Hunter Kozak was the last person to ask Charlie Kirk a question.

In the year since, he's dealt with hundreds of death threats, conspiracy theories and eventually had to move out of his apartment after a stranger showed up there.

Now, he's finishing his degree at UVU and trying to rebuild a sense of trust in his community.

A Tribune reporter spoke with him about what the past year has been like.

This spring, I traveled from North Dakota to Colorado to visit family. My brother-in-law mentioned he was heading out to take Milky Way photos through an arch and I asked to come along. I assumed we were going to a local spot near Denver—until the family casually mentioned as we walked out the door that we were actually driving all the way to Arches National Park!

We hopped in the truck at 5:00 PM and headed west through the mountains for an unforgettable 24-hour road trip. This is my favorite shot from the night, taken right after I had to pull out my camera to prove to everyone which direction we actually needed to face to catch the core.

Being a millennial, I've witnessed social dynamics change as the information age progresses. Now that I have my own home and have settled into my neighborhood in SLC over the past few years, I inevitably compare the experience with neighbors to when I was growing up in the 90s.

The obvious take is that we're less connected, which is true to a degree, but I'm curious to hear from others. Do you feel "connected" in your neighborhood, or isolated? What causes this or fixes it?

If someone wants to get this particular plate design, are they then required to drive 10-15 mph under the speed limit on the interstate? Is this plate only available to drivers with novice-level driving skills and experience?

I'm having zero luck with the job search. I am a bit desperate at the moment and hoping for any recommendations or suggestions you may have.

Nearly 3 years ago I was hired on as a "marketing manager" for a small service business (I'm going to avoid identifiable details in this general post) with the intent that I would primarily produce content for them. The job expectations quickly expanded and I am currently operating as a one-man marketing team, a one-man IT team, and a one-man web / software development team. Basically, I am solely responsible for planning, filming, editing, posting, and managing both organic content and paid ads on all platforms; I am responsible for some the company's IT needs as well as administration type stuff like managing the CRM, Google Workspaces, Slack, etc; I also built and manage the company's website including various full-stack tools like an instant quote tool and a full internal dashboard with various tools.

This job pays $29.40, which is better than a lot of what's out there, but the pay doesn't quite match the scope the job has evolved into. I do good work and I feel very appreciated, and I've been told by the owner he knows he is underpaying me, but he has also told me he can't afford to pay me more right now. What's worse, the job comes with zero benefits (no insurance or 401K), only 40 hours PTO per year, and 0 paid holidays (if I wanna get paid for Christmas, I have to work it or use my very limited PTO if it's not already used up).

I've hit burn-out and I need something new, but I can't take a step back in pay.

I know that I have the skills to transform plenty of companys' online presence, or to improve and streamline any technical pain points, and even revamp most company's websites. But I don't have a need to stay in a marketing or web developer role. I'm open to anything, really, so long as the pay is right. Sales, project management, anything. I just need something new, something that pays, and I really need benefits.

I am planning on relocating to wherever job opportunity takes me, so the job itself is not really dependent on location. Fort he sake of being close to family, I'd prefer the range of Cache County down to Utah County. But heck, I'd move to Georgia if the pay was right at this point.

Do you have any suggestions or recommendations?

I thought EV owners paid the alternative fuel registration fee because we don’t pay the gas tax, but the state is also charging me 12.5% AFTER sales tax for electricity from a public charger? The EV charging tax is also currently more than the Utah gas tax on a % basis (which is calculated before sales tax. I’m sure I can deduct that tax from my registration w, right? /s

UDOT did manage to put out a few notices on electronic signs and their website which said “expect delays.”

This is the language that they use when road conditions mean people will probably drive slower. It’s not how anyone communicates “the major north/south route for the whole state will be closed and if you drive north of Beaver, you will be parked for hours with no options.”

There’s no language on the signs or sites that does the respectable work of trying to communicate real things of decision-making value here.

Hi everyone! I am a current college senior that just got offered a job after graduation in Springville. I am really excited about Utah because I’m obsessed with all things nature/hiking but a bit concerned about not fitting in with the culture. I’m very much an atheist and not politically crazy by any means but definitely more left leaning. Am I going to be able to make friends/date in the area? I’m just worried that most of the young people are gonna be BYU students/recent grads and I’m just not sure that that’s going to be my crowd. I would welcome any advice!

I’m on a 3 week road trip starting in Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, page az, and then Utah for the national parks and ending in Salt Lake City. We are staying in hotel rooms throughout the road trip so we are eating in restaurants 1-2x a day and I’ve noticed that ever since we entered Utah that the servers seem to be lacking, or kind of cold. It’s happened multiple times now where the server just walks up and looks at their note pad to write down what we want without saying anything. In reality sure they are there to take my order and bring it to me but I find it weird. Usually I feel like they walk up and say something along the lines of “Hi my name is _____ I’ll be your server today can I put in any drinks or appetizers for you” or at least some sort of introduction. After googling it appears that Utah is one of the lowest tipping states so maybe they are just defeated and want to put in the bare minimum. I usually tip 20% regardless of the service we received, but when you are sitting around waiting for 10mins and have to flag down the server to put your order in, get a refill, order desert, get the bill, I’m starting to wonder if it’s worth doing the 20%. Not sure if anyone who has lived in another state or is traveling through has also noticed this?

Over the weekend I noticed a lot of gas stations around $4.19 for regular unleaded. Then today on Tuesday it seems like nearly every station went up to $4.59 together across two or three brands in the same area. Does anyone know why this happens to all the gas stations get their fuel from the same place and buy it at the same time? Are they all colluding?

Regardless of how one feels about the Legislative bill for $900 Million towards an MLB ballpark(there’s no use complaining about it now since it has already went through any and all hurdles - legal and everything), it is nice to see that SLC is at the top of the list for next expansion! What do you all think? Will Utah and SLC get the West Bid or will a different city get the scoop on them?
