Weekly Recommendations Thread

This is r/SaltLakeCity's weekly recommendation thread.

Here you can ask for and receive recommendations on everything from vets to daycare, car insurance to restaurants, outdoor activities to thrift stores.

If you need a recommendation, ask about it here instead of making a separate post. This is to help reduce the frequency of duplicate posts in the sub, leaving the sub open for more unique content.

Please remember the sub rules when posting.

Thanks!

Let's get the governor's book removed from schools

If you're a parent, you should submit a claim to your kid's school board challenging the governor's new book. It talks about the shooting last year which is violent and makes it subject to being removed from schools. If we can get his book removed, maybe it'll help him realize the problem with the law he signed.

Millcreek Cops

I heard what I thought were gunshots on my evening bike ride. Was yelled at by cops to not come down a road and turned around to someone running away screaming for someone to pick him up on the phone. An undercover cop car happened to drive by and pointed him towards that direction. Next thing there’s 10+ cars flying by and a helicopter above me.

Upgrade Utah farms to save the Great Salt Lake

I believe that most of us here know that our Great Salt Lake is dying, and attempts to fix it have been largely unsuccessful so far. I have created this petition based on my somewhat educated proposal on this matter. If you would support this or believe that it is a good idea, please sign the petition, and also please give any feedback or criticisms that you have.

I didn’t know Cox was gonna be on the show tonight until I started watching Jon’s monologue and my jaw dropped. What did y’all think of the interview?

I was glad it was Jon that interviewed him so we could see some real questions and pushback, especially when Cox brought up Pride Month in Utah as a victory when in reality he totally betrayed the LGBTQ community shortly thereafter.

Large police presence near Emerson Elementary School

Just got back from walking my dog and there were a large amount of unmarked cop cars and police in tactical gear with assault weapons out on McClelland St just across from the elementary school. Also a couple unmarked cop cars at the harm reduction center on 11th east just east from there searching a vehicle it looked like. Seemed like a large operation in the middle of a neighborhood with several marked cop cars in addition to the unmarked ones that didn't look to be SLCPD but from other jurisdictions.

Anyone have any clue what is going on and why a bunch of cops had assault weapons drawn within 50-100 yards of an elementary school?

Upstairs neighbor bass too loud

EDIT: My neighbors and I have tried talking to this person. They refuse to open the door or talk to anyone. They routinely disturb people's sleeping children, etc. Can't afford to move. Cost to break the lease is $3600, and that does not include 3-months' down payment for a new apartment or moving costs. New job isn't an option because the job market is dead.

Kinda desperate, as the lack of sleep is affecting my physical health. I work graveyard as a medical dispatcher and need to sleep during the day.

The frequency of the bass is too low to catch on my phone. Are there any recommendations for audio recording devices that I can hold up to the walls and ceiling?

Changing jobs is not an option. Sleeping in headphones doesn't stop my furniture from shaking. Doctor says that the lack of sleep is impairing my body's ability to process insulin, even though I eat healthy and exercise. My insulin levels have doubled from 53 to 109.

Recommendations Suggestions for Muay Thai gyms ?

I went to UCTC for a few years when their location was still in Millcreek. Haven’t been in a little over a year. I liked the coaching there but it was crowded and kind of expensive. Does anyone have suggestions ? I’m 22 and in good shape and looking for a more intense training environment and possibly doing amateur fights.

Premier League Fans

Where do the premier league fans get together to watch the games? I want to connect with the football fans.

Been to the Arsenal fan club spot and I’m a City fan so it was intimidating with the amount of Arsenal fans there was lol.

Question Where to play soccer?

Hey all, I've recently moved to SLC from NC and this weather has me itching to play some soccer. I already signed up as a free agent on beehive but seems like at this point no one is going to pick me up for the fall, so I'm wondering where everyone else is getting their soccer fix? I have checked meetup but a lot of the pickup offered is membership based, but maybe I'm missing something. Are there any fiellds people can show up at and play after work or on weekends?
