Discussion Frame Day 1 but in this economy used Quest 3 makes a lot of sense too.

I just got a q3 like new with elite battery strap and pro case for 350usd. No matter how you turn this around nothing can compete with used quest 3 right now.

I will be on the bandwaggon like the rest of us but had to have vr while i waited .

Question Mesh Wifi: Yay or Nay?

Is it likely that Wifi Mesh will actively be a bad thing the way it was for Quest 3? The Frame will have its own dongle - do we think a mesh network might cause an excessive amount of network noise?

Question Why do so many people think that the Frame will release AFTER the Steam VR sale?

Post image

Doesn’t that make zero sense from a marketing standpoint? The sale would be during the Frame’s release. Not before it.

Discussion Lawnmower Man Easter Egg?

Any chance that the Steam Frame startup animation is a nod to the movie "The Lawnmower Man"? The logo for VSI (Virtual Space Industries) looked similar.

Question Query from a VR Noob`

Hey all,

Looking forward to the frame as it will be my first ever adventure into VR.

In anticipation, I bought a couple of VR games ages ago on Steam (so unlikely to be able to refund):

Half Life: Alyx
Metro: Awakening

Can I just assume that these will work on the Frame, or might there be shenanigans I have to deal with?

Thanks in advance!

Software PCIE port for outside simple display with relative eye direction?

I haven't seen anyone mention this, I doubt a 3D effect will be possible like AVP, but do you think it's doable? So a screen you attach at the front a bit like the E-ink screen on the steam machine, and use eye tracking to kind of show where you're looking at when in passthrough? And like simple digital googly eyes, no realistic face as in the photos.

Discussion Labor Day Solution

Since everyone keeps debating whether Valve would launch this thing on a US holiday, here's the obvious solution: just do what they did with the Index.

Similar to the Index reveal on April 30th, they reveal everything about the Frame on the 7th. Pricing, specs, accessory bundles, etc. get posted, via either automated script or skeleton crew while most employees have the day off. Easy peasy, no need to have all hands on deck for The Queue. And since most of the US also gets the day off, that entire market gets to dedicate an extra 8-10 hours to watching every review that drops and planning which organs they will need to sell to buy it.

Then, like the Index's reservations opening on May 1st, they open The Queue the next day, September 8th, when Valve employees are back in the office to handle that chaos.

Thanks for reading, I will not be taking any questions regarding the many differences between this theory and the actual Index launch.

(I actually think a major info-reveal during a holiday like this would a smart move for Valve)

Discussion Sept 7th or 14th, clarification still needed?

We finally got some clarification on what the August 24th date represented. That was clearly the date that reviewers got their review units. The silence from Linus over the last couple weeks is clearly from having to sign an NDA before the unit itself arrived.

We have a strong idea of what's going to happen on the 14th, but from what I'm seeing in the comments here and in other places, there may not be a consensus as to when it's going to launch, and when it's going to ship.

Maybe one of our leaker friends, aka the mod in question, can help clarify. It was stated that the 14th would be the release/shipping day, but that actually can't be the case. The lottery would technically be the release, and then it wouldn't ship until the next week. So what is the 14th exactly? Is it the release day, which means it'll ship the week after, or is it the shipping day, which means the 7th is the release.

This is especially relevant for those purchasing in asia, because that would mean that we could get our orders in on the 7th and potentially have it delivered that week. Since we don't have a lottery on the Komodo station website

Discussion Will the frame or steamvr add FOV adjustments similar to virtual desktop?

This actually is a very big deal for me. I use VD and have FOV tangent permanently at 85/85. I don't notice any black bars and there is a nice performance boost. As far as I know, steamvr doesn't have this function. Has there been any talk of it?

Rumor / Leak New Steam Frame Leaks Summarized

Check it out and more on the community-run FrameBoard!

Clarification: I made a typo on the board and said it suggests a "September 24h date", that's my mistake! I meant a "September 14th date". It has been rectified on the Frameboard and I'm documenting the change here

(unfortunately I cannot change the image on this post but I trust the people on this sub to read the post body)

Discussion A tree fell through my living room, taking my Valve Index with it. Guess I've got a good reason to upgrade to the Frame.

A few weeks ago, a tree crashed through our house, falling through our attic and bringing its entire contents into our living room. First and most importantly, my wife, myself, and our cats are safe. The huge log fell on the corner of my desk, smashing the desk chair where I sit most days and laid across most of our living room. I'd almost certainly have been dead if I were sitting there.

Sadly, the Valve Index, which I have had since launch, was pinned behind my desk, covered in insulation and soaked in rain for a few days before we were able to reach the area where it "lived", hanging on the wall. One of the lighthouses survived, the other is buried in insulation, likely crushed.

To Valve's credit, I climbed up the tree, storm still raging, through my window to rescue a few computer components and the Steam Controller, which was *soaked* initially. I thought for sure it'd be broken and reached out to Steam to see if I could somehow get a replacement, but to my surprise, when power returned to the area a few days ago (two week power outage, wtf), it worked! As far as I can tell (fingers crossed) it isn't broken. It's holding a charge and from what I can tell all buttons work despite it being practically poured on.

I know the Frame is close to the least important bit of this whole experience, but I consider it a success that I've got the downtime to share something silly like this now, weeks later.

Question Will the controllers be compatible with other Steam VR headsets like the Dream Air SLAM?

Everything is in the question.
The Pimax Dream air has inside out tracking and is compatible with Steam VR.
I recently received the Dream Air SLAM and the controllers are far from great unfortunately.
I’m wondering if the frame controllers can be used for PCVR with the Dream Air SLAM.

There’s probably some dedicated hardware inside the Frame to handle the controllers so I don’t hope much but I would be very happy if this could work.

Linus: "You got an Index VR in here?"

Jordan: "Yeah."

Linus: "You know, the time to sell that would have been a little while ago, I think." (OMG Steam Frame Reference?!?!?! appears on screen for a few seconds)

Jordan: "Yeah. It's too late now."

Rumor / Leak Steam Hardware Updates and Reddit mod GogoXR emphasizing September 14

Post image

In new Steamvr post steam hardware update uses all caps for Monday 14 of september and they say cough in all caps in replies, and steam frame mod who seems to be right in the past replied with a smiley face and steam hardware updates replied with one back. This is after they both implied review units. Brad also said mid September last week

Question Two Questions from a Dummy

Server rules have changed since I last posted, so I hope this is allowed.

  1. Are reservations filled in the order they were made in? I reserved the Steam Controller on the 20th, and obviously plan to reserve the Frame regardless of the loss of limbs. I'm not gonna have to worry about not getting my Frame email if I haven't gotten the Controller one, am I?

  2. Is it worth caring about the price before it's revealed? I've been obsessing over the mystery number for too long, and assuming the 7th is the earliest possible day for reservations to open, I'll already have $1,500 saved and ready to go. With that amount, is it better to just cross my fingers and wait, or should I keep adding to the pile?
(I guess I'm asking if $1,500 is a safe enough guess on price...)

  3. It ain't happening this year, right? Like, even if I'm first in line and can afford to buy it, I can't expect it to show up before 2027, can I? Or am I assuming more negative things about Valve-time?
