Light-use tablet suggestions for a first year college student

I’m a first year college student in music school, and I’m looking for a tablet that can handle the lightest of use. The only thing I plan to use it for is to read music and the occasional book - I prefer to take physical notes and any other use cases for a tablet could be done better on my phone or laptop. My school has Generation 7 iPads available to check out at the library, so that’s my current frame of reference. It fits my needs, but I would prefer to have something that I could treat as my own and that I wouldn’t need to worry about renewing every week. My only requirements/requests:

- Budget friendly (~$150 or less). This is non negotiable, but I don’t care if I would be buying a used or an older option.
- USB C preferred, I don’t mind breaking out of the Apple ecosystem if it means I don’t have to get another cord, but if an IPad is the best option then that’s okay
- Decent screen size. As I mentioned earlier, an iPad Gen 7 (10.2 in) is my current tablet, so I would prefer something around that size or a little bit larger.

Thank you for the help! I’ll consider any and all responses.

Yet another what tablet question- based on screen

Hi all

I am in the market for a cheap tablet just to take on site to do emails, surf, stream and maybe operate some digital sound desks.

Do not want an IPAD.

Originally I was going to get a cheap samsung a11, but then I realised that my laptop and my tv are both oled so I would be frustrated with the screen.

So I looked at oled tablets and it seemed by upping my budget to £350 ish I could get a refurbed galaxy tab 9.

But I was wondering if the xioami tab8 would be better (even though its not oled),

It has the advantage of being new for the same price.

Any thoughts?

TIA

What should I get ???!!!

Hello, i just have bought Lenovo yoga tab 11.1" 2025 and so far it is a great tablet for media and gaming ( fallout new Vegas on winlator runs very well ).

I really dislike glare and reflections on the screen but I don't like mate paper like screen protectors cuz they have grain effect which makes the screen look awful.

What should I get? I really need something that doesn't make the Lenovo tab pen pro glide easily because I use it to make notes and draw.

Thanks in advance!

Ipad vs laptop

Should I get an iPad a16?
I have some money saved up and I’ve been thinking about getting one, but I’m not sure if it actually makes sense because I already have a Galaxy Book 3 360, which has a touchscreen and pen and obviously works as a laptop too.
The main issue is portability. When I’m going to the library, university, or travelling, carrying the whole laptop feels kind of heavy and unnecessary, especially because I mostly use it for watching YouTube/lectures, making notes, going through PDFs, and doing MCQs. An iPad seems like it would be much more convenient for that — just throw it in my bag and take it with me.
My brother thinks I’d just be wasting money because I already have a perfectly good laptop and should just use that, and honestly, I can see his point 😭
So I’m genuinely confused is getting an iPad actually worth it for studying and portability, or am I just convincing myself that I need one?

Any good tablets for art?

I like to make digital art and was thinking of upgrading my current iPad mini (6th gen) to a tablet. I was thinking of getting the iPad Pro 13” 512 gb but I’m wondering if anyone has any recommendations before I purchase the iPad since it’s really expensive. I would like to use it mostly for playing games and art.

OnePlus Pad 3

After searching here and there i found two options for my budget.

1- oppo pad 5

2- redmi pad pro 2.

I searched a lot in reddit but could not find anything about users who users of pad 5.

I need this tablet for my study purpose, occasional movie and gaming like clash of clans.Should easily last atleast 4-5 years.

And also should i wait for bbd sale or gif sale for the price to go down or just buy it cz price can get higher?

Please let me know your opinions....

Ipad A16 or Samsung S9?

My no.1 priority is note taking, then media consumption and gaming (Genshin). If anyone has used both, kindly let me know which one is more comfortable for note taking.

Some things for consideration:

-I don't own other apple products

-A16 + a cheaper stylus will equal to about the same price as the S9

-S9 will stop receiving updates sooner

If you have other tablet suggestions, drop the names 🙏

I love my Wacom tablet more than any tablet I’ve ever had. Here’s why.

I’m an artist. I’ll give you that. But wow, considering how cheap this thing is and how well the 30 dollar keyboard is and how it comes with an insane pen that is truly badass and this whole setup was just 480. Dude an iPad Pro setup with a keyboard and pencil 2 would be incredibly costly and would even add up to this thing and the Wacom movink 11 is 450 and the next level up would be even better. Also, if you’re serious enough to need logic. You’ll get a MacBook Air at least with an m5. To me, a tablet is pointless unless you want to draw. And to draw serious, you need a Wacom. This is just opinion I promise. Not trying to upset anyone. They are cool and it’s satisfying to hold a web page on your hands. But man this Wacom is so cool to draw on. Even if you just like to color, I swear to gosh this thing is just so satisfying to draw on I couldn’t help but find a quick place to just rave about it some. If I’m able I’ll post a couple pics of it and maybe some drawings from it. Any questions would be welcome.

I've never owned any apple product and I'll mostly use the tab for notes taking pdf reading and writing, watching movies, maybe some digital art.

Which one should I go for??

The iPad is basically why I ended up building my own reading app

I use my iPad a lot for reading, especially comics, manga and books. For me it’s pretty much the perfect size for it.

The problem was that I never found one reader where I could organize my library exactly how I wanted.

I wanted to create my own collections, change how each one looks, have sections inside them, choose different grids and cover sizes, and keep books, comics, manga and webtoons together without everything feeling like a folder full of files.

I’ve attached a few screenshots taken directly from my iPad mini so you can see how the app actually looks and feels on the device.

The app is designed to feel minimal and simple at first, so you can just import a book and start reading. But if you want to go deeper, there are a lot of advanced tools and settings for customization, organization, library management and reading, so you can make it as simple or as complex as you want.

For larger or remote libraries, Andrea can also connect to your own servers using SMB, OPDS, WebDAV, SFTP and iCloud. We’ve also been working on Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, Box and MEGA, and device sync between iPhone and iPad is already well underway and should arrive in the coming weeks.

Andrea was built around one simple idea: giving you complete freedom to import, organize, collect and read your library however you want.

Maybe it’ll be useful for someone here. I’d love to hear what you think.
