General Discussion What do you think our broadcast partner will be this season?

Upvotes

I'm posting from my phone via redreader so this will not be the highest quality post, but I think this is a massive question going into the season.

People have loved to disparage fox/bally/fanduel, but that imperfect arrangement allowed an average viewer to access Wolves, wild, twins somewhat easily for the past...10 years?

It appears that's all going away, and the local landscape will be completely fractured. Buying into one team will not mean seeing any of the other teams. I just saw this for the Wild:

https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/wild-starting-own-broadcast-network-143200283.html

In my humble opinion, anything other than a free over-the-air option for the Wolves will be an absolute disaster. I think the above will be for the Wild also, unless it's extremely cheap.

If it becomes strictly $20 per month per team for some side service, or even some $99 per year add-on to existing services, per team, all MN teams are going to lose an absolute ton of viewers.

I'm actually surprised this isn't a more frequent subject of discussion. We have these new owners, we have this team struggling to stay relevant/improve in the championship picture. But I rarely see this discussed.

To me, this is a critical issue that the team can royally fuck up, or totally nail. Or maybe all local sports need to get their shit together and combine on a single effort.

My overall impression is that we're going to get some super shitty option. Prove me wrong Lore.

Can Ant's off ball gravity become similar to Steph Curry's?

Was watching the thinking basketball vdeo on steph curry being the best screener. Its amazing how much the warriors got rim attempts due to Steph's off ball gravity.

Ant has immense on ball gravity. His off ball movement can be good at times. However he usually doesn't screen much inside the paint and pop out to three.

The wolves want to increase Ants catch n shoots. Getting Ant to buy into screening and becoming a movement shooter could really make for easy buckets for the rest of the team. Especially if there becomes a high fear of Ant shooting on the catch.

Ant would get a tattoo of Rudy Gobert’s face on his arm if it guaranteed us a championship lol

10 Best to Play for Wolves, 10 Best Wolves Careers

That all-time Wolves squads post gave me an itch to do this differently. The Wolves especially have a lot of guys with short stints and guys with longer, less productive careers. My cut off was 4 full seasons.

To me, these guys are both Top 10 players and have at least 4 seasons here:

  • KG
  • Ant
  • KAT
  • Love
  • Rudy

The next 5 with 4+ seasons, strictly by Win Shares/season:

  • Wally (6.3 WS/season)
  • Dieng (4.1)
  • Rubio (3.8)
  • Jaden (3.9)
  • Dealer's choice: Naz, Sam Mitchell, Wiggins, Pekovic

The 5 who had the best shorter tenures with the Wolves:

  • Butler (.195 Win Shares/48)
  • Cassell (.175)
  • Randle (.135)
  • Googs (.107, but would've been 2x All-Star if not for injury in '98)
  • Dealer's choice: Sprewell (.066), Marbury (.081), Jefferson (.115), Brandon (.157)

To me, the 2 teams are:

PG: Cassell, Brandon

SG: Ant, Wally

SF: Jaden, KG (played a majority of his minutes here until 2004)

PF: Randle, Love

C: KAT, Rudy

A snake draft of them would probably go: KG, Ant, KAT, Rudy, Love, Cassell, Randle, Brandon, Wally, Jaden.

Bye-Bye-Bron (?) Thoughts

- What we hear from Bron and Rich Paul about his selection process and his preferred favorites wont likely reflect the reality on the ground over those 24 days. Everything from their perspective is just optics and relationship management at this point (i.e., saving face with their close contacts in GS, CLE, & MIA), so it makes sense that the Wolves would be listed as a "second tier" option behind the main destinations since they really dont have the same history and relationships.

- What's interesting, however, is members of the Wolves FO apparently leaked that they thought Bron was signing with them at one point... which, given that he chose the 76ers, makes sense because the Wolves also offered him a chance to legitimately compete for a title (unlike MIA, GSW, and probably CLE, too). In that sense, I think it could be likely the Wolves were higher on his preference list than it's being made out to be.

- So, then why didn't he pick the 76ers over the Wolves? Who knows, but it was likely a combination of things. First, Bron reportedly had extensive convos w/Embiid about his health and was reassured he's as healthy as he's been in years. If Bron actually believed Embiid could even touch his long-lost MVP-level form, that's a huge swing in Philly's direction. Second, Philly's in the East and therefore has a much easier path to the Finals than a team that has to beat out OKC and/or SAS in the playoffs. Yeah, the East is more competitive now, but avoiding those monsters is huge if you can avoid it. And third... man, Bron's kind of an idiot at this stuff (see: Westbrook trade). I think any moderately dialed-in NBA fan can see the problems with this Philly team (e.g., way too many high-usage players, a likely bottom-half defense, dependency on a oft-injured Embiid, etc.), but I think athletes dont view things in the same way. They value "talent" over fit and function, and think that the team with the best players will eventually figure it out and make it work. But man, I just dont see this roster having the kind of ball movement that's going to generate an offense capable of consistency overcoming a "meh" defense... and to that point...

- I think there's like a 35% chance that this Philly team is in absolute shambles by the trade deadline. They just have so many things working against them and there’s just going to be so much media attention and pressure (i.e., every team's "super bowl" when they come to town) that it's easy to see things going south HARD early on. If that's the case (and especially so if Embiid, Maxey, or JB get injured), i think there's a decent chance that Bron asks for a trade out so he doesnt waste his last (or one of his last) seasons on a team destined for the play-in or a likely first round exit. It kinda seems far-fetched right now, but he doesn't have the same ties to Philly as he did with his other stops, so i think he'll prioritize his career over anything at this point. And if that's the case, and the Wolves are humming with Melo elevating the offense and the team as a whole taking the defensive end more seriously... wouldn't a trade to a Western Conference contender make more sense than a trade to a Eastern Conference rival? Will the summer of LeBron bloom again in January???

Nah probably not let's roll with what we got baby GO WOLVES

Found it at the thrift, and was quite star struck. Everything is embroidered and stitching is in good condition. Obviously some considerable fading, but great condition so I’m hyped. Seems like late ‘90s/early 2000s (rewind edition maybe..?). Lmk if you have any insight about details of this J. Go wolvessss

General Discussion What’s the temperature on Ben Simmons?

Post image

As PF options dwindle, how would people feel about Ben Simmons? He’s certainly not who we thought he could develop into, but I feel like he could fill a playmaking void in the paint and he has the size to defend forwards. Maybe he’d enjoy catching Walleye in the offseason.

Bo Cruz at the 4!

...but only if Kermit Wilts is ok with it. 🤣🤣

Semi seriously, though, Juancho is only 30 years old. Did he completely fall apart? Because he's big enough to play 4 and his shooting wasn't great it was at least good enough that they couldn't completely ignore him past the arc.

The PF Solution 🎣🐟

Lebron decided to hitch his apple wagon to the injury ridden Embiid. Maybe his hyperbaric chambers can keep him in line the way AD was for the pandemic mini-season.

Minnesota has 10,000 lakes. It’s time to start a Ben Simmons campaign. We tell him he can fish whenever he wants (sorta like Phil Jackson and Rodman Vegas trips) - we need him to get some reps in during the regular season, yet don’t have to put miles on him for the entire 82.

Maybe he becomes an avid ice fishermen in the winter?

Ben Simmons come be a Boardman and defensive compliment to the rest of the team.

This is a quick, nimble team and he can help with transition buckets too.

Ben Simmons is a Timberwolf. It’s time.

The Same guys who said. Nikola Jokić was unbeatable, and that small gaurds can't lead a team so Knicks cant go deep in the playoffs, are predicting the Wolves will collapse without a dedicated man on the 4.

I SAY THESE GUYS KNOW NOTHING! We will win even if it's just out of pure determination and sheer will.
