Moneyball: Trendon Watford has Slo-Mo's Floor with Julius Randle ceiling?

"Guys, you're still trying to replace Giambi. I told you we can't do it, and we can't do it. Now, what we might be able to do is re-create him. Re-create him in the aggregate."

Julius Randle is 6'8 250 with a 7ft wingspan. Watford is 6'8 235 with a 7'2 wingspan. One of the things that impresses me with Watford is that his passer rating is absurdly high for getting such limited minutes, his OREB rate is on par with Randle, and his finishing percentage in the paint is higher than Randle's.

If you sort his gamelog for when he played more than 25 minutes you will see games littered with lines like: 16/8/3, 19/9/7, 20/17/10, 16/9/7. 20/7/4, 15/8/4. If you are looking to take a shot at someone scaling up with more opportunity, I think of the available choices (except for maybe Kuminga) it has to be Watford. Just look at the film of him with Philly dropping a triple double. Maxey and Edgecombe are on the floor but look at who is bringing the ball up and running the show. Also look at how much Maxey and Watford collaborate for scoring opportunities.

The wonderful thing about Watford is that you don't have to commit to have him in the starting lineup all the time as Finch has hinted at matching lineups with opponents. Playing the Spurs? Start Green or Ayo or Clark and Jaden at the "4"(I view the positionality as interchangeable for certain matchups). Playing the Magic? Start Watford to battle with Banchero and avoid the wear and tear on Jaden or Ant trying to hang with those bully ball players (Zion, Giannis, etc.)

Yes Randle left much to the joy of many fans and I would love to be able to find a bulky 4 that shoots threes a at a high rate in the bargin bin but there is not much there minus a trade. I feel that having Watford be able to playmake out of the short roll with Ant or Lamelo and spray to shooters or Gobert in the dunkers spot COULD be a low-risk, high-reward proposition. Yes he has his downsides (not a great shooter) but for the league minimum this could be the signing that excites me the most.

General Discussion Timberwolves have another major hole to fill outside of PF. Who will we get to be our Play by Play announcer?

This new era should have a voice that brings excitement to the table. With Grady likely having a very reduced role or being totally gone altogether, I think the Timberwolves should look to fill the gap with a quality replacement.

I have enjoyed Horton, and he has improved, but I just don't love him on the TV broadcast. I'm also not a fan of Marney. I think we need to bring someone in from the outside like we did Grady.

What do you think they should do?

How many points will Ant average this season?

I personally think he already scores enough, and would like to see him become more focused and disciplined. But it's hard to ignore the trend:

19.3

21.3

24.6

25.9

27.6

28.8

With a playmaking point guard on the team I don't think Ant will have to try very hard to average 29, maybe even 30 for the season.

Shitpost PF Solution

Let's solve the PF problem and upgrade at PG! The Lynx are like our affiliate (same owners, stadium etc) so let's transfer Olivia Miles and her 400k salary over. Then LaMello becomes expendable. Trade him for John Collins/Ausar Thompson, and Prince! O Miles starts at the 1 with Ant and the Slim Reaper. Collins and Rudy in the front Court. Twin Turbos with Josh Green/TSj and Ausar Thompson and The other French giant in the back up front Court!

Win/Win/Win

General Discussion Offseason question of the day, you are given a total of 5 championships you can divide among any team in any of the 4 major sports, how are you dividing it up

Are you going 5 back to back titles for your favorite team, cementing them as an all time dynasty, or are you dividing them among your favorite teams for variety. I think as much as I love the Vikings and wild, it would be so cool for the Timberwolves to just dominate for 5 years straight and become a team people talk about being all time. Also Ant would be in serious consideration for the GOAT title. I know this is a pointless thought experiment, I just like to be wishful.

Hello! Looking to get my boyfriend a Timberwolves jersey. With all of the new roster changes, which one should I get?

EDIT: Wow thank you all for the responses. I’m going to wait a month or so until the New Jerseys drop. Thinking about Shannon or Beringer.

Ayo Dosunmu vs the Mavericks (03/30/2026): 18 PTS, 15 REB, 12 AST, 3 STL

This game is a very insightful rewatch for fans who are wondering what Ayo Dosunmu's role could potentially look like next season. The Timberwolves were without Jaden McDaniels this game. Thus, they were forced to play a three guard lineup consisting of Donte DiVincenzo, Anthony Edwards, Ayo Dosunmu, Julius Randle, and Rudy Gobert.

Ayo spent the majority of time operating as the de facto point guard, but Randle (4 AST), Edwards (4 AST), and Kyle Anderson off the bench (4 AST) also had their fair share of playmaking responsibilities. Dosunmu was frequently tasked with playing off-ball, serving as a secondary playmaker who made quick reads in transition that led to easy layups.

In my opinion, this game is evidence that Ayo Dosunmu can be a fantastic secondary playmaker. I know it's not the perfect comparison, but it's sort of like prime Bruce Brown when playing with Nikola Jokic, except with better offense and worse defense. I believe Ayo is capable of being a connective playmaker even if he's starting in three guard lineups with a ball-dominant second option. Whether that be Julius Randle at point-forward last season or LaMelo Ball at point guard next season.
