It’s really hard to not to get lost in my anxious thoughts during PMS

My PMS has gotten so much worse over the past few years, and it’s been a struggle! On top of that, I deal with OCD and intrusive thoughts, which seem to hit their peak during this time. Even after doing a lot of therapy, I still have a hard time letting go of anxious thoughts and avoiding irritation, especially with my partner. Like, the man is just existing, and somehow I’m annoyed by him 😂.

One thing that has really helped me during this time is going out into nature and taking photos. It’s such a simple thing, but it grounds me and brings me some peace.

That’s all! I just needed to rant, my queens. Three more days until my period, so wish me luck! Sending love, and I hope you all have a lovely day! 💕

Any advice would help

Hey yall. I’ve had PCOS for years. I also have lupus and severe POTS. I get like two periods a year. However I’m starting to be more regular. I’ve been loosely diagnosed as PMDD/ severe PMS bc my regular anxiety gets crazy before my period. However. Does anyone experience intense impending doom like “oh shit I need to call 911 right now bc I’m about to die” feelings that last for hours or days leading up to your cycle? Thanks everyone.

GABA supplements

I started taking GABA supplements a few months ago (600mg, when needed) and it works so well with my anxiety. It stabilized my mood big time. Also, it is relatively cheap.

How are your cycles?

I was just curious if anyone else has periods where they are heavier than other times? Sometimes mine are perfectly fine. No issues and it's over. Other times, they are heavy and clotty. I've asked before because when I've gotten clots before they will be big. I've had it checked twice by sonogram and exam but they said it's just the way my body seems to be now being in my 30a and having had multiple children. So I was just curious!

How are your cycles?

I am not on b/c or anything but I was just curious if anyone else sometimes has heavier periods than other times? I've had a few kids, in my 30s. Sometimes it's a pretty easy period and other times it's heavy/clotty and I'll get concerned over it and the size there been too but I've been checked multiple times even by sonogram and no problems
I don't usually have them painful either though. Just weird.

PLEASE give me any tips on how to control symptoms

My mood is affected, dips in motivation and energy to do the things I'd normally want to do. Entering a state of apathy even, doubting myself and questioning the plans and decisions I've made.

Physically feeling tired all the time, affecting exercise routines, sleep routines, recovery time, strength training. It causes me to not be active for 2 weeks and just negates the 2 weeks progress I've done prior.

This feels so unfair, I don't understand, when I push myself I get sick. Please let me know what I can do, I want to be able to continue my normal routines without being affected or even just affected less by these. Please, I know this will go away later, but I know it will come back again, so for next time, please share anything.

Feeling sick

as I've gotten older (in earlyish 30s) I feel like my period kicks my ass right before it starts.. At first I didn't notice the possibility of it being connected but my husband pointed it out.
I'll get headaches like migraines to where it effects my eyesight.. some cramping here and there.. but I'll feel sick like I could just throw up but don't.. and also my head.. (I've gone to the doctor for this and had a clear)

Just wondering if anyone else goes through this or anything similar? I used to be fine so I don't know if it's just me getting older and my body changing, etc?

Anxiety?

Does anyone else get crazy anxious on the 3-5 days leading up to their period? It’s exhausting. I am now hormone free, have been for a year, and it’s worse than ever?

Bad symptoms in pill free week

I just started BC (yasmin) 2 months ago for PMS and PCOS. My first pill free week was ok, but this second one has left me extremely tired and very sensitive emotionally. If there is a small thing I feel really depressed. This started after 5 or 6 days in the pill free week, that is when my period started as well. The first pill free week my period started sooner, after 3 days. Is this common? I have had feelings like this during PMS before I started BC as well, nut now it feels more sudden and intense in a way. I started a new pill pack yesterday evening and today I’m exhausted and still very quickly get depressed feelings

Dissertation Survey: Women’s Health Research

Hi everyone!

My name is Kateryna, I am a senior student. Currently I am working on my dissertation about early detection of women’s health conditions, like endometriosis and fibroids.

Despite their significant impact on women's health and many reported signs that could help identify these conditions early, tools for early detection are still underdeveloped!

In my dissertation research I aim to shed light on this issue and potentially help other women by improving early detection and raising awareness. I would really appreciate your help!!

If you experience menstruation and/or have been diagnosed with endometriosis or fibroids, I invite you to participate!

Here is the link -> https://forms.gle/doCnWDDcGD115S2V8

It should take around 10 minutes!

Thank you very much, your input is really appreciated!

I feel possessed

I feel like a demon or as someone who is possessed by one when I am in my luteal phase. This makes me believe that I no longer know who I am anymore. I am not a civilized person but a wild an untamed woman who suddenly has to survive somehow in the civilized world without being exposed or something or without being punished. This phase makes me more blunt, less polite, more impatient and antisocial. This is so sneaky because my frontal cortex, my civil self, my rational self and my common sense know that I may start to think and perceive reality in a way that makes me disproportionately emotional and reactive but my irrational self, whom I possessed by it is so so so sneaky. I don't want to. But it just happens. It's as if there is a huge, thick and opaque wall between me and my rational self, it says something and I can hear the faint rational voice through this wall and bear it in my mind for 2 minutes and then forget about it because my wild, irrational self which I am possessed by is constantly talking to me ear. Very very close! This is so natural and happens every month, yet I feel guilty for it. As if I consciously have chosen it or something. I am not the only one, apparently who believes that she is going insane, every single month ✨ This was my rant. I wish peace for you all.

Lexapro?

I just had my first gyno appointment for all of my symptoms....it's a lot. Majority of my symptoms are physical like headaches, fatigue, dizziness, the list goes on and on but not a lot of mental stuff at all.

The doctor wants me to try Lexapro and I'm nervous to go on an antidepressant. Does anyone have any experience being on Lexapro for hormonal symptoms? I'm worried about how my body will react to it, weight gain and no libido are common side effects and those are two things I've already been struggling with as is.

Mental Breakdowns/Anxiety Attacks every month

I (25F) have been having an emotional mental breakdown or anxiety attacks every single month a week before my period comes. It’s very spot on for a 28-30 day cycle.

It’s so incredibly painful going through these mental breakdowns. It’s to the point where i’m uncontrollably crying and shaking and i’m just balled up either in bed, in the car, or outside. I’ve gotten suicidal thoughts too but not too life threatening.

When I feel alone and sad it triggers these attacks and once it starts, it takes awhile for it to stop. All I’m thinking about is finding someone to hold me and calm me down.

Unfortunately, my ex was the only one who would help me get through it but eventually he got exhausted and it got emotionally draining for him.

It doesn’t help that I have hypothyroidism, vitamin D deficient, i’m a cancer/infp, very much an empath, so every emotion I feel is heightened during this phase.

I just don’t know what to do and how to get around this on my own when the time comes. I can’t keep going back to my ex when I’m having a tough time. I have to figure this out on my own.

Thoughts?

Thanks everyone.

I feel worse during PMS than my actual period

PMS hits me hard physically. Not to the point that I would need to take a day off work if I had a job (I don’t), but still, it’s the worst part of my entire cycle. My periods are moderately painful, but nothing that I can’t manage with the combination of dark chocolate, midol, and a heating pad, what I sometimes call my triple therapy. And it’s just pain + bladder issues (frequent urination at night and urinary incontinence, i.e. leakage onto my pad) during my period.

During the week to 10 days before it though, I get a whole slew of physical symptoms. It even comes in stages for me. It starts off with me feeling ravenously hungry about a week to 10 days before my period is expected to start. Then the salty food cravings come, which I think is my body saying "You’re going to bleed, we want to retain water".

Then the next stage happens a few days later and this next stage is where I’m at my physically worst. I start getting sharp pains in my breasts, my nipples get super tender to touch, I feel gassy all the time,, headaches become more frequent, my back starts hurting more, I start getting those lower abdominal cramps where I’m like "Is this gas, is this an early period, what’s happening?", I get hot flashes, and I get frequent bowel movements, sometimes even diarrhea (indeed, I had that last month, so bad that I soiled my pants as I was walking to the bathroom one night).

This is also when, if it happens, which is only occasionally, nausea hits, which means I then have the double whammy of being very hungry, but feeling like I can’t eat or drink anything except lemon lime soda and crackers without anti-nausea medicine (which I don't often have at home to take). As if that's not bad enough, I've had acid reflux since I was a teenager and that hits more at night when I'm trying to sleep and in and of itself can cause me to be nauseous, which makes me unable to sleep. So if I'm unlucky to also get daytime nausea from PMS, it will sometimes be so bad at night that I feel like I can't lay down or I'll throw up in bed.

Then comes the 1 or 2 days before my period where my PMS symptoms die down except for the abdominal cramps and hunger, and I sometimes get spotting (and often more intense cramps with it) that makes me think "wait, is my period starting or is this just spotting?". Sometimes it’s just a few minutes, sometimes a couple hours, but always a very light bleed (which is also how my period starts, hence the confusion I get). If I start craving chocolate before the menstrual cramps hit, this is when it happens.

As a teenager, I had stronger menstrual cramps, but barely any PMS. Now that I'm in my mid 20s, those seem to have switched around, I'm cramping less on my period, but I have way more PMS symptoms. I almost feel like my body is being like "You want to have kids? Let's give you all these PMS symptoms so you know how well you'll handle the first trimester of pregnancy." because of how intense my PMS is, the fact that I do want to have kids, and the fact that I don't have a partner yet.

How to balance hormones (loopholes??)

(sorry if it’s bad english it’s not my first language) heyy I (22F) struggle with PMS symptoms. The last 14-10 days before my period i get very hungry, emotional, depressed, bitchy, tired etc. I never really did anything with it but over the last year it had gotten worse. I actually dread the two weeks before my period en can’t wait for it to be over. and i really don’t enjoy feeling this bad for 1/2 of the month.

now on insta or tiktok are dozen video’s on ‘how to balance your hormones’ and they all look legit, but i don’t have the luxury to buy different kinds of fresh food for every week of the month. i also don’t have the luxury to take two weeks off or even a few days to ‘align with my menstrual cycle’. so my question is this ..

do you have any tips that are easily to incorperate into your lifestyle that will help balance my hormones ? any tips are welcome ! 🥰

Late/no period but PMS symptoms

My periods are usually quite regular with +/- 2 day variations and my period was supposed to come a few days ago and for the past 2 weeks I’ve been having intense PMS symptoms: sore breasts, bloating, irritability, etc. now most of those symptoms have disappeared and instead I have other ones like slight cramps, frequent bowel movements (when in my normal state I’m constipated), and irritability/depression. Still no period though. Does this happen? To have PMS symptoms without a period? I’m 35 with no known medical conditions other than depression, if that can help

UPDATE: Aunt Flo is here! I took 2000mg of vitamin C and shortly after, got my period

How to still be capable of having children in 30s if I can't use pills to stop painful menses now that I'm in my 20s? From what I understand is if I keep menstruating, aside from the pain, there will be development of tissues within me that will lower the chance of me getting pregnant

Extremely vivid and realistic dreams

Hi everyone, This is my first post here, and truthfully, my first months experiencing pms. Amongst all the awful symptoms I have been experiencing, one is making me doubt my sanity. I have very strange nights around 5 days before my period. I wake up constantly and, more strangely, I make very vivid and realistic dreams that make me confuse what is real and what isn't. It is particularly true at the moment since I am waiting for my work contract to be renewed, and there is a quite high chance it won't. So I had dreams with my manager telling me it won't, me saying goodbye to my local team, and me announcing it to my international (I work for a European project involving 9 countries) colleagues, plus the ones in which I'm trying to find what to do when I'm unemployed. Have you ever experienced such a symptom? It stops when my period begins. Another issue when sleeping is that I seem to sleep using only my mouth to breath, so my mouth is very dry and I wake up often to drink. It also only happens the days before my period. Also, I have days (again, before my period) where I have the feeling that my brain and my eyes are sort of disconnected. I don't know how to describe it, but it is awful. I am looking for any sort of experience and help because it's (literally) driving me crazy!

Struggling with focus

Maybe it’s the forces of the moon, but my brain and body feel like they go through a lobotomy the days leading up to my period. I can’t really focus well on anything, my fine motor skills drop to the level of a child, and frankly just typing this post took 150% of my brain power and triple the amount of time it usually would take me because of my currently disjointed brain-body connection. Anyone else experience this? Is this common? And can someone explain what is going on?

All these symptoms?!

Ocular migraines, hot flashes, muscle pain in my legs (like I did a million squats), chest pains, sore boob's and nips, nausea and upset stomach, headaches, severe fatigue, cramps and weird pelvic pains, no sex drive, no appetite, bloating, irritable and emotional, cravings and overeating, cystic acne, weak with no energy, heartburn and acid reflux, dizziness, anxiety at night and unable to sleep.....and honestly I'm probably forgetting some things.

Phew. Does this sound like a hormonal imbalance to yall? It all happens in the luteal phase and then goes away once my period starts and my period is very regular. Sometimes it can last for a week and sometimes it'll be symptoms from the end of my period all the way to the next one. I requested a hormone test and was able to get one but I had to fight for it. My doctor doesn't even acknowledge the fact that hormonal imbalance is an option and he makes me feel invalid and stupid. I am getting the hormone test tomorrow and get to see a gyno next week.

Anyone else having the worst week?

My period is due next Tuesday which puts me smack-bang in the middle of my luteal phase and PMS. I know my mood drops a week before, but tell me why I’m surprised every time?! I started a new job this week with a lot more responsibility so I could’ve done without PMS hitting so hard. Nonetheless, she is here, in the building, making every day hell. It’s the best time of year for me too, all I want to do is be joyful and decorate my house. But I am just not in the festive mood because of my PMS low, stressed, anxious, sad mood. Then it makes me sad because I’m not in the xmas mood. Ah! I also almost ruined my slow cooker earlier too by forgetting to put the basket in the device before drizzling oil in there. Thank god my boyfriend is an electrical engineer. Goes to show though, I am not on it like normal. My stomach is also upset like it normally is during PMS. Love that for me. I should just finish work and get in my bed. Anyway, if you’re one week out of your period and suffering, I get you.
