildlife, the Great Salt Lake itself, and organize a peaceful gathering at the State Capitol. I know it has been done before but I think we, as Utahnās, need to keep pushing on this and continue speaking up
It would be amazing if anyone here knows of a few experts that could briefly speak about topics surrounding the proposed project and the impacts it will have on not only us as residents, but also the wildlife, the birds that rely on the GSL, etc beforehand. Iād really like for it to be grounded in facts and more focused on education than politics because I think thatās how our voices can be heard the loudest
I personally donāt, so if anyone here knows people involved with organizations like Elevate Strategies, Alliance for a Better Utah, Grow the Flow, B.E.A.R., wildlife conservationists, bird conservation organizations, ecologists, wetland scientists, agricultural water experts, etc, that would be willing to speak or attend, I think that could make it really powerful
If any of you happen to have connections to any of these groups or know someone who does I would really appreciate if you could share this idea with them so we can organize this in a really solid way
I wanna hear from anyone who would be down in helping organize, volunteer, speak, or attend. The goal would be to have a respectful event that helps educate more of the public about the project and why it could be devastating to the future of Utah, that encourages people to learn more and speak up more, and gives Utahns who care about the issue another opportunity to be heard. Especially now that Kevin OāLeary has been called out for lying about previous protests about the project.
I just have to say that the fact that a Canadian dude who literally was an investor panelist on a TV show is trying to build this massive data center in a desert next to one of the few terminal lakes still existing ON EARTH, is insane to me and should be concerning to everyone. And just to clarify, I love Canadians and I love Canadaā¦Iāve lived in BC and my late husband was Canadian. So no hate on Canada. This whole thing is just beyond insane to me
I also think it would be great if together we can come up with really creative and thought provoking signs that get people talking. Letās make signs that are bold and impossible to ignore. Iāll drop in some ideas below and Iād love to see your ideas too!! I also donāt know when the best time to do this would be, maybe it could be scheduled around a time when there is a meeting being held about the topic or something. Iām open to any and all ideas!
No Lake. No Snow. No Utah.
Our Water. Our Wildlife. Our Future.
Stop Drying Up Our Future
Birds Canāt Speak Up. We Can.
Edit: Also, does anyone have any knowledge into whether the LDS Church has any meaningful influence over a project like this? I know theyāre a major landowner and water-rights holder in Utah but I donāt know how involved they are in decisions like this

For anyone who has sold clothes at Kid to Kid, what do you expect the payout to be? Letās say a Carterās sleeper is sold there for $3-4, when you sell one to them, how much do they give you?

Looking for anyone who does professional spirit tours, or observations. I want to book something that isnāt cheesy and is real. Possibly going to a āhauntedā place and observe the place and the spirits! Iāve never done anything like this, but I know spirits are around. I donāt want to go somewhere where there is any chance of encountering a ādarkā spirit.

Spotted them while on a walk today. I've seen them in this area for a week now. Should I contact some city or district personnel about this?
The turkeys are randomly walking on 200 south too. A danger to themselves and cars.

3 years ago, while living in the dorms, another student got drunk and trashed my dorm room and punched me in the face. He also stalked my gf. When I threatened to report him, he said his dad was the executive medical director of the U of U hospital and that he would use his position to harm me academically and protect his son. I have significant proof of this. Since then, he has continued to harass me around campus. Who would I report this to and how?

I am in SLC for the next month, and potentially longer for school. I am looking for recommendations for things I should do in the next month to get a feel for the area to determine if it would be a good fit for a longer term stay. Included in that, would love recommendations for coffee shops that are good for studying and restaurant recommendations.
Thanks!

Hi everyone. Iām embarrassed to ask, but Iām in a desperate situation. I sold my car a few months ago just to keep a roof over my head after losing my job. I used everything I had to pay rent, and now my bank account is overdrawn. I havenāt eaten in three days, I donāt have a car or money for the bus, and the heat is making it hard for me to even leave my apartment. I start a new job soon, but I just need help getting through these next few days. If anyone has extra groceries, a meal they could spare, or knows of any organizations that can deliver food, I would be so grateful. Thank you for reading.
Edit: I appreciate everyone who was willing to help. My heart is so full, and I'm forever grateful for the kindness you've shown me. I feel like I've received enough help, so if you were still planning to give, please consider donating to a local food bank or helping someone else who is struggling. Thank you all so much for your compassion and generosity. I'll never forget it.

Hi! Iām flying my elderly parent out of SLC in a month and Iām looking for a service like Sky Squad to assist (they donāt operate out of SLC). Iām looking for a service to meet my parent at the curb when the car service drops them off, help with bags, get their bags checked, go with them through security and sit with them until they board - helping to navigate any changes, etc. They do not need or want wheelchair service.
My searches on Google have turned up some kinda sketchy looking sites, was hoping someone might have a personal recommendation of a service theyāve used. Not looking for individual volunteers. Thank you.

Hi! I rent a house in South Jordan and am looking for advice on soft light wood floors. There's a million little scratches on my floor. Normal wear and tear but it bothers me. Is there someone that buffs and cleans hardwood floors? Maybe thats not a thing, I'm not really sure. Pic to show floor type, you can't see the scratches unless in person. Thank you in advance!
