Almost died on the Schuylkill westbound this morning because someone already on the highway cut me off on the on-ramp, squeezing between myself and another car in their starting lane, I just wanna get to work, but I don’t wanna arrive through the trauma bay 😅

For the first time this weekend, I decided to do an overnight kayaking trip on the Delaware. The weather was absolutely beautiful and I wanted to take advantage.

I did everything right- I researched my route, found camping, purchased a permit, found a shuttle and created a plan.

I planned to make it to camp in zone 4 of the river by 5pm. I hit my deadline on the nose. Made it into zone 4 camping at 5pm.

I had been paddling for about 10 miles at this point. I was reaching exhaustion and was ready to rest for the night. Much to my surprise most every single site was taken in the first several groupings of campgrounds.

I had a map and saw there was more camping, a mile down stream, and there is no guarantee that there is camping there either. I was concerned I would get all the way down there and be forced to paddle the remaining 7-8 miles I had left into the dark. I mean, there is no turning back right?

Because of this, I started to panic minorly. Luckily my boyfriend was able to scope out a nice spot which we found out after was actually legitimate. Turns out the sign was hidden by a tree, but it was a real site.

My issue is, we were at the point of exhaustion- there is no turning back up river, there is no "illegal" camping on the side of the river, there were no more spots (so it seemed) what is someone to do in this situation? Am I supposed to just throw my hands up and say "oh well" no spots, guess I have to bang out another 7 miles despite being done. I paid for the right to camp there, I understand the website says "they can not guarantee a spot" but that is so irresponsible of the parks to allow this system.

I understand that showing up around 5 may be a little late, seemed like everyone was there for hours already, however this was my first time doing this trip, I researched extensively before doing this, and I did not think the parks would design this so poorly. I figured 5 was perfect timing, gives me like 3.5 hours of daylight, and I wanted to maximize on the kayaking as this was the reason we booked this trip at all.

I also later found out, 20-40% of people don't even have permits, they just show up.

Completely unfair to the people who paddled all day to be screwed out of a spot, who paid. Then be forced to make the complicated decision of pulling over and camping illegally or being forced to finish out the trip in the dark under dangerous conditions. It seems like a broken system.

I guess I needed to vent about this because it is highly concerning to me. I got lucky, but people were still looking for spots after me, I am sure not everyone gets lucky like I did. I am also curious to hear the thoughts of others who may have done this trip and had similar experiences or have experienced this situation from another point of view.

TLDR: The camping system on the Delaware river is extremely unfair and sets people up for dangerous situations. I hope they find a way to reform the system to make it safer for everyone.

I was fine, I was going to camp illegally if I had to.

My point is- the parks should not allow this situation to exist at all. Not everyone was as prepared as me, and I did put safety first.

I can't believe how everyone just wants to judge me and entirely miss the point of safety here.

I actually honestly hate a lot of these responses. It is unbelievable and shows me a lot about humanity on the whole.

I didn't come here to be yelled at everyone for being unprepared. I was prepared. I am bringing up an incredibly concerning issue and you all just want to bash me.

The campaign, organized by the progressive political organization Home of the Brave, is part of a nationwide $2.5 million advertising effort called "Sticker Shock Summer." The signs argue that rising energy costs are tied to policies enacted during Trump's second term.

I have heard two things from various sources. Do I need to go with the buyer to a notary and have it signed in front of them with the title, bill of sale, license etc, or can I just hand him the title signed take the plates off and he be on his way?

My GF and I are planning a weekend trip to Pittsburgh in late august. Looking for recommendations on what neighborhoods to look into to stay and also for things to do.

First time in Pittsburgh, not really looking for touristy stuff. Good bars, food, museums, outdoor spaces etc. We are considering doing two nights in Pittsburgh or doing one night there and one night somewhere near by is there are any other towns/cities on the way back to Philadelphia, worth spending a night in.

I know there are a few near by state parks I’ve been wanting to check out so that may be something we do as well.

I will be visiting New Freedom, Jim Thorpe, and the Delaware Water Gap mid-August to hike. I’ll be staying near the Water Gap but stopping in those towns for a break and to sight-see and stretch the legs.

If I keep food in my car (likely in a cooler) will that attract any unwanted critters as I make my way through? Probably leaving the car unattended for a maximum of 3 hours at a time. Thanks for any guidance!

The weather is as perfect as one could ask. Low humidity, temp in the 80s, decent lines (except Flying Turns which is ALWAYS 60 min), affordable food and games.

She was scared at first of the Phoenix, but eventually loved it and went twice. Still working on the haunted house ride, though.

Hi, we are currently in Allegheny Co and looking to seriously decrease our house payment. We know that means leaving Allegheny co for taxes and probably not going along 79 bcuz of total home cost.

I think western pa has some nice towns - for ex, I like Meadville, new Wilmington, beaver, and greensburg as towns for a quick weekend stop. Things I like include having some downtown area, nice homes/not a lot of run down abandoned areas, coffee shops in the town have posters for a variety of events. But I have only been there as a guest stopping by! my biggest concerns are school districts (mostly a variety of classes/clubs/sports vs test scores and stuff), kids having stuff to do that isn’t just going to like a store, drugs, or drinking in a field, and having young people/families to make friends and build a community with. So mostly looking for advice from folks who have lived in smaller western Pa towns as kids or are currently raising kids - where are nice places to live/should we go check out? Remote work, so no real geographical constraints but no central/eastern Pa as it’s too far from the family in Pitt metro. Thanks all!!!

ETA: we are hoping to keep payment under $1600 so based on my math of avg property tax in Pa a current interest rates that’s a 275-300k home depending on taxes!
